They are specific to each character in terms of which ones the character uses in battle, but the tiles they are on are not character specific. Meaning each character gets all three of theirs out of ANY three [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Quickening tiles on the board.
And Usagi, FFXII mixes up the battle system enough that it's not as repetitive, and the characters are interesting enough to hold your attention (For the most part. Vaan is still a tad lacking in purpose...)
The story... if you like watching the machinations of entire countries, you'll like this. it's kind of a double story - the characters' personal quest, and what's happening politically and militarily, only not boring.
InnerRise, I've now gotten to about 20 hours, in [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Raithwall's Tomb. My current main party (Vaan, Balthier, Fran) is level 18, and the lowest level (Penelo) is 15. How does this compare?
Oh, and I went a tad insane on the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Urutan-Yensa ^^; First time I achieved a battle chain over 100.
@Marth18: Yes, you press R2 to shuffle in hopes of getting a white line again. That's part of the technique you need to learn to use the more powerful ones effectively.

im about 19 hours in now... just got done defeating [SPOILER - highlight to read]: the first judge i noticed how far ahead in levels i am of you General lol...i level up too much in the game i just got level 21 with everyone, [SPOILER - highlight to read]: your panelo is 15? mine was 20 when i got her , guess it depends on everyones level

I tried to follow your explanation on the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Quickenings but your wording kind of confused me. Sorry.
Oh ok. I've completed the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Tomb And I have no idea about my levels, I haven't played since last weekend.
I don't think I've broken 20 yet though with any of my characters, maybe I have, but I'm not sure.
As I said earlier, I'm really going to take some times the next time I play to just level up like crazy until I get so tired of it I won't want to play anymore .
I always make the mistake of not taking the time to level up in the beginning and I pay for it at the end of the game.
You're referring to that big [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Turtle creature that was terrorizing the sand men?
If so, I hated it. I would get it right down to near death and it would protect and become almost impossible to get that last slither of health to go. I ran the first time, but realized when I needed the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: sand men's help, I went back and defeated it.
Have you defeated the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Avion at the entrance of the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Tomb or have you not defeated it yet or come upon it yet?
If you have defeated it, did you do so with or without the help of the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: sandmen?
Oh, can you elaborate on the whole [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Quickening combination thing? Haven't had a chance to play and get more and the last time I played I only had one character's [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Quickening, so I didn't have the option to chain any together.
Oh yeah, to let you know where I'm at in comparison to you. I'm past the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Tomb as I said and then there's an event right after you finish with the Tomb and I'm past all of that, and I'm at the point where I just got back to Rabanastre.
So now I'm ready to depart to the next destination, but before I do that I'm going to go around, talk with people, certain people in particular who I think might want to speak with me now at this point in the game and level up some more as I said and then head out. So right now I'm not in the middle of anything. I'm Free.
Nice place to stop, considering I haven't had anytime at all to play this week.
anata wa wakarimasu ka.....

So what is everybody's take on the cutscenes thus far.
The only ones I've really liked that I would look at over again if I could was the[SPOILER - highlight to read]: Entrance of Balthier and Fran on that flying bike and the following cutscene of [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Vaan and Balthier and Fran escaping from the palace with all of the explosions and what not
I can' for the life of me remember what Balthier said right before he [SPOILER - highlight to read]: pushed Vaan over the ledge along with him onto Fran's motorbike but I remember whatever it was, I remember liking it and how it was executed right before he [SPOILER - highlight to read]: plunged off of the edge with Vaan.
It really added to the cinematic feel. That whole scene was fantastic.
What perverse thought went through SquareEnix's mind when they decided not to put a movie viewer in this game. It's obsurd. It was in Final Fantasy X-2, so there's no reason why they wouldn't put a movie viewer in this one. UGH!!!!
Cutscenes have been good, the audio seems to fit like the regular gameplay which i like, and they actually talk! *cough* ff9 *cough*
Lol you are having a tough time with that turtle? dang...
I beat that thing in seriously 20 sec, i used berserk with Basch and Ashe with two 1h axes, they do 47 dmg! but axes kinda suck without berserk at times, its random dmg but they rock... i went back to Rabanastre to get those new spells and armor since i couldnt get it in the sky city...
I beat it fast cause all my characters are 24 lol i should stop leveling and just do the story! I have almost all the ability/spell/accessories completed with my license points with everyone O_O
I use two parties
Leader: Attack party for leveling up <Vaan Ashe Basch>
<Balthier Fran Panelo>
My boss party is <Vaan Ashe Panelo> for hard stuff, i used them to kill that Mantblanc Monster hunt for that big ass turtle in the mines and Nidhogg, i got scared on the turtle i almost lost!
the only cutscene with the feal of an ff game is the one at the end of giruvegan. {but i havent yet seen the ending.{pharos at ridorana} done with all the mob hunts espers{all 13} ultimate weapons armours equipment, magics techniques, hidden bosses and omega mk2 about level 99. official verdict is in {for me} the game SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKSS
SSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!
a new and very VERY disturbing low for squaresoft. {once u get over the battle system{u do eventually, youll figure out just HOW much better random battles from previous final fantasies really were} basically valkyrie profile 2 beats final fantasy easily as the better of the recent games by square.{heck UNLIMITED SAGA beats final fantasy 12}
Dude, 1. Learn how to use spoiler tags, and 2. unnaturally dragging out a rather childish expression into three lines does NOT do much for your credibility.

No, at the time that you wrote that message I wasn't having a hard time with the turtle, I was passed it.
But let me tell yall something.
I leveled up and fought like crazy this weekend unintentionally. I was stuck at [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Raithwall's Second Tomb. I couldn't figure out how to progress once I got there. So I ended up traversing the snowy terrain back and forth , back and forth, and I found myself just looking through my Clan Primer and everything else on my Menu List over and over again I happen to be going over my Inventory for some reason for the somethingth time and I came over the Dawn Shard and remembered what the inscription said on the tomb, so I equipped my character with the Dawn Shard, which I wasn't aware you could, and it worked and I was able to progress.
The only good thing is that I ended up leveling up my characters a lot, but It took me 2 days to figure out what to do. So yeah. The boss battles in the Tomb were easy as pie, much easier than I expected. My levels may have had something to do with that, not to mention all of my characters have an armor with 18 or 19 defense or maybe 20 defense which also automatcally equips protect.
Yup, I got a lot of money from those battles. Not to mention I bought that Bazaar item, that was like 25,000 gil that allows you to obtain rare loot from monsters, so that really helped me in getting money to buy all new weapons and armor. They have really good high attack weapons as well, and they do a lot of multiple hits at one time as well.
I love the second [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Esper
It reminds me off the Summoning Monster in FFX, that ice woman. Also, all of my characters have all of their[SPOILER - highlight to read]: Mist abilities except for Penelo, she has one more to go. But Fran's 3rd [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Mist ability also reminds me of that Ice Woman Summoning Monsters final attack as well from FFX. I like it. They do a lot of damage.
I did have a hard time on the boss in the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Viera Wood I had to level up some and attempted multiple times to defeat it before I actually did. But compared to that, the bosses after that have been a piece of cake.
It was feeling as if The [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Mist Abilites and Espers weren't hardly helping at all with damage and weren't knocking off hardly any life from the bosses, but they have been satisfying with the bosses that have came after the one in the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Viera Wood I was beginning to get very disappointed and mad.
I was like, they may have given us these nice [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Mist abilites and espers but if you're going to up the Monsters/Bosses defense and strength like that, it kind of cancels each other out and we're really not getting any extra help, but it's all good right now. I'm hoping it's nut just a little break they're intentionally giving us before making the almost impossible bosses appear again.
I did knocked up some bosses with nothing but Mist Abilities.
When I first saw all of those ice elementals surrounding the Second[SPOILER - highlight to read]: Esper I was like "OH SH!T" this is over.....but then I said, "HELL, I mighta s well just start right off with my [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Mist abilties that seems the only chance I got and they may kill the Ice Elementals as well. And it worked So I'm a happy camper.
I gave the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Fire Esper to Ashe and the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Water Esper to Vaan. Fitting huh? Female with Male and Male with Female. Balances each other out kina. Of course the other way around would have worked too, but I didn't know what I was going to get, and in the game they made it out as if the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Fire Esper was meant for Ashe, so I wanted to stay true to that and I gave it to her.
I always knew I was give one to Ashe and the other to Vaan, so there you have it.
Also.........lost my train of thought.......hold on...........*Eats Snicker Bar for a minute*.......................still thinking........*finished snickers bar*............Oh yeah!........Anybody try to fight any of the elementals?? I did and now whenever I see one......I HAUL @$$!! I hate how they can come straight for you when you're no where near them, it's ridiculous.
So I'm 45 hours in and I'm headed to [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Archaedia or however you spell it. I'm just north of [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Nalbida I at first thought I would have to walk all the way from [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Mt. Obisace to Archaedia but after talking to some people, I remembered transportation and thanked god for it, b/c that would have been some time consuming journey that I wasn't looking foward to.
Making decisions as to which licenses to get is so hard. I hate it. I second guess myself all the time before and after selecting licenses.
So yeah.
Marth, did you not play FFX or FFX-2? They had voices in the cutscenes as well.
But FFIX didn't have any voices. That sounds ridiculous, I didn't know that. I've seen some cutscenes set to music videos and it looked as if they would have voices in those cutscenes. Oh well.
In my opinion, this Final Fantasy Game is very stingy with cutscenes. I've only seen 2-3 good ones, the rest are boring. All you get is opening CG Cutscenes of new Places/Areas and that's all, or either them talking a few seconds or looking at something.
Ridiculous. They do have the in game cutscenes which are nice, but we all know we want to see CG Cutscenes and in that respect, this game is lacking.
Can't wait to play some more. I actually missed my 8am class for this game and it caused me to have to get up at 7am this morning to make the 2 hr drive back to college and I stayed up late last night until 2am. So yeah, I'm enjoying this game.
Yea i played those two games but i didnt mention them cause i didnt like them, my fav will always be ff9...dont know why but it was just perfect to me! LOVE THE MIDGET PEOPLE! my freya owned hardcore
yea i havnt played for a while cause i bought a 360 with call of duty 4 and Gears of war, my god i stayed up all night playing that shit, those games fvcking rock! i dont know when ill play ff12 again haha hopefully soon!
I barely got time to play, and mostly what I do it's level up
I'm in the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: : 2nd time Garamsythe Waterway past the Palace . that CGI was amazing
I'm at level 15-16 with all characters and 22 hours of play time.
I still got alot to play compare with you guys, but I can't complain, the game it's entertaining enough for me to play for another 5 hours of leveling up alone
about the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: : the quickenings chain i've only got up to 7 hits
the prize for getting 50 chains it's [SPOILER - highlight to read]: : unlock montblanc in the Sky Pirate's Den .
has anyone beaten the game?
I read that someguy beat it in 4 days
either way, rushing into a game like that may not be so good since you miss so much of it.

Yeah, the CG your talking about is one of like 2 or 3 that I like the most. It was great.
Everything else CG that they've shown has been lackluster. Not in quality, but in content.
I still can't wait to get back into the game though, being that the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Espers seem to be effective in battle now, taking away chunks of Enemies/Bosses Life Meter and the newly acquired [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Esper that I just got, the second one that is, is great as well.
[SPOILER - highlight to read]: It heals you repeatedly while aslo fighting. I didn't realize what was happening during battle. I would just get this up in HP out of no where and then I realized that my [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Esper was doing it, the Blue Mermaid type one, Meena.
Then I was like. AHH Man, don't tell me all she does is heal and not fight, but then I saw that she was also fighting and taking a lot of Life away from the Boss, so I was like ALL Rightttttttt.
So I'm feeling pretty good right now about upcoming Boss Battles, instead of having that feeling of DREAD of impending Boss battles that you know are coming up right around the corner. And they don't play no games in this Final Fantasy Game. They are tough. Haven't they always been tough though? Oh well.
I do know that in Final Fantasy X, there was this one Boss, the one on the Air Ship where we fight on the outside of the ship, This Dragon type one and it's long. It's right before Yuna is forced to marry Seymour Gaudo.
I actually planned on quitting the game, and then I came BACK months later and in some miraculous way, beat it finally.
I'm actually in a situation like that right now where I'm on the final boss in Final Fantasy X-2 and it's been MONTHS, maybe a year or more since I last tried to defeat it. Ridiculous.
I'm praying it isn't the case with this game.
But we seem to have a lot more help in battles now thanks to the
I saw one screen shot from IGN that suggests that [SPOILER - highlight to read]: We also get a boss in the game (One that I've defeated already, the Dragon one in the Henne Mines) on our side as well. It showed him as being controlled by us the player on the field So I guess we'll have to see. Seems strange. Such a random Boss and why? Definitely isn't an [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Esper
By the way, to anyone who has played Final Fantasy X, doesn't Vayne from Final Fantasy XII resemble Seymour Guado from Final Fantasy X a bit?

Final Fantasy XII
ok well i started this thread mainly for those who would like to give opinions on this game, personally i think it is the best of the FF series yet
and what i do like is there is no more random battles and it has an awesome lvling system called the license system.
I read somewhere on gamespot that is the japanese take on star wars and yes it does have alot of similarities to the Star wars universe like the airship battles, the archadian empire and the rebellion(Dubbed the resistance). As a star wars fan i find this quite amusing and intresting
