I've seen it, really good movie. Most ppl wont like it cos its more story based so kinda slow. The characters are portrayed brilliantly, Murray really surprised me. Very good, strong story and yes great shots of Tokyo
Coppola really knows what she s doing.
Just like everyone else in this thread, I just saw it, and loved it. I thought it was a very beautiful love story, one of the most touching and potent I've seen. I especially liked how the movie didn't use sex as a quick way to convey their feelings for eachother. Instead, they have a much more personal, and meaningful relationship because of it. They were both reminicsant of teenagers who have a crush on eachother but don't want the other one too know it. Sharing their feelings with eachother, their experiences, what they had was a beautiful relationship, not cheesy at all like most in film.
Murray was outstanding, and I hope he wins best actor for his performance. It was very low key, and at times he could have easily gone over the top...but he managed keep it low and in character, not capitolizing on the numerous occasions in the film that could have had a cheap laugh or too.
I wasn't impressed by the virgin suicides, thought it was very over rated. But Sofia Coppolla really impressed with this movie, she hit everything in stride, balancing a very thin line between comedy and drama, romance and friendship, smiles and tears. She showed true talent with this movie, and I won't be disapointed if she wins best director at the oscars.
If I watch this movie will it change my perception of Bill Murray? I kind of like thinking of him as his characters in Stripes, Ghost Busters, etc........will this movie make me think of him in a different light?
This flick was one of the best this year. Perhaps my current state of mind has something to do with that, but I can't see other not enjoying this movie at least on some level. Murray is superbly cast and Johansson is equally strong in her role. The direction and shot selection is incredible. Aesthetically the whole of the movie is the paradigm of perfection. If Bill murray doesn't win Best actor of the Year...Pain...Death and dark skies will ensue.
