Yeah, I found them last night, I'll hunt the link down later for you.

And I love Hypnotize. Probably my favorite album of theirs right now. They just keep continually doing new things, something quite rare in popular music.

Someone said to me that System aren't original. Upon me challenging them to find a band who sounds similar, they swiftly conceded their point.

It was rather funny. I'd stay and chat some more, Lana. But I have to go see some band or something.

Hypnotize came in at #1 this week making it the first time in history that a band released 2 separate studio albums at #1 in one year.

after listening to Hypnotize a bunch of times, i'm going to say it's just a little bit better than Mezmerize. Does anyone read the ridiculous Amazon.com reviews

I like reading those two.

After listening to Mezmerize and Hypnotize a bunch and hearing others opinions, this is what I have come to decide:
I personally enjoy both Mezermize and Hypnotize equally. However, for those who are not really REALLy big SOAD fans, Mezmerize is better. It is more conventional. The only thing that really stands out though is the lyrics. People who like SOAD but aren't some of their really big fans can listen to Mezmerize's lyrics with more eaze (because the lyrics are what seem to be more conventional). Hypnotize is more of a random and 'fun' album. The lyrics are crazier and don't make as much sense on the first listen. This is something that is admired by true SOAD fans. Without that admiration, the album won't seem as good. That is my belief to as why more people seem to like Mezmerize more than Hypnotize.

Mezmerize wasn't necessarily an accessible album, it just had a lot more obvious melody.

Hypnotize is technically their best work as musicians.

I don't know what most of the amazon reviewers are talking about, either their ears don't work or they just have this old SOAD ideal.
The most recent albums, are much more together. even on Toxicity, they get out of sync alot, Chop Suey runs away on them, ect. but I have yet to hear this on hypnotize... And their Self-titled one was very raw, almost too raw, they have now found a niche and and its working well.

I think the debut is still arguably their best.

Out of all the possible criticisms people could attach to System, I really don't understand how some critics can call them boring. That, of all adjectives, is the one that can't be applied to them, even people who aren't fans should be able to appreciate their constant energy, variation and unpredictability.

In short; boring my ass, b!tches.

System of a Down are rare also in that they are a "mainstream" band that have absolutely no peers in terms of sound-alikes.

I personally believe there are no bands out that sound like them. Not saying there are no peerless bands, just that there are no bands who sound like them.

although there is a tremendous difference between these two bands i often compare them to ACDC because at the timne of ACDC and still even today there is not a band the managed to emulate their sound. i love all there albums and hypnotize if probably near the top with mezmerize and toxicity

It's true. Though I've heard a few blatant copycat bands on the radio. You could tell instantly that they wanted to sound like them, but were failing big time. No surprise that I never heard them again and don't remember their name.

Sum 41 stole some of their music. It wasn't sound-alike but the lyrics were similar and rhythms were the same.

OK i was wondering what you think is the best SOAD (system of a down) album and song on that album is the best...also tell me why that is.

Ill go first
The self title System of a Down and the best song is Sugar. This is the best album because the music sounds new and Serj sounds really young plus a LOT of screamo thanks to Shavo and some good Drumming and Guitar. This album rocks out.

Toxicity, so many songs on that album that bring in their unique sense of Aermenian culture makes it a must own.

yep, its a upthere album. honestly i dont think they've put out a bad album. Steal This Album is more of a b sides affair so i dont call it a linear album, but System Of A Down, Toxicity, Hypnotise and Mesmerise are all fantastic albums. picking on song an album isn't something i could do either, but i do hold an affinity to Deer Dance
