So I'm watchin' the New Animated TF's on Cartoon Network
It's actually pretty cool. It's a new generation of TF's and well Ultra Magnus is a rugged Autobot leader. Cool! Starscream is in it, and he sounds raspy, old school, not to mention he's still treacherous. I love it. Black Arachnia is also in it, too cool.
So far, the only old school G1 character are:
[SPOILER - highlight to read]: Megatron, Ratchet and Ultra Magnus.
Although Prime, Starscream and Bumblebee are in it, they seem to have no memory of G1 events, and well, they seem to be newer 'bots who are fairly young.
didn't like it that much, but it's more tolerable than armada, IMO. the new prime seems to be a little b!tch. he's got the moves but they showed the pussiest side of prime possible. he has no gun. al he has is an axe and a gappling hook. and why is he a construction worker?
megatron is twice the size of prime. strarscream was WAY old skool. he was probably the best robot on this new show. although i have to say that megatron was pretty menacing.
big changes in the story line. no canon whatsoever. telatron 1 landed on some lake in detroit instead of the volcano in G1. seems like reboot to a seemingly perfect cartoon icon. there are some cues from the movies, most notably megatron's voice.
go see it. it's very watchable, but unlikable if you seen and followed the old skool cartoons.
Yeah, Starscream was amazing. I'm watchin' this f*ckin' cartoon just to see if [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Ultra Magnus, the "real" Optimus Prime, or Nemesis Prime comes out.
the mouths look too human. and the retractable "battle masks" that the movie set precedent on looks cool, but the animated prime should always have that on, no questions asked. even prowl looked badass with his battle mask and looked girly without it.
any other prime pales in comparison to G1 prime. that dude was teh sh!te!!!111!!!
is it just me being disturbed by the fact that they are actually animated while talking in car mode? on the G1 toons, the lights got dimmer and brighter as they speak in car mode, not move altogether...
I'm watching it as we speak , I am highly impressed. The writers and directors know how to please the older fanabse. I've already counted three references to G1.
1. The intro 'history' video
2. The transformation noises
3. The extending airlock thing , exactly the same way the decepticons boarded the arc in G1
And while G1 is STILL king for me, overall, much better than I had initially suspected and better than the movie last year..
My opinion of the post-Pokemon design feel still is unchanged.
Bendy organic looking metal just doesnt work for me.
Yes Prime is an irritating wussy in this (The voice sounds like Casey Casem who did Cliffjumper's voice in G1 which is cool though) and why the Autobots arent armed with anything other than melee weapons is beyond me... (Maybe they are toy gimmicks)
Its cool that they have tried to make the central MacGuffin more Matrix like, but they STILL have to call it "Allspark(tm)"...
And the transforms largely were cool, but when they stared to go into slow mo 20 mins long Pokemon battle backing style transforms, then my mind pukes blood all over it's nice new trousers.
And I thought that the reawakening from stasis/monster things a load of old bollocks, but this arrival version was way more G1-ey than Bayformers.
I liked the character design a lot better than I thought I would.
The heads are all recognisable... Bumblebee looks like he was based on Classics Bumblebee (certainly in alt. mode) Starscream rocked.
Megatron came WAY better than Bay's "Xmas tree of GRRRRR!" as the cold, intelligent, calculating Megatron that we all knew before.
The humour was a big strength, I thought, with a well paced and funny warm eighties TFS feel to a lot of it and the human characters for once weren't too irritating for my tastes.
And the cyber-detroit thing was cool too.
Anyone else see Spike, Carly and Daniel....? That rocked.
So this is me admitting to being surprised by this and admitting also to having enjoyed it.

Look man. Beast Wars rocked, m'kay!
And it was like.. real violence. None of this wussy melee crap. The Decepticons were rocking real machine guns and rockets and stuff, and people were literally getting blown to pieces.
