The Rock is the new James Bond.
No - not the wrestler, (but hell if they can consider Huge Hackman then anything is possible.)
I did a search here to see if this had been discussed before - but came up empty. Soooo...
When my brother and I watched "The Rock" - the Michael Bay Connery / Cage movie we both independently decided that Connerys John Mason character was obviously supposed to be Bond.
Ex SAS, once the finest British secret service agent... HELLOOOOOO!!! ???
The idea that Bond had peed off the US Government over Watergate and they had locked him away without trial (just after Diamonds Are Forever) seemed a much more palatable idea than Live and Let Die.
We laughed at the audacity of "using" bond without naming him, and then... Nobody agreed with us. Ever.
I'm still convinced that it's case - and The Rock remains one of my all time fave Bond movies, and a far more fitting tribute to Connerys bond than Never say Never.
Thoughts?
