oh man, this thread was made for me
Queen of the Damned: It's a long music video pushing mtv propoghanda rather then a movie. Plus it uses every cliche about vampires you could possibly think of, and it is simply made to cater to the shallow gothics of today who will just eat up anything having to do with vampires.

The Matrix ~ Possibly the most over hyped series ever, the fight scenes were all choreographed and heavily relied on wires, the two sequels were merely money spinners to cash in on the success of the original.
Keanu Reeves is a pretty good actor but no matter how many 'butts he kicks' or guns he wields i couldn't get pass that 'Bill and Ted' quality of his. Joe Pataliano (sp) was one of the original films only saviours but what do they do...kill him off. The chemistry that was supposed to exist between Keanu Reeve's Neo and Carrie Ann Mose's Trinity was non existent. Although by no means the worse film i've seen it was not the best i've seen either.

Most "so called" Hollywood blockbusters mate. Big bucks & "special" effects usually equals naff movies. Look at these for example :-
The Matrix parts 2 & 3 = blatant commercialism of the highest order.
X Men 2 = Ditto above but also add lousy (non existant) "acting".
The Hulk = Probably one of the biggest wastes of money ever.
Pirates of the carribean = DISNEY, say no more!!. Blatant commercialism.
The list can go on and on. When is hollywood going to realise that good plots, good acting, good direction makes a GOOD Movie. Until they cease to cater for the lowest human dinominator it will simply carry on unchecked.
Be brave during your speech. Mention that most "blockbusters" are so hyped that certain "cretins" are almost forced into seeing them. Slag the "money men" who run the industry, whos interests are pure profit rather than art. Mention how few "original" ideas reach the screen. Why are so many movies just SO similar these days.

Independence Day..... hey, heres an idea for a movie: lets put every pro-American cliche possible in a long movie that steals unashamedly from anywhere we can, while ignoring plot, characterisation and suspension of disbelief. The scene where the Prez's wife dies was greeted with loud guffaws at our local flicks, and to be honest, we Brits saw right through it...
