The problem, again, is that once someone posts a thread, the rest of the thread is just general discussion about the movie, which is the same activity as the MDF. In addition, a lot of the reviews/threads were poorly constructed, didn't even include a review, and didn't follow the review guidelines.
You can just write a review, and title it "Review: ________" in the MDF, seperate from the other general discussion thread, and if you want, either you or myself can post a re-direct link to the general discussion thread for that movie.
I'm still not opposed to the "Review Thread" idea. Posting the reviews in the movies actual movies thread will result in that review eventually getting lost, and people don't always retitle their replies as something other than the thread name, so doing a search for "Review" wouldn't give many results.
Yep, that's what I've been doing. What I was going to mention, which would still be effectively "searchable", given the title of the movie is in the subject header, is start a thread of reviews of which only I could add to and edit as they accumulate.
It may sound better on paper than it would actually work, so I'd have to test something like that, first.
Please note: Movie reviews are now being forwarded to the MDF, as the "Movie Reviews" forum has been phased out. Therefore, we ask that you not report any threads with "review" in the title, as this is their new home.
A review post should bascially contain your thoughts of the movie. Including a basic synopsis (without spoilers), the good points, the bad points and you should finish with a rating out of 10 (or another scale of your choice).
If you HAVE to use spoilers then please use the
tag. i.e.
Darth Vader is Lukes father!
This will look like
: Darth Vader is Lukes father
We ask that ALL threads pertaining to a review of a movie be titled with "Review:", and the title of the movie, to avoid confusion. Threads that do not fall under these guidelines will be merged with the general discussion thread of their respective movie.
This is what I have decided to do. At the top of the MDF, in the "Posting Reviews..." thread, I'll hyperlink all the current reviews in the MDF, from that post. It'll be indexed, as well as searchable individually through the Search function.
It's basically the same format as the DVD Review Index in DVD Talk, which I created, and seems to be quite effective. That way, you can review the guidelines, as well as find the reviews quickly, and get a feel for what proper reviews are supposed to look like.
