i thought HARRY POTTER 3 was the worst of the three movies.......it was a waste of my time......i was REALLy dissapointed.....the scenes were messed up.....the only good part in the whole movie was .
PHP: when harry was by the lake with sirius and 100 dementors came and they were about to perform the kiss.
Other than that the rest pretty much sucked.....the fatc that they NEVER wore school uniforms ruined the whole point of the movie......it was a wizard school....not a muggle one......and plus the new uniforms were pretty bad ( Harry was wearing a tie)..there is sooo many stuff they added and left out it would take me the whole day to list them.....but thats just my opinion, i know many people like it but im not one of them. well after seein how terrible this movie was, i dunt wanna watch the goblet of fire.

I'd agree with you to an extent Cinemaddiction as I was one of the fans (of both books and films) that was disappointed with the film but when you say they sold out for an older audience by taking on a darker theme I have to disagree. The films are based on the books and you have to read to books to know that come book 3 the whole atmoshpere grows alot darker and more volatile. In Book 4 + 5 they get progressively darker as well because the threat of Voldemort grows larger and more looming as well as other things happening so in that respect the film portrayed that well and did as it was supposed to do. If they were just films and not based on books I would say that maybe they were targeting an older audience or maybe they were just trying somethign different cos you can't do the same thing all the time and when it comes down to it Harry Potter isn't just for kids, there are plenty of teen and adult fans as well, as well as the fact that the characters themselves are growing up so it make sense that the feel would change with them instead of keeping everything light and innocent.
I do agree, however, that the mistake of this film was that it's like they took for granted that not everyone has read the book and just assumed that everyone would know what they are talking about. They missed out key plot points and the movie ran too fast to give people time to understand it and figure out what was going on - maybe they did that on purpose to make people watch it twice and get more money who knows
In addition to my other posts in this thread, I think an overview of the three films would be:
Film 1: It was classic English humour, dark but whimsical, and had a very ambient atmopheric feel to it. The scenes, even though not real, didn't look CGI'ed, they had an authentic feel to them - a good mix of warmth, mystery, fear and characters. This was the movie that got everyone.
Film 2: I always thought they ruined this one by 'Hollywoodising' it and designing it as a blockbuster action film and the quality seemed lacking as the mystery was played down to the effects. This film took alittle getting used to but after a while I realised it was ok because no matter how much action there was there was still alot of good chracter portrayal even though it was easy to tell that the actors/tresses found it difficult to act in front of nothing e.g. characters like Dobby, Fawkes, the spider and the basilisk were all added in later - but then again that would be hard for anybody whose not a long time thespian.
Film 3: This is another one we have to get used to I think and even though my cinema experience of it was horrendous and ruined by so many other factors that really pissed me off, looking at the film itself in retrospect, it wasn't really that bad. For all the things that let it down there were highlights too. I agree that there weren't many funny moments but there wasn't meant to be and if they made it anymore funny they would be betraying the story even more - and there were good scenes but because of the rapid pace of the movie you really have to think about it more to remember them on their own e.g. the Night Bus was good fun but short lived and even though there was alot of hype about it before, it was hardly noticed in the film because everything else. Alfonso really should have let the film be longer, gotten rid of that experimental music and bring back the old orchestra, not taken them out of uniform, and not missed out key plot points as well as not just cutting from one scene to another. It's obvious he wanted to show that he's not Chris Columbus and hence make it different but quite frankly, we don't care about what you want Alfonso and how you want to known as a different director, we want good films that stay true to the books as much as possible and actually make sense, even if they are mysteries. The one thing he did great at was the theme, it was meant to be darker and colder and he achieved that.
Damn lol all that said - I really hope he learns from this film and does justice to GOF and I also hope they've made good casting decisions with all the new roles coming up!
Yeah I noticed that - I wasn't sure if it was Padma of Pavarti though - but then again I noticed an indian girl in the very first film (e.g. look at when they are all being rushed to their common rooms but Harry & Ron run off to the girl's toilets to get Hermione) so I always just thought that was her. But then again, they held actual audtitions for P&P a while ago which means they're not using either of the girls in Film 1 or 3 I guess
I agree with you in many aspects, periera. However, I don't think it was *** HORRIBLE***. I saw the movie on Thursday (surprisingly it was released on June 3rd here) and I felt a bit disappointed. I had the feeling that there wasn't much continuity and enough dialogue in it, just like seeing flashes of the story. The chorus was ridiculous and one of the things I was angry about is that they never mentioned that [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Prongs, Moony, Wormtail and Padfoot were James, Lupin, Peter and Sirius respectively, and that they were the creators of the Marauder's Map. How could they not mention that James Potter's animagus form was a stag? That's SO important if we consider Harry's patronus form! Another thing: Ron was REALLY mad at Hermione in the book, here they seem to get along too well. Even Harry was mad at her about the confiscated Firebolt (this wasn't in the movie either). And were the HELL were the uniforms???
On the other way, I think that the new actors were fantastic, especially Emma Thompson. She was COOL! And I also liked Gary Oldman a lot.
I don't pretend that they put everything in the film, that's impossible, but some details are far too important to be missed. That's my opinion.
**Please correct me if I said something wasn't in the movie and it actually was**
dRe4MsRrE4L (uh, I had to do copy & paste, that's a difficult nickname!), you asked about spoilers, well, this was the first time I used them. I realised that it works if you write [SPOILER - highlight to read]: at the beginning of it and at the end of the phrase you want to hide.

I rather enjoyed the movie ...and I totally agree w/ greenfreak1402...i had that song stuck in my head for the longest time! My friends were all telling me to shut up cuz i kept singing "Something wicked this way comes!" ...and I also agree w/ whoever said that fred and george were really cute
hey dont mess with Ron . . . . he will make with hermione in the story. . . eventhough harry and hermione was a good couple... . . I admit it. . . . . plzzzzz. . but dont mess up with the story. . . Ron will win for hermione just in the story. . . plzzz make ron with hermione. . .
I didnt know anyting about that. .. but all i know in the is ron and hermione in the whole story they were fighting each other. . . they were developing they're special relationship to others. . ..
and also its too hard portrait all the scenes in the book because its very much too long . . .
[SPOILER - highlight to read]: It was a pretty good movie, I just REALLY wish that they would have stuck to what the book was. They changes a ton it seemed. Like people that read the books were'nt very happy with it and then the people that had'nt read the book liked it. My cousin also said that the end was kind of confusing. I did'nt like how it ended with him riding on the broom and then it just ENDS. I do'nt like that. And then what was up wiht the dementors? Why did they start sucking like right when thye saw a person.. I thought they were only supposed to like suck out thier soul if they were preforming the kiss? I have a lot to rant about. I could go on, but I'll spare you all.
No thats not true. . . they will be actor forever. . . no replacements. . . the prople would be dissappoint. . . about that. .. hope for a good film in the harry potter 4 . .. i think its too difficult to do the film because the book what i just read is too thick and many scenes to be shot . . . .
I've read the book, and I still loved the film. I mean, yes, the movie was SO fast-paced... But I think that's what make the movie different... besides, we have the DVD to look forward to (maybe the Marauder's scene is in the deleted scenes)...
One thing I do agree on though... someone mentioned about Harry supposed to be mad at Hermoine too... Yes, they shouldv'e put that in the film (even if it is in the deleted scenes).... Because I think they should show that it's not just Hermoine and Ron fighting all the time... Harry also hates her sometimes (particulary because of the firebolt getting confiscated by Mcgonnagal)... yeh
i like the new film better than the other two. I liked the way it was darr and that it wasn't as kiddy as the other two. I was disapointed that they mixed some bits up and they didn't explain everything but i think other parts made up for that.
I wasn't really impressed by daniel radcliffe's acting skills. He has a weakness which is that he can't show emotion very well. I found he spoked very monotonously throughout the film and was quite annoying. Other than that i found it to be quite an enjoyable film.
