Tony built a couple of sentinels that took down every hero from Hyperion to Doctor Strange and even omega mutants who assembled (and it took them all on together). Best part is the beating was so bad Magneto had to recruit the deadliest villains to bust the sentinels and grab a winning chance.
I believe this is more or less the official standard list of Marvels smartest characters:
1. Reed Richards
2. Doctor Doom
3. Hank Pym
4. Bruce Banner
5. Tony Stark
6. Hank McCoy (Beast)
7. Amadeus Cho
8. T’Challa (Black Panther)
We know that Reed Richards and Doctor Doom are on top and are sometimes even interchangeable. Amadeus Cho also stated that he is the 7th smartest person, while T'Challa stated that he was the 8th smartest person. Bruce and Tony are probably also interchangeable, but I think Tony once stated that Bruce is smarter than him? I might be wrong though. Not sure. I still feel fairly confident about this list.
And of course all of this is a standard list, which leaves out some very specific ideas. Like the one weird 5 year old Red Dinosaur Girl being the smartest person on Earth or something like that. Or Valeria Richards being smarter than her dad. I smell a little bit of "wahmen power" in there, so I'm not taking it all too seriously.
Doctor Octopus was also pushed a lot for a period of time and it looked like he was smarter than most people on that list. But with them being heroes, they somehow always get to shine more. Still, I wouldn't be surprised, if Doctor Octopus deserved a place on the list and pushed T'Challa out of the top 8.
And on topic: Lux Luthor. Lex Luthor could easily cure cancer, if he wasn't so obsessed with trying to beat Superman. It doesn't get much smarter than that.

Devil Dinosaur is a better character than Sentry, you will respect him.
But yeah, agreed on the girl power thing; it can and should be ignored.
And yes, the "official" list ignores plenty of villains... it's quite a bit biased.
It does, actually.
Both Osborn and Sauron were said to be capable of finding a cure for cancer... with ease... and they're not anywhere near top scientific minds in the MU.
