Master and Commander

well I personaly liked this movie. Nothing too special tho, nothing new, nothing too fancy. just a good story, nice cinematic shoots, pretty realistic (except for the brain surgery), good way to show the life on a ship in the early 19th century.

get's a 7.5 out of 10

will buy this on VHS or DVD

I hate Russel Crow, so I didn't see this. Plus in the trailers they billed it as "gladiator on a boat", and since I despise Gladiator, I lost all interest in it.

How could you despise Gladiator? One of the best movies of 2000.

BF, go see it- take it from me.

This film is VERY good, the best take on Napoloenic era naval combat ever done on the big screen, or indeed in any visual medium ever- and that is something that has been tried many times!

And it scored in many places for naval realism wehere many such films do not! And where it did not score for realism it was almost certainly due to practical considerations rather than sloppy work.

They got the cricket wrong though...

I'm sorry, but I just cant stand that arrogant tool RC!
Ugh! Just looking at him makes me want to punch him!

Besides, ship movies have been done too many times.
I'll wait for this one to come on tv.

Indeed, Ruseel Crow is an over rated actor. His performance in Gladiator can only be described as mediocre. Nothing particularly special about it. Although that was a very disapointing year for actors, Julia "horseface" Roberts also won an award that by all rights should have gone to Ellen Burstyn for Requiem, which was one of the finest performances ever filmed.

Oh I know! Dont even get me started about how Requiem & EB were snubbed!!mad

If horseface had any class, she'd drop off her stolen Oscar at EB's house immediately! mad

Just got back from the movie and thought it was great. Russel Crowe did an awesome job (as usual). The battle scenes kinda shocked me with the cannonballs shredding the ships up. Only thing I didn't understand was the violin/cello duet every 20min. Good story line, acting, effects, et. 8/10

I think those duets were a great asset to the movie

BF I just went for the Director, I mean Dead Poets Society ROCKS, so this movie had to have something, it aint as good as DPS, not by a long shot, but still it is a good movie

this movie had one of the funnest lines i've heard in a long time, when they finally stop at the galapagos(sp?) islands and crowe says to the doctor guy "name a shrub after me, something prickly, hard to eradicate" i was dying for 10 minutes. the rest of the movie was kind of mediocre

Can you believe they're advertising this movie as "the greatest adventure movie of the year"? What a load of bull. We all know what the greatest adventure of the year is, and last year, and the year before that.
