An abandoned wife is evicted from her house and starts a tragic conflict with her home's new owners.
IMO this movie proves that you do not need constant twists and an original story to make a good movie. All you need is good acting, a good script (by that I mean dialog and characters) and a director that can put it all together.
The story is nothing spectacular but the down to earth feeling and directing makes it very good and worth watching.Despite all [SPOILER - highlight to read]: the deaths this movie does not cheapen it.Meaning it's not there to make it dramatic, it really fits the story.
The interpretations are spectacular. I'm surprised Jennifer Connelly (sp) didnt get nominated. If Ben Kingsley wins he certainly deserved it and so does Shohreh Aghdashloo.
The directing is really good too, quite impressive considering he's a 1st timer! This should be up for best film in the Oscars!
Hey Kes It's probably really late but i just saw this movie and i was stunned by everything. I (once again) must agree with you completely. Not a very original story but the way Jennifer Connolly And ben Kingsley deliver they performances are unimaginably profound. The movie was slow paced but it did it for me.
okay, i am sorry for breaking your streak of good reviews of this movie but...
i didn't much appreciate it. I didn't really care for the characters and the acting was mediocre. It is very hard to have a normal, realistic reaction to such a serious context. Personally, i think Ben Kingsley has done better and Jennifer Connely has potential, but it certainly wasn't exherted here. The movie was too contrived to be likeable, and not emotional enough to be understood. Direction was lame, and script was just alright.
its passable entertainment.
I'm really bad at rating movies because I'd say this movie is 10/10. It deliverer exactly what it promised. It needed nothing more then what it has.
But its not the best movie I've seen. Its good, really good thou. I suggest you see it and make up your mind
