Big Fish
Wow! Big Fish rocked! That has got to be one of the coolest movies i've seen in a long time. Some people said they didn't like it though. What do you think?

I thought it was a pretty great movie. Tim Burton is pure genius as usual. I'm usually not a big fan of the warm and fuzzy movies but this was absolutely excellent.

I just saw this a few days ago and I actually liked it. It went kind of slow at times but I thought it had a lot of good messages through out the story.

Big Fish was visually impressive.. but i felt that Burton just used flashbacks from the Albert Finney's character to show off his special effects.
Amazing effects but lacking in story.
But this is just waht i thought

Lacking in story? It was one man's story, in which people interpreted to be a lie, but in fact, in the end, was all incredibly true.
It was beautifully done.

The story i felt was basically a kid trying to find out if he's dad was telling the truth or not. But, aside from fairy tales, the actual story about son trying to find out the truth, is he son himself re-telling his dad stories..

I saw this movie a few days ago. Really enjoyed it, it was the perfect blend between reality and fantasy.
A bit different from Tim Burton style but thats cool

Big Fish was a real disappointment to me.
The story is too dull and even if the universe Burton creates is strange and agreeable, the bright and colourful atmosphere does not make up for what the movie really lacks, ie an homogeneity: it goes from sad scenes about the dying father to simplistic tales with happy-go-lucky characters.
To me the films really suffers from its comparison with another movie that uses the very same elements : The Barbarian Invasions, by Denys Arcand, 2003. These elements are the forced reunion of a young man and his dying father, stories told about the past and humour in spite of the tragedy that is to take place (the inevitable death of the father, in the end). Well, the Barbarian invasions didn't lack this unity in the account.
The mix between the tales and the tragedy becomes really ridiculous at the end of the film, for Burton tries at any cost to create a happy ending story.
Dull, simplistic : it became more or less boring.
5/10
