Data vs Spock

no, not in combat, as data would clearly win.

its just that neither enterprise would have lasted long without these eggheads to come up with a genius idea and save the day.

so i ask: who was your favorite enterprise problem solver?

not that i agree that spock is better, i found this quite ammusing:

Top 100 reasons why spock is better than data.

99. Spock plays chess with his captain; Captain Picard wouldn't be caught
dead playing games with Data.

friendship lingua-code to an attacking enemy.

68. Spock would rather fry his skin off in a radiation chamber than let the
Enterprise be destroyed.

I can't even begin to describe how lame that list was. Not because I like Data more than Spock, but because 98% of them were just superficial differences.

Loved this one: Data's home world was destroyed by a giant snowflake; Spock's homeworld is a leading member of the Federation.

Data's still cooler.

Data is and Android endevering to become mor human while bringing out the best in the Enterprise's crew. I thought it a neat touch that Before (B4) in Nemesis replaced Data at the end. Personally, Data is a much more lovable, and better understood character who's informative overtalking is key to his success.

"I have encoded the bridge computer with a Fractal encryption code. It is unlikely the Borg will break it" Data - First Contact

"It appears to be a robotic arm." Data - Nemesis

"Oh shit!" Data - Generations

"Lock and load." Data - Insurrection

"Captain, I believe that would be illogical." Spok - Original Series

Spok is a rather redundant character whos most memorable lines end with illogical. Or fastinating while Data is trying to become human, Spok is trying to distance himself from his heritage. It is such in Star Trek VI where he goes to Vulkan with Docter (Bones) M'coy. Anyway if I had to choose, having watched both series's. Data is better. smile

however data's programming can be tampered with and is thus potentially deadly to his entire crew as we often have seen:

so while i think data is far superior to spock, imho spock would be the safer bet.

That was like one episode. And because Lore was involved.

I don't know what was going on in the end there in Insurrection, I think it is, but I vaguely remember his reason being valid.
