oh, orochimaru is like mr. sinister from marvel. like orochimaru sinister surgically implants other's dna into himself so that he can gain certain powers. thats another reason he has kabuto around.
for example, the cursed seal from juugo and i suspect he took stuff from all the members of hebi, so it is possible (if he is not truely dead) that new technique could turn up from him. heck, he always finds who he is looking for right? maybe he took some dna from karin...

yamato was the only successful replication of the 1st hokage, wood element lineage is rare and since the first hokage's family is either dead or not gifted with the mokuton, orochimaru had to procure his dna to create yamato.
he is successfull with other clone dna but he wants to possess all jutsu so, makuton had to be engeneered.

they are based off of creatures from japanese lore so they most likely reside in a dimension of their own, like digimon or something.
or maybe since they are mythical beasts, they were part of the human world like pokemon and ninja sealed them away as weapons and they stay sealed so time doesn't pass for them at a normal rate.
since they can in fact be killed, they are at least alive in some sense (imo)

yeah, but there is ofcourse the oddity of things like the tailed beasts and the kyuubi, who seemed to be just summoned out of nowhere or perhaps sum kind of parallel dimension. same with the shiki fuujin shinigami, and the 9 illusionary dragons etc.
Well this is just getting more and more confusing and interesting. At least Jiraiya wasn't part of the plan. That makes me happy. Though I seriously hope the reason the 3rd did it doesn't end up tainting his image. I thought Sasuke was going to go crazy there for a second also, and what next he's going to want revenge on Konoha?

Assuming Yamato has the power of the first since anyway. But yea if somebody who is hailed as the most powerful of one of the most powerful clans admired the first he had to be some kind of powerful.

well he did have his mukotan kekkai genkai. but i suppose the power that made him great{as said before in the manga} and made him become hokage i think was his ability to control tailed beasts, which may have been greater even than madara's own power.
Yea he's got the Kekkai Genkai but that doesn't make him as powerful as the person he was cloned from. Every other experiment Oro did was a failure so it makes me wonder if Yamato is as strong as the First. Though if Madara is really weaker and not just something Itachi thought then Yamato being weaker has a good chance of being true. Wouldn't it be funny though that Naruto doesn't even get the final battle in his manga but it's Yamato vs Madara instead as the final showdown.

Yea it would suck but I didn't mean funny haha but just different...But really when has Naruto been a main part of the story since the beginning? He's not really shown to even be that powerful without Kyuubi and Tobi should be able to keep him from using that and Yamato can obviously. It wouldn't surprise me if Naruto doesn't get into the final showdown.

actually yamato has already admitted that he being a COPY is no match for the ORIGINAL. but uro made it clear that the reason he cloned the forst was because he wanted those precious gifts, mukotan and the control over tailed beasts, which made him hokage in the first place.
also, what about the uzumaki clan. nuthing has been mentioned, and none of them are around in konoha anymore, maybe they were wiped out like the uchihas.
Why would they? They don't seem to have any kind of Kekkai Genkai obviously. And if Naruto is any kind of indication of how they are...They are dead because they were weak. Nobody ever said anything about his mother being that powerful either. Wonder if she died giving birth. I wonder if the 4th was an orphan also.
