One of my fav Aesop verses is from "Time capsule" off "Celestial Clockwork" great track, awesome production and all verses are great but Aesop is incredible with the picture he paints. The track is basically about leaving a time capsule for people in 100 yrs to find and see what the world was like and where we went wrong. Check this out:

"Dear then, I'm writing from the now
Trying to steer this crooked zen somewhere else and warn your crowds
The current date somewhat irrelevant, I can't see through this cloud
Wish I could say these bunk Samaritans boogied to make you proud
Spawned a thousand grand objects (?) dot daughters
But these fathers bothered only to harbor pain in the nostrils
The sparkle in they iris fell to earth
Dissension of the jackal hybrid overloader, draped over the curse
Now from the sunniest of meadows to the bummiest of ghettoes
Every man bloodthirsty buzzard behind sweet hummingbird helloes
And its portable mayhem that stems from every crevice a sentence burdened
And it's the result of sheep refusing to be herded
Radio, television mixer, hand cannons
Ying yang, the worker ants war dance for carjackin bandwagons
And I preface my apologies with a buckle that latch up, soldier
Hoping your professors counteract their predecessors
I know my job and bully my heart into every token tossed
I wish I had a penny for every word that I spoke and lost
Some cats never soaked up red elixir
Oblivious to the wild dogs procreate well beyond modern man's victors
And I'm done, I just completed knot thirteen, it's sliding well
My neck fits to perfection, I hung it inside my cell
It's in your hands now, closed eyes, pick off soon departing
Leaving you this letter and this worldwide ****ing mess, I'm sorry"

yeah man, you think aesop stole the song, then illogic comes in and does his thing, then eyedea comes in and just kills it. his second verse is crazy, i rewind that one and aesop first one almost everytime i listen to it.

edit:eyedeas third verse is awesome too.

okay let me react a little bit cuz you guys been hating hard on mainstream rap all night...

for those who's saying this is hip-hop this is not hip-hop i suggest you remember the history first. EPMD, Whodini, Kurtis Blow, Fat Boys, Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince, Ice Cube, NWA, Sugarhill Gang, Ice T were hip-hop. They did not spit any of these big metaphors or super social raps, they weren't the best MCs ever but are still hip-hop.

Hip-Hop is more than just spitting revolutionary lyrics or spitting big words. This thought process is pretty much a NYC/Philly/Jersey phenom. This is what they do to try & be-little other MCs & make them feel wack.

Hip-Hop is about fun (Rappers Delight, Hip-Hop Hooray, Parents Just Don't Understand), Intelligence & political (The Message, Fight The Power, You Must Learn), Gangsta (**** The Police, Murder Was The Case, Colors), Street (One Love, Juicy, D'evils) Battle raps (Ether, ***** In You, 2nd Round K.O.)

for example the south, it may not be the kind of hiphop we grew up on but to them that's hiphop, their kind of hiphop. who are we to judge what's real or unreal hiphop?

im willing to bet that someone in this thread dont know Kool Herc or The Message without checking up on google.

say word...

and HH the dips production are ****ing flames, heatmakers got beats on lock. AT LEAST give us that.

clearly those mc's you named did not spit heavy metaphors (eventhough there were mc's that did during the same time period), hip hop is hip hop because it promotes something good. it's conscience music. 99% of mainstream/commercial mc's do not even promote anyting besides their products and other garbage they are selling to the media's number one target. And cmon...Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Kool Herc, DJ Hollywood, Kurtis Blow, Afrka Bambaata (i always **** up on the spelling lol) we're not idiots man.

and Pointinel> i dont like Heatmakers, beats get boring too fast. There's no balance between the lyrics and the production.

Special Ed
Pharoahe Monch
Chino Xl

all have been spitting since the late 80's^

I can see what you're saying Point but all of those old school emcees you listed are not really comparable to the mainstream nowadays, at least the ones that get dissed in this thread. If there are mainstream artist out there that make good hip hop which is insightful, original and has a message behind it then i have no problem listening to it, i've always liked hip hop for that very reason and we're going way back to the 80's when i started tuning in.
The problem like -hh- said is that most mainstream artists just use hip hop as a get rich scheme and dont put any substance into their music, alot of people have no problem with this and eat it up which is their choice. But i have always preferred hip hop that strikes a cord with me, back in the day it was PE, BDP, Ice T, EPMD, Cube, Gangstarr among others that not only made great music but had a message that i could relate to and wanted to hear.
Nowadays i want the same thing out of hip hop i always have and it doesnt have to be full of multisyllabic words for me to enjoy. Blackalicious, The Roots, J-Live, Supastition and countless others make great hip hop without leaving you searching for the dictionary. I also enjoy more cerebral (i couldnt think of a better word) emcees like Illogic, Aesop, Lif and more who do use long words and i guess thats just how they get their point across.
The point im trying to make in case its not clear (weed tends to make me ramble) is that it doesnt matter to me weather the emcee i like uses Kindergarten language or University language, if the message appeals to me then i will listen to them.
Whew, now i've got that off my chest im goin for another cone. smokin'
