A lot of the people who used to be really active in here I don't think are really around KMC at all anymore, which sucks. And then a lot of us don't really do sigs anymore either.
Meh. Maybe a contest will kick some life back into this place.
Not sure if kick-start is the right term. Activity would increase, but I don't know that it would have any long-term benefits after the tourney/contest. Because like you said, a lot of people aren't around KMC or don't make sigs much anymore for a variety of reasons.
Still, we should publicize it a bit more if we try it. New blood and such to make a go at new life. Maybe have a couple different categories, one for vets/skilled creators and one for inexperienced/newbs. Because all it takes to turn away handfuls of people is to see one serious sig by someone who knows what they're doing.
Not sure how we'd work that. Maybe just an honorable agreement not to enter the lower category if you're "good," or maybe something like "don't already have a signature thread" as the criteria. In any case, I'm available if you want a judge or something. Or if not I'll likely enter.
Well, bringing in fresh blood is what I mean by kickstart
Tiered judging would work, I think. Something like beginner, intermediate, and advanced. If someone's not sure what category they'd fall under they can ask us for advice. That way people would get a fairer chance and someone who's new with sigs or not very good with Photoshop wouldn't feel that entering was completely hopeless. We already do first, second, and third place with different criteria, so instead we could just replace the different categories with the tiers.
Yeah. Probably a decent idea. I'd suggest 2 tiers because we may not pull enough to support 3 full categories. But whichever you choose, you could outline some vague criteria for the different levels. If you don't have a sig thread, don't own PS, etc. etc. go in the lower catgories. Maybe even post examples ("Here's a TOH sig. Do this. This is top tier. Here's a Barker sig. Cry for him." ...stuff like that).
But PR. Build-up and announcements. I'll help as needed...just lemme know.
I like doing sigs, it just seems that people don't really want someone to do one anymore, I don't get any requests, and the more senior members as Peach said have either retired or left the forum all together, a tutorial slot would be a good way to bring people in as well as the said tournament/contest.
God damnit I actually watched that. I already spent the day with 6th graders and thought I couldn't feel like any more of my brain cells had died. I was wrong.
