He should have... hm... NOT bowed his head to the valar... maybe he wouldve been imprisoned longer for that... he shouldnt have asked Ungoliant for help but tried to do that himself even if that wouldve been far more difficult... he shouldntve taken Fingolfins Challenge... and he shouldve had more Dragons, more Balrogs and more things like Tevildo, Carcharoth and Sauron for the War of Wrath... and he shouldve let himself be imprisoned
He lost the war because of his stupid Ring... he should never have tried to attack Elendil and NOTHING of all that wouldve had happened... and there could be a peaceful and warless realm of the Dark Lord all over Middleearth... NO fights at the borders of any realms because there are no other realms anymore... no civils killed in any wars because there are no wars... no more need of stupid orcs if everything is in his hand

the nazgul are the best servants because they were consumed by the power of the one, and 'walked under the shadow of the eye, forever bent to saurons will' so basically if sauron wanted something done there is no way in hell they could refuse. they are kinda invincible, can be invisible if they want, are powerful,fast,clever but have the greatest weapon of all....fear....all around them feel dread
they did not get the ring because they could not find the hobbits, or when they did could no longer pursue them. whether it were down the hill 'old forest' or on weathertop when they were 'forced' away. there greatest chance would have been to capture sam wehen he had the ring on in mordor, but sauron could not find them, as the shadow he himself created for defence clouded his vision. and if he couldnt find them, the nazguk couldnt as they were his own now, and as iluvatar says to aule when he created dwarves, unless sauron thought of them as doing something, they stood idle.
