This movie confirms to me that Johnny Depp is insane, brilliant actor given, but you need to be off your rocker to be doing the stuff he does.

He was alright but I preffered Gene Wilder and the original over this one.

The original was more heartfelt, funnier, and definitely darker.

The original was a bunch of sugary happy go lucky singy song shit meant to launch a line of candy. It's overhyped based on being classic IMO but it never appealed to me at all so maybe that is why I look at it in that way. Plus the sets were crummy as hell.

I don't. Never liked his Willy Wonka as a kid and expected to hate Johnny's but I was strangely enchanted. I think it's Tim Burton though. Something about many of his movies speak to me.

Me too. Saw them back to back during the holidays. Burton and Depp really rule.

Not to mention Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is far more faithful to the book.

That's because they were trying to actual to a recreation of why Dahl envisioned and not launch a line of candy bars. The Willy Wonka movie flopped at the box office though and I think Nestle bought the rights to the name and started officially making the candy in the 80s.

I loved the original bacause it gave you the suspense of who Wonka really was. Did he exist? No one knows cause they've never seen him before.

I never could find one thing to like about the original except the ending because it meant it was over

The question is, why wasn't the first one like the second, and why don't ppl actually care, in a way.
