RETROSPECTION- Xavier vs. Xorn

THE SET-UP: In his search for his dreaded nemesis, Friste Tem, Xavier has fled from the Jedi Temple and come to Raxus Prime, seeking out information on the Dark Jedi's whereabouts. After finding out very little other than that the pirates had been here, he is suddenly ambushed by snipers! Xavier has killed all of his attackers except one- a Dark Jedi named Xorn Elias, who now challenges him.

HOW THIS WORKS: Xavier has fought before, but I will go through things as a reminder.

The duellists take turns to attack each other. The attacker and the defender each describes their attack or defense respectively. The winner of the round is decided by four things- the Lightsaber skill of the fighters, the style they are fighting with, how their moves play off of each other, and a small random factor known as the competency bonus. As I control Xorn, I will determine how he goes about his actions.

The winner of a round scores a single point, followed by the attacker and defender switching places. Only one move or countermove can be made per round (excluding taunting, do that as much as you please). If the round is a draw, the attacker wins.

The victor of the duel is the first person to make it to five points, but it must be a win by two clear points over your opponent. The amount of points you win by dictates the fate of the loser- a two point loss is a superficial wound, a three point loss is a lost limb, a four point loss is multiple lost limbs or a crippling injury, and a five point loss is an outright kill. If you lose the duel by survive, you can always escape without being re-engaged.

At the start of any round, either combatant may try to flee. In fleeing, the duel carries on as normal, but whomever makes it to two points first, winning by one clear point, determines the success of the endeavour. If the person running away wins, they escape. If not, they don't.

ANALYSIS: Xavier, a natural swordsman, and Xorn, an experienced fighter, normally would be evenly matched, even while penalized for their hazard suits. However, the ambush has done Xavier no favors; he is injured and not prepared for a lightsaber duel, fighting on a three-point impairment. This could very easily toss things in Xorn's direction, though Xavier may be able to fight back if he holds the high ground...

The arena, a trash pile! Covered with uneven ground and metal objects strewn at random across the area. It is on a slope, and currently Xavier has the high ground.

Xorn is taking the offensive, here...

Score:

Xavier- 0, Xorn- 0.

Xorn to attack, Xavier to defend.

Xorn picks his way through the garbage until you are within striking distance. He then performs a simple swipe towards your legs, striking upwards.

Xavier brings his saber overhead and downwards in a sweeping motion trying to throw his opponents blow to the side. Hoping that the force of the blow will cause the man to lose footing on the trash pile.

Your powerful blow is not as effective as you would have liked. One side of Xorn's lightsaber clashes against yours, but he swiftly reverses his swing. A feint! He brings around the other blade and swipes much the same way, and you must awkwardly give ground to avoid losing your footing (or your feet).

But this gives you a chance to regroup and retaliate as he is forced to follow.

Score:

Xavier- 0, Xorn- 1.

Xavier to attack, Xorn to defend.

Xavier gains a steady foothold seeing him charging up. Then brings sudden and precise thrust at the dark jedi.

Xorn intercepts the thrust as it comes at him. He is not taking any of your swordplay nonsense and smashes your attack aside with a vigorous twirl of his lightsaber, leaving you open for him to advance...

Score:

Xavier- 0, Xorn- 2.

Xorn to attack, Xavier to defend.

Xorn tries to maneuver himself onto equal footing with you, slashing towards your side as he bounds up the trash pile after your retreat...

Xavier reverses the blade in his hand brings out to intercept his slash with a powerful move. Xavier also allows the blade of the lightsaber to slash into the ground of trash hoping the heat with loosen the trash causing it to become unstable where is Xorn's foot is going so that he slides around. Maybe even catch some of the trash on fire.

The trash consists mostly of scrap metal. It will not ignite.

You try to smash Xorn back down, but he manages to catch your lightsaber with his own and slips to one side, bringing the other end of his lightstaff around to your side. You have to pull away to avoid having your ribcage slashed through.

You are now on even ground.

Score:

Xavier- 0, Xorn- 3.

Xavier to attack, Xorn to defend.

Things are looking grim already, Xavier...

Xavier brings an attack overhead bringing it down at the hilt blade area of Xorn's lightsaber.

But he will also do something a little foolish. He will grab Xorn by the arm and toss both him and Xavier off the Trash Pile to the ground below.

It is no use, Xavier; you are too slow, too weak! Xorn is coming at you from both sides, utilizing spinning blows with his double-edged lightsaber. You solidly block them, but you cannot keep this up for much longer as you drives you back, circling around the top of the trash heap...

Score:

Xavier- 0, Xorn- 4.

Xorn to attack, Xavier to defend.

Xorn shunts his lightsaber into yours and tries to twist your guard out of position...

Xavier pulls back! Being as injured as he is, there is no possible way he could win this fight... and so he lets his guard down, confusing Xorn as he suddenly turns to run.

Scores reset for the escape. As a reminder, it is the first two, victory by a clear point.

Score:

Xavier- 0, Xorn- 0.

Xavier to flee, Xorn to chase...

Xavier sees the futility of this fight. Neither one of them like the idea of running away but retreat is the best most logical option right now.

With a sudden push off with his foot Xavier attempt to push down on one of the metal plates riding it down the trash slope away from Xorn.

Summoning your reserves, you manage to dislodge a metal plate! Before Xorn can reach you, you've descended part of the way down the trash slope! The metal plate tosses you when it hits some other debris, but you are at least away from the attacker.

Score:

Xavier- 1, Xorn- 0.

Xorn draws his blasters in an effort to slow your descent, blasting at your footing as you try to make your way down.

For the sake of moving things on, we will bring this to a close.

Xorn's shooting takes out your footing and you crash into a pile of junk, puncturing your hazard suit. He moves in to resume the fight and finish you off...

...when a Jedi transport zips by overhead, firing a pair of blaster shots at the mound. An explosion rips through the junk, knocking Xorn off his feet. As you both recover yourselves, you realize that a pair of men have dropped in between the two of you- Master Cabas and Stathos, lightsabers ignited.

And so we return to the game thread...
