Green Lantern is heavily underestimated here at KMC Forums. The general consensus is:
"The ring can make pretty green things like baseball bats"
That's ONE aspect of the ring, granted. But not the entire sum of what it and the GL is capable of. Basically the entire sum of the ring is that it can do ANYTHING. And yet people cannot wrap their heads around this simple notion.
Thus I have created this thread. ABSOLUTELY no credit goes to me. Astro once again did all the work.
On the verge of death, Hal stops time (stretching a nanosecond into Eternity) and teleports or transports beings from all across the planet to decide someone worthy to carry on for him. He later decides that he in fact doesn?t want to die, and wills himself to life with the ring:
When the combined power of a race seeks to wreak vengeance upon the Guardians for their horrible fate, the entire Corps is hard pressed to even contain this Legion. Easily surviving a nuclear explosion and tracking GL?s across the void, along with killing multiple GL?s in it?s rampage and taking on an entire army of GL?s at once are on his resume.
When Legion feeds off the Oan energies inherent in the planet itself, the entire corps is insufficient to the task of containing it and removing it. Hal enters the power battery, feeds off it?s energies directly, and single handily defeats the threat.
The Guardians themselves were in awe of the feat, and had up until that point thought entering the battery impossible:
When Hal's girlfriend is taken by a group of alien-beings, Hal shrinks himself down to follow to the point that the atoms look massive comparatively speaking:
When Hal and Barry are trapped in a constrictor, Hal uses his ring first to scan for weak spots, then to give a close up of the molecular structure, than to rearrange that structure:
Having analyzed the constrictor earlier, Hal effortlessly recreates it to defeat evil doppelgangers of himself and Barry. This is especially impressive because Hal had to overcome the fact that his fighting edge was gone (all the evil, and therefore aggressiveness, was removed from his body):
When Sinestro creates the Empath-Star with his ring, a living star which can amplify the natural aptitudes of any who approach (Making fearless GL?s like Hal dangerously reckless and making slow and steady guys like Flash horribly slow to react..), Hal bombards the star packing down it's Atom?s to create a shell. Again GL turns as STAR into mere atoms: Also note that a ring CREATED a star.
Hal redirects radiations back to their source, high-density radiations that could apparently destroy all life on the planet earth and all potential life on said planet.:
Hal stops the Moon from colliding with the Earth. Note that Hal actually GAVE the Earth her moon. The moon was traveling at hundreds of the speed of light. Hal was at the beginning of Earth's creation:
When confronted by the former Wrath of God Eclipso, Hal creates a giant solar receptor to keep Eclipso's massive satellite from getting any power whatsoever, simultaneously draining the satellites power:
Hal overcomes both Anti-Matter and Yellow energy beams coming from all directions using his power and intelligence, a gauntlet that another GL proved incapable of surviving. With just seconds left of charge in his ring, he surrounds his fellow GL in an energy field and removes him from the danger, heedless of the consequences to himself:
Hal easily defeats a rock monster (created by Hector Hammond) and destroys a large asteroid, which was once home to his base of operations in space. He does so with no apparent strain:
Hal confronts, and then easily defeats and imprisons, Hector Hammond, Guy Gardner and Star Sapphire. Hector alone has, in the past, controlled vast legions of beings, including nearly every hero on earth. And the Guy Gardner of this era was considerably more vicious and less oafish than the one we are familiar with:
When a time displace Rookie Hal comes into contact with Zero-Hour Parallax, he is forced to face him in battle twice. In the first encounter he takes Zero Hour Parallax down with surprise attacks:
When the planet Ungara is threatened by a massive comet, Hal goes to move the planet out of the way of the comet. When he gets there, however, he is met by hostility and surprise attacked. Without enough time to move the planet safely, he uses the planet?s moon to play a game of cosmic pool:
Enraged and distraught by the destruction of his home town, Hal recreates the entirety of Coast City, complete with people and buildings and wildlife, ect:
When a strange, almost cancerous growth is found in the center of a living planet, Hal removes it and ejects it into space. The ?growth? is apparently large enough that it can be classified as a moon of the planet:
When Dr. Polaris rips a portal in the fabric of the universe itself into the heart of the universe and begins to feed off of the magnetic powers inherent in this strange new dimension, Hal takes on and matches the master magnetist, even as his power increases to the point that he can ?destroy planets?.
When his power increases to the point that he is untouchable, Hal uses his ring to pump him so full of power that he is ripped apart:
When Hal is teleported through time by people thousands of years in the future, he accidentally disintegrates a massive, alien, futuristic space fleet that the futuristic human world was incapable of defeating:
Hal, insane and dangerously unstable, decides that he needs to reclaim his title as Green Lantern. He takes the ring from Kyle, and proceeds to use the ring to take on the entire JLA and defeat them readily:
When a machine beings to move the continents of the world together to once more form pangea, a rookie Hal holds the continents of the Earth in their rightful places, saving countless lives (According to the men planning it, all human life on earth):
When the Shaggy Man, currently the General, attacks the League they are essentially impotent to stop him. The entire League is needed to even stalemate the monster.
Hal Jordan then enters the fray, and shrinks the Shaggy Man to the size of a pea (Take THAT, Hulk!):
Marty, the good side of Hal Jordan given life, defeats the entire Justice League using tactics the original Hal Jordan had created long ago, then teleports away:
Trapped in Sinestro?s body, Hal takes on the entire Justice League (Whose bodies are inhabited by various Super Villains). While this makes them less skilled, it also makes them more vicious and more all out:
When Superman and Hal find themselves traveling through a strange dimension, Hal shields them both from a 300 Megaton detonation, one which they arent even sure Superman himself could survive:
When Hal is on the verge between life and death, his ring brings together a group of candidates worthy to take on the mantel of his ring. Among them are Nightwing and Superman. The AI of the ring refers to them all as "Less wills", disputing the idea that Superman has a greater Will than Hal himself:
Heres a match up against the deadly, and pre-castrated, Dr. Light. Hal manages to not only easily stop Dr. Light?s attack and turn it against him, but also uses his intelligence to trick the master of light
Light had, on previous occasions, taken on the entire Justice League at once:
Hal?s ring surrounds Superman and the entire Justice League in a special Aura that protects them against the mental manipulations of the Shark (who makes Xavier look like a child). If it can do that to just any ole person, imagine the protection Hal himself has?? :
Hal tracks and follows a ship through Hyperspace, making a trip of 132 LIGHTYEARS in seconds. He brings the JLA in toe with him, and says that the ring can easily find it?s way back despite being in a cosmic wilderness:
When faced with against Paragon, a being with the combined powers of the Justice League (To a greater level and able to manipulate them all with a greater level of skill) Hal states that he?s stopped Superman in his tracks
And then gets promptly defeated by someone whose strength is greater than that of Superman and Wonder Woman COMBINED:
When Hal's body is taken over by Professor Zoom, the criminal casually holds the Secret Society of Supervillains, then creates a prison that is inescapable to any of them:
After himself being directly taken over by one of the Demons Three (Using a yellow smoke of some kind, circumventing his defenses) Hal takes control of his fellow Justice Leaguers and forces them to fight against their will:
Hal fights and stalemates the Shaggy Man for an hour, even after it had evolved past his attack (The Shaggy Man evolved to attacks so that the same one could never be used twice, which is why he couldn?t simply shrink him down again):
This one is a particularly fun one, I think. When Nekron the Fear Parasite, a being from a dimension that sees ?Courage? and ?Fear? as tangible essences, comes to Earth he faces off against the Justice League, causing within them immense fear (Including the likes of Superman and Barry Allen). They decide to disband the Justice League because of this fear, and only through the actions of Diana do they manage to pull together enough to face Nekron and ultimately defeat him.
However, BEFORE Diana and the rest of the league make their last stand against the Fear Parasite, Hal confronts him. His very presence causes immense pain in the Fear Parasite (He feeds off of fear, courage hurts him) and he very nearly defeats the beast before being felled from behind by a yellow attack
When a being known as the Anarchist finds a way to leech the yellow component of Hal?s emerald energies from his ring, he confronts the Justice League (Sans Hal) and does an incredible job of defeating them, using their very costumes against them and creating forcefields around his goons impenetrable to the Flash:
Superman brings Hal to the Fortress of Solitude to test the limits of his Emerald Energies and finds that his power defies quantification.
The real gold here, however, is Hal's reaction to Superman's discovery. A shrug of the shoulders and an easy smile, in the self assured manner of one who is at peace with himself:
Hal created a prison that was capable of holding Ultra-Man, the Crime Syndicate's version of Superman. Power Girl also proves incapable of shattering the construct, and it takes the combined power of Dr. Fate and Starman to do the job:
When Dr. Light creates a machine that separates the League's body parts into different Dimensions, Hal simply uses his ring to bring himself back together, and then does the same for his friends:
After fighting and losing to a group of GLs with superior versions of the Power Ring (NO weakness to yellow, in general more powerful) Hal simply heals himself and is back up to 100%:
Hal defeats a fellow Green Lantern who stole one of the experimental rings by creating an aura around him that makes her incapable of hurting him, then easily subduing her:
When confronted with a deadly and unstoppable plague on the planet Xanshi, Jon Stewart effortlessly creates a cure, using his ring to create some pretty wild chemical reactions:
When a Doomsday device, created by the Aspect of the Anti-Life being, converts a planet into Anti-Matter, shoots it into the sun and then causes the sun to go Nova John?s Auto-Protect feature saves both him and the Martian Manhunter, who he had just casually imprisoned (NOTE: This proves that Superman punching through John's shield in Sacrifice is absolute crap):
When a not-so-noteworthy GL confronts a rampaging Doomsday, he easily imprisons him and keeps him imprisoned until his conference with the Guardians takes his attention away from the cell:
When Kilowog is tortured by the death of his entire race, the rookie Arisia converts herself into pure mind energy and enters his mindscape, essentially showing a great degree of telepathy:
Arrikus Chummuk, upon just gaining the ring, creates an impenetrable field around a planet to stop a salvo of interplanetary missiles programmed to destroy the world:
When a massive Black Hole threatens to destroy an entire *Space Sector* (1/3600 of the universe), the GL of that sector dives in and seals the massive Black Hole. The effort leaves him bloodied and bruised, even near death, but he does it regardless:
When a group of explores come to this Green Lantern's home system and being to use their equipment to increase the heat of the sun, the oceans of their world begin to boil. When he confronts them, he learns that they are in fact trying to save their people, and have found a habitable planet in said system, save for the fact that the sun is not warm enough. As a result, the Green Lantern moves his planet far enough away as to negate the temperature difference:
When a Green Lantern comes to a planet whose Magnetic field is wreaking havoc on the world, and threatens the very destruction of the world, she changes the alignment of the poles themselves! (Take THAT Magneto):
Hal Jordan destroys a contingent of Anti-Green Lanterns, Qwards answer to the GL Corps. Their powers are identical to that of the average GL, and any contact made with their beam absorbs ones life force:
Driq of Criq's not only manages to keep himself in a sort of living death state, effectively making him invincible as long as his ring is charged, but also has enough power to condense the combined Mad Sector and the Conceptual Being Flodo Span from a GALAXY-sized object to a small sphere:
That's sweet. Although so much of it falls into the realm of ridiculous. I like the Green Lanterns, but not when they can do shit like that. The current power levels they're written as is my favorite.
Too bad Hal will still lose to Surfer... Since Hal is only human, and Surfer has been proven fighting at speeds faster than light, and Hal who is only human can't think much faster than the speed of sound... Though they might be able to take guys like Quasar since he is human as well. Though Photon will probably mess a GL up pretty good since she can absorb and manipulate OA energy as well as the DC version of Thor which whooped on Hal knocking him out with the Mjolnir, which Batman and Robin saved the day in that one.
Good work Draco.
Silver Surfer > GL
GL > Quasar
Photon > GL (canon according to Whirly and the gang)
Wonder Man > GL (canon according to Whirly and the gang)
GL > Superman
GL > Iron Man
Genis Vell > GL
Batman and Robin > GL
Now seriously, I gotta give props to the GL's who can do all those things. Hal, and probably not many others since the rest of the 3600 GL's are rubbish compared to the top 5.
Surfer flying in circles at lightspeeds and then shooting a blast in the middle doesnt qualify as fighting at lightspeeds. Surfer loosing energy and needing a nap after only 5 min of using his power is horrible displays of endurance.
GL > Surfer
GL > Quasar
Surfer ? Quasar
GL > Iron Man
GL > Wonder Man(Superman > Wonderman according to Whirly and gang.)
GL > Superman
GL > Photon(Kyle fighting her was CIS the second time. Especially after knowing that she was trying it the first time.)
