And I'm perfectly well aware of the search function (I use it often), but if I didn't have to use it all the time, then my time here would be used more efficiently.

Make it so new members can only post in some playpen forum (OTF probably) and the welcome forum for their first ten or so posts, to help weed out the spam.

OTF is full of shit anyway and you know it.
Anyway, it'd be easier for mods to spot the spammers because they'd be gathered in once place initially. The smart ones would blend in and then go to other forums to spam, but srug.
They would move on to other forums because it would cut into their "spammy" time. It would greatly reduce the amount of spammers if they had to first post in a "welcome" thread AND get approved by a moderator before they could start posting.
Additionally, the initial posts could be reduced to just 100 characters. If they can only post 100 characters, they could not get their spam out...additionally, it would be obvious and the Mod would never approve their account for use on other forums. This would eliminate the vast majority of spammers. No spammer is going to want to take the time to pretend to be good just to spam. That would be a troll, at that point: not a spammer.
