Respect Terry Bogard

as orphaned boys, Terry and his brother Andy were adopted by the fighter Jeff Bogard. Jeff had seen the fighting spirit in both the youngster's eyes and not having children of his own nor successors, he decided to take the two in as his own sons and pass on his fighting skills to them. Jeff was an upstanding and gentle man who was working hard to suppress the despotic rule of the overlords of the city and this brought him under a lot of danger. The three were a happy family with Terry being very close to Jeff and looking up to him as the sole parental figure in his life, though some claim that between the two brothers, Andy was the one who was more attached to Jeff as Terry even as a child tended to keep to himself.

One day when he was 10 years old though, Geese Howard, the corrupt police commissioner of Southtown and the main baddie, decided to eliminate Jeff from the picture as repeated threats didn't stop the upstanding Jeff. There was also another reason why he wanted Jeff killed and that was the fact that Jeff was the only man who had enough skill to be the single threat to Geese in that town. On the fateful day that Jeff was to be murdered, the three started the seemingly ordinary day just like how they did all these years. Terry and Andy started playing around and Andy had knocked Terry's cap off. They started running around and Jeff picks up Terry's cap and dusts it off, knowing his son's fancy for that cap. All of a sudden he sees Geese comes along and fights Jeff. Geese was terribly strong and overwhelms Jeff pretty soon. Terry meanwhile comes back looking for his cap and happens to come by just in time to see Geese kill Jeff in front of his eyes with a devastating heart blow. Geese walks away as Terry watches him leave, hatred burning in him. A dying Jeff puts Terry's cap on his head and with a last smile dies quietly in Terry's arms.

Once Jeff's funeral was over Terry and brother Andy were flung on the dangerous streets of Southtown again. Tung Fu Rue, their father’s sensei tells them to spend the next 10 years of their lives training for vengeance and bring justice to Geese. Terry resorts to train himself in the streets of Southtown while Andy goes to Japan and learns Shiranui Ninja arts [how two 10 year olds made such decisions is beyond me…most probably Tung Fu Rue told them what to do with themselves judging from each brother’s natural ability].

However, there was something that happened to Terry in these ten years: what had started as revenge for his father's murder eventually became a powerful desire to fight strong fighters and test his own skill. As a true fighter, Terry surpassed the ultimately limited "vengeance" approach and began fighting for the sake of fighting. To pit his own skills against mightier foes and improve himself eventually became the number one priority for Terry.

10 years later the two brothers are ready to fight Geese Howard. However Geese is now the owner of South Town and has grown into a devastating warrior as well. In order to keep his fighting nature satisfied, Geese holds the first KoF tournament in KoF/FF timeline but not the first one in AoF/FF time line. Terry and Andy (who also brings a friend, Joe, along with him from Japan) enter the tournament. The two fight brilliantly and at once catch the attention of Geese.

Eventually both brothers face each other and Terry prevails. Terry goes off to face Billy Kane in what was supposed to be the final showdown and kicks his ass too. However, Terry is then called up to face Geese on the top floor of the Geese Tower where Geese anxiously awaits to crush him. Geese is a lot stronger and a lot more experienced than the young Terry. Right from the start Geese smacks Terry all over the place and continues pummeling him. Wounded and thrashed up, Terry keeps getting up from every move Geese does and eventually Geese gets worried as not even his moves are able to put the young Bogard down. They continue their fight and Geese notices that Terry is actually enjoying himself. Terry, as I mentioned before, didn't limit himself as a fighter by letting vengeance, anger and emotions control him: he only cared about the fight and learning from it. Terry had realized that what is important in a fight is not victory or defeat but rather the privilege of learning new things that one doesn't know--and that can only be done by a true fighter. Geese couldn't fathom how Terry was enjoying himself so much, how he seemed to live for the thrill of the fight and slowly Terry starts taking it to Geese.

According to the original Fatal Fury game, Terry and Geese were fighting on the top floor of Geese Tower and Terry eventually kicks him and sends him down to his presumed death. However once Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition came out, we were supposed to believe that they just fought in the top floor of Geese tower and Terry simply beat him...he didn't send him smashing through the window. Since wild ambition is the Fatal Fury retold this ending is now confirmed to be canon. Beating Geese fatally, Terry watches the defeated Geese for a little while in silence. The long nightmare was over. He picks up his cap and walks away leaving behind him the dead Geese. People are shocked at how Geese lost in a fatal match and how a young 20 year man had toppled the despotic ruler of South Town. On that night the Legend of the Hungry Wolf is born, the fighter who kept coming after his opponent no matter what happened, still bearing his fangs and standing his ground no matter what...that was the Hungry Wolf's legend. Terry becomes the new King of Fighters and had come a long way from a homeless boy with revenge in his heart, to a legend.

[note: this is according to the FF-KoF storyline. as the AoF-Ff storyline places Ryo as the FIRST winner of KoF tournaments.]

A year passes by. A German noble named Wolfgang Krauser then holds the KoF tournament to test Terry’s power. Terry is the first one to get the invitation. Once again Terry beats everybody else and meets Krauser in the final. Krauser is a massive German nobleman, almost god like with overwhelming power and a passion for leaving his opponents in a pool of their own blood. The two fight and again Krauser pummels Terry mercilessly. With a clear advantage of size and power, and also experience Krauser pummels Terry but once again Terry shows his ability to take a beating and actually makes the fight rather even with his greater speed and his durability. The two shared a common love for facing powerful opponents and soon enough, though Krauser had dominated in the beginning, Terry gains momentum and starts turning the table.

Eventually Krauser goes for his mightiest move, The Kaiser Wave, as Terry had pushed him far enough. It is not known whether Terry got hit by it or whether he dodged it. Nonetheless, much to Krauser's dismay the fight wasn't over and Terry still keeps coming after him. Eventually as Terry was starting to take it to Krauser, he resorts to using the Kaiser wave for the second time in the hopes of finishing Terry off. This time though Terry was ready and countered it with his power-geyser blast, knocking out Krauser. Krauser was finally defeated and Terry becomes an even bigger legend for winning the King of Fighters tournament two times and that too twice in a row.

[Note: Terry never lost to Krauser on ANY occasion. That is only in the Anime. Anyone who says that Terry lost is actually just trying to mix the anime with the canon story].

Another year passes by and it is the same winning tournaments routine for Terry. Then KoF 94 is announced with the 3-on-3-style combat and Terry again gets the first invitation. Terry was reluctant to enter for a reason that SNK hasn't given to date, however in the end Andy and Joe manage to convince him. Here he faces many old rivals who had entered in teams of three and (as rumor says) in the quarter finals Terry faces Ryo Sakazaki, his old rival from South Town. Again, after a tough battle Terry prevails and defeats the tiger of Kyokugen-ryu. Unsurprisingly, with his fighting caliber Terry and his team makes it to the semi's where he meets Kyo Kusanagi the strong youth who has caught everyone’s attention…even his own. Their teams collide and in the end Terry is left to face Kyo. They fight long and hard but eventually the fight is announced a draw. However in the end Terry's team loses (canon wise, Terry has only lost by time over. So Terry either lost by time out or his fight with Kyo was a draw as Terry was the only guy left in his team while Kyo still has team mate or mates remaining). Realizing that his team is defeated, Terry shows sports man spirit and congratulates the victorious Kyo’s team. Terry and Kyo become good friends later on and have been seen drinking together numerous times. The same shit happens to Terry in KoF ’95 as once again he loses without losing himself. Believe it or not it has been happening since KoF ’94.

One day he is in his usual street fights when he hears about the Scrolls of Immortality. Having a bad feeling about it, the Lone wolf goes out to find out about what the hell is going on and does some searching and your everyday detective work. It is here that he runs in to Blue Mary. Terry finds out the scrolls posses great power and the ability to rejuvenate (hence the name). He hears of two brothers who posses them and are up to no good. Terry and gang go looking for the scrolls but Ryuji Yamazaki, the famed underworld psychopath, shows up and thrashes them all up until he and Terry are remaining. Hon-Fu then shows up and bids Terry to go and stop the Jin twins. Finally he meets these two short chubby kids that started this whole evil scroll bullshit. Sheesh I think their names were something like Jin ChonShu, the younger gayer looking brother, and Jin ChonRei the elder dweeb-looking brother. The two twins were officially godlike fighters. They simultaneously attack Terry and Terry starts getting whacked around badly despite his efforts. Still not relenting, Terry notices that their powers are weakening slightly and with persistence he eventually KO's them both. Terry literally saves the world.

His joy over saving the world, however, is only short-lived though as he realizes that the reason of their powers diminishing was...some one. In the end when all had seemed to point towards a sure defeat for Terry and in a twist of fate, Geese had come and stolen the scrolls of immortality from their place, rendering the Jin twins weakened. Terry was shocked to see that the scrolls are in the possession of none other than Geese Howard--a man whom had disappeared. Terry tries to stop Geese but Geese escapes. Terry saves the world but realizes that things are only getting worse now that Geese has those scrolls.

KoF ’96 comes along and Terry is eager to get his hands on Geese. Yet this time his team fails to reach Geese and his team as the Fatal Fury team is eliminated. KoF96 comes to an end after the defeat of Geonitz at the hands of Kyo and Iori and later on the murder of Vice and Mature at Iori’s hands (riot Iori). After the tournament Terry goes on his usual vagabond ways and receives a mail from Andy regarding how everything is going with him, of Joe’s winning streak at the Kick boxing championships and of course Mai and his...whatever you call it.

As the time for the KoF97 tournament draws near by, Terry sends Kyo an invitation to South Town, California. Kyo, much to Terry’s delight, agrees to come (even Shingo comes with him) and even offers Terry a spot as his own team in KoF97 tournament since he wasn’t sure if Benimaru and Goro were entering. Terry, however, having his own teammates ready, couldn’t join Kyo (I would love to see any team beat a team of Kyo, Iori and Terry from the KoF roaster). Terry and Kyo then have another one of their usual friendly sparring sessions and once its over Terry, Andy, Kyo and Shingo (and after a tussle with Yashiro and Yamazaki) meet Blue Mary who tells them about how Geese is forcing people out of their houses via Billy Kane. Needless to say with the five of these going on and confronting Billy, he has no choice but to bail out and get the hell out of there. As Terry and gang wrack their heads over what the “Plural of Goose is up to” Terry and gang split up. Kyo goes on to Mexico as some sort of illness that has become common in South Town is also become prevalent in Mexico. Kyo goes there to the Sakazaki dojo to get the heads up from them over the situation regarding the illness. Once all the clues are considered it is discovered that one of Geese’s medical plants is up to no good (dah!). Kyo, Andy and Terry then go to that place and after fending the duo of Yashiro and Yamazaki. Once defeated they mention how Geese is being used for the “ultimate plan of Orochi”. Eventually Terry and gang face a powerful Geese who tells them that he is intrigued by the power of Orochi since KoF96 and is now using it. Terry and gang take on the duo of Geese and Billy. Geese is overwhelmingly strong but with joint efforts of Terry, Kyo, Andy and Shingo he is defeated. Shocked at his defeat, he is killed off by the REAL Geese. Basically the “Geese” that Terry and gang were fighting was “Shadow” [the palette swap guy in FFRB]. Geese tells them that he isn’t interested in second-rate powers that are achieved through medication and drugs. Before Terry can stop him, Geese and Billy escape via helicopter.

Finally one month later and KoF ’97 is here. Terry is delighted to see Mary there as he hasn’t seen her for some time. He then gets worried cuz she is in the team of Yamazaki and Billy Kane who are his sworn enemies. He finds out that Mary has joined up with those two to get to Geese and his whole underworld shenanigans and schemes. The tournament starts and yup Terry’s team loses yet again.

However in the semis when Iori was supposed to fight Kyo and his team, Iori Yagami and Leona Heidern go in Riot of Blood. All the fighters jump in to subdue the two rampaging lunatics. Terry gave a leading hand in subduing them. Later he even aided Kyo for as long as he could against the three heavenly dudes. Some say he was even around and helped Kyo and Iori against Orochi but because it was Iori and Kyo’s destiny to defeat Orochi, Orochi took Kyo, Iori and Kagura to a particular place for destined battle, leaving Terry behind. After the tournament Terry says farewell to his brother and friend, Joe, as he has to go to other places to fight. While going away he runs into Blue Mary who complains that he is going and that she is going to be lonely. He gives her his cap as a memory of himself and goes off.

Eventually Terry is back in South-town just in time to enter the Real Bout tournament. Terry enters cuz he finds out that Geese is the one organizing it and he hopes to get his hands on him and stop him. Needless to say, Terry defeats his opponents and faces Geese in the end in the same tower as many years ago—Geese Tower. Geese has gotten the power of the scrolls (and possibly the Orochi power) and has grown a lot stronger than before. The extent of Geese's power is so absolute and overwhelming that it was godlike ("Nightmare" Geese is actually the way Geese was when Terry fought him during their final fight). Geese beats Terry to pulp in a matter of seconds but Terry refuses to die. The badly uneven bout continues in Geese's favor and none of Terry's moves are helping at all as Geese is just too powerful and omnipotent, recovering from everything Terry was throwing at him and returning it ten fold.

However as the fight raged on, something inside of Terry snaps. With renewed vigor and an overwhelming "fatal fury" chorusing through him, Terry starts going all out...unleashing everything he has at Geese. Terry overwhelms Geese and as the end of this terrible bout draws near both Terry and Geese prepare to give it their all. Seeing an imminent clash of powers Terry performs his TRIPLE power-geyser. However, since Terry was going all out, he didn't actually realize that Geese, though was trying to do his raging storm, had already collapsed due to the beating he had gotten from Terry. The huge triple almighty blasts send Geese flying off the top floor of Geese Tower. Terry recovers and sees Geese about to fall to his death.

Showing perhaps the most amazing gesture of humanity, Terry catches Geese by the arm to save his life…the life of the same man who caused him so much pain and suffering. Being a pure breed of bad-asses though, Geese looks up at Terry with a smirk. With a “goodbye” he rips his hand out of Terry’s hand and falls down to his death...laughing (which was very cool by the way). This would be Geese's indirect revenge: make Terry live with the guilt of killing a human being (Terry was more of a pro-life person and so would remain guilty of killing another man)

After some time Terry gets a telegram from Geese's widow, Marie. She begs Terry to adopt the little Rock Howard, the son of Geese Howard, as she herself is to die soon. Being a man with a heart of gold Terry adopts Rock and decides that Rock shouldn’t follow the footsteps of his evil father and also as expiation for killing Geese as in his mind he still sinned by killing Geese. He pledges to raise Rock as a good man so as to save Rock and redeem him from his cursed bloodline. He teaches Rock the beauty of life and nourishes him with all the things that make a good person. He also teaches him fighting and Rock is always there to watch Terry fight. Growing up with the legendary Hungry Wolf himself, Rock emulates some of Terry’s moves and tries to be strong like Terry.

Sometime later Wolfgang Krauser holds the real bout tournament to get his hands on Terry. Terry enters and once again defeats everybody to face a very powerful and ferocious Krauser. Nonetheless Terry prevails again and defeats Krauser.

Two years pass by and KoF ’99 comes along. Terry is back to compete and joins forces with his brother, friend and future sister-in-law (and the biggest whore on the planet) Mai. The team loses though as this time to K’ and team are the winners. During the finals Terry and gang happened to be in the building that collapsed and Terry lead them out but stayed inside cuz he felt Kyo (who had been missing) is around as he could feel his presence. When all thought Terry was dead Terry simply was around kicking some ass on the South-town streets and returned later to the relief of his brother and friends.

Another year passes by and this time Terry is happy to have Mary on his side in the team. The two have become a pair. Yet again the same shit happens to him and his team loses in the quarterfinals without him losing ever (Terry really must have a lot of patience, folks). Later on these guys are in the doomed-to-destroy building again and again Terry is separated from his teammates as he saves Mary from falling rocks but unfortunately he himself gets hit. Again people think he is dead and Mary is heart broken, as she believes that she has lost the second love of her life too (first being Butch. No, Butch is not a dog. Butch is the name of her deceased boyfriend who was killed. My honest opinion is that some idiot in SNK mixed up the names of her boy friend and her dog, Anton!). Holding Terry’s cap as a memory, she continues her detective work and one day while going into a building to bust some thugs she finds them already beaten to pulp…and she knows that from the extent to which these thugs were bashed up to, it could only be one person who could have done it: Terry Bogard. She turns around and is delighted to see Terry smiling away at her. Relieved and happy to see her lover in front of her, she returns him his cap and the two go off.

Year 2001, and once again Terry makes the same team. Now even Rock is there to watch his idol fight. However Terry’s team loses again. In the end Terry assists K’, Kyo and Iori tear Ignitz a new *******. With the help of the likes of Ryo, Kim and his other friends, Terry assists the three flame wielders and with his much needed help, Ignitz is brought down HARD. After the tournament is over and news is spread that K’, Kyo and Iori had destroyed N.E.S.T.S, everyone is relieved and continue with their life. Terry and Mary who used to have trouble getting together cuz of her job and his life style finally come up with an amicable solution: Terry now works for the same people as Mary and is in fact her partner and Rock still lives with Terry.

2 years pass by but some how things are starting to go rough for Mary and Terry, as she is angry with Terry for a reason he doesn’t understand. Terry takes back to the streets and Mary continues with her job. Life is going hectic for the Hungry Wolf as he is beset by problems. With maturity of age he has also changed his whole look as no longer does he clad himself with the tell-tale red cap, red tennis shoes, red jacket and shredded jeans; but now has his hair cut to shoulder length, has given his cap to Rock, and wears a brown full sleeved jacket.

Then just when things couldn’t get any worse Terry feels the Orochi power resurface. The KoF ’03 tournament is announced. He goes to his old and loyal teammates, his brother Andy and friend Joe, but discovers that Andy won’t be able to make it, as his disciple is seriously ill. They join forces with a wrestler called Tizoc and enter the tournament. Terry believes that the tournament is linked with the Orochi power and his gut feeling is true. Again his team is defeated.

The king of fighters MI is then announced in South Town and needless to say Terry Bogard enters along with fellow South Town rival Ryo Sakazaki and even the KoF veterans like Kyo, Iori and K' amongst others. With it being a one on one tournament, Terry as expected shows amazing powers and manages to reach the semi finals, despite the stiff competition. In the semi finals he bests Soiree Meira who happened to be the twin brother of the tournaments new face and the other semi finalist, Alba Meira, who was the one who defeated Terry's old time rival Ryo also in the semi finals. alba would eventually be the winner of that tournament.

Being the ever cool and relaxed person Terry is, he goes on to live life with a smile and takes everything in stride believing that he and Mary will work things out; and that eventually Rock will get over his problem as well. However he is still worried about the Orochi power and hopes to be of any help he can be to prevent it from resurfacing again.

In the next year's tournament KoF XI, Terry enters but to his surprise neither Joe nor Andy can make it as Joe has the Maui Thai tournament going on and Andy has disappeared for a reason that only Terry knows (much to Mai's charging). Terry is happy though that he gets to lead Kim Kaphwan and Duck King in the tournament. His team loses of course. Much to Terry and the whole Fatal Fury gang's charging a drunk Kim is even more obnoxious than the regular "Justice preaching" Kim as drunk Kim just has the volume higher. Terry and the rest eventually make a run for it as Kim continues rambling on and on...and on.

MOTW.
Terry is now 35 years old and Rock is now a powerful 17 year old, uprooted kid. Mary and Terry have gone their own separate ways because things haven’t worked out for them despite their sincerest efforts. Rock has gained powers and has proven himself as an exceptionally skilled kid and Terry now calls him ‘The Young Wolf Cub’. He has mastered some of Terry’s moves but to Terry’s shock, he has also inherited moves from his evil father. The two still live together but a rivalry has started to shape between the two as Rock starts to view life contradictory to how Terry taught him and wishes to be stronger than Terry, along with the fact that Rock has to live with the bitter fact that Geese is his father and the man who orphaned him is the one who raised him as well, Terry Bogard. He has become more violent and more arrogant and continues to drift away from Terry...what nerve! Ungrateful, snot-nosed punk!

The King of Fighters Maximum Mayhem tournament is announced. The two enter. Terry tells Rock that if he beats Terry, he will be told about his lineage. Determined to win Rock battles furiously and lives up to his name of ‘Young Wolf Cub’: son of Geese Howard and student of Terry Bogard.

Meanwhile Terry also shows the world that age has nothing to do with fighting and that in fact legends only get better. He gets to the finals with much ease. In the semi-final round, Terry defeats his prodigy, Rock, and advances to meet Grant—a powerful fighter who employs dark-karate. Grant is like a demon (think Gouki/Akuma) and his power are beyond human limits and so is his speed and stamina (note the whole body shattering bullshit of Grant comes into play once he is defeated NOT during their fight). He thoroughly bashes Terry around but the will to survive and persistence are Terry's trademarks and after a long gory fight, Terry eventually defeats him. However, Terry is wounded (by Grant's horns apparently) and totally exhausted after such a hellish fight. Terry, unable to fight in his condition, can only be a spectator for the rest of the tournament as Rock advances in his place on default.

Rock goes on to face Kain, a powerful man who employs the same flame like ki that Rock and Geese used. Rock discovers why Kain has the same ki flames like him—it is because Kain is his uncle. Kain then tells him that he will let him know everything Rock wants to know if he beats him. Rock and Kain fight in a hard fought battle and in sheer desperation Rock unleashes a stronger version of his father’s deadliest SDM: the deadly rave. The move was so powerful that it makes a wreck out of Kain's mansion. Kain is impressed and asks Rock to join him as rulers of South-town and do what Geese did: crime. Rock shows that the goodness injected in him by Terry is superior to that of the evil and power-lust of his blood and declines Kain’s offer. However, Kain was expecting that reply and then tells him something that forces Rock to do his biddings: Rock’s mother is still alive.

A bruised and barely standing Terry comes along, as he is worried about Rock. He comes but is surprised to see a cold Rock telling him to leave him alone as he is going to make his own decision and that is that he is going with Kain and not Terry. Terry, being mature and wise with age now, understands that Rock’s life is only in Rock’s hands and not his…and that he had done his part…where it went from here onwards was up to Rock and Rock alone. Still being the parental figure that he was to Rock, Terry parts by telling Rock that he believes in him; fully sure that indeed Rock will do the right thing and not let him down.

Only time will tell what holds in store for the Hungry Wolf…and have you figured out yet that Terry Bogard owns you all for free?
"Hey! Come on, come on!"

O-KAY!!!

the only problem with KoF is that they need more black people. Street Fighter suffers from this as well.. though we (The black community) just count Sagat as black

Though some people is too obsessed with "racial representativity" and, for example, consider K' as black character while he's just tanned Caucasian. No offence or racism meant, sometimes things just get out of hand.

RT is short of Respect Thread.
