It's quite a tough movie when you think about what lies beyond the images... (at least from my point of view...)
The situation depicted is quite horrible...
Story: Ken Park is a boy, a skater. What has made him commit suicide ? His girlfriend was pregnant. But the suicide of Ken allows us to enter the world of kids like him, adolescents. Enter their broken and devastated lives : One of them sleep with his girlfriend's mother,... The parents are gone. Not physically, of course, but the role models have faded away a long time ago. In this pointless world, some kids survive their own pointless way.
Review: What shocks immediataly is the crudity of the images. L.Clarks shows the vacuity and the pointlessness of that world the kids live in : sex, violence, depravity, loss of values. No image is spared to the spectator.
What an horrible world ! This lingering feeling is caused by the sight of all those wasted characters. The images are limpid, deprived of any kind of feeling or commentary... (More than PG-13 Spoiler (R ?)[SPOILER - highlight to read]: masturbation, sodomy, murder,.... )
This movie really made me think. The terrible situation depicted is a thing I hope will never, ever, really happen. I'm kinda speachless.
