It seems as though everyone thats in here twig, has there mind made up about hp? so, why shld one be singled out cuz she doesn't agree? So are you saying if I agreed w/everyone then its ok to be in here? Now talking about pushing a beleif on someone...i would say that would be what you were doing. I have people in my own church that read hp lol I have never ever told them they were evil or ever treated them diff cuz they read it (to each their own). I don't go to heaven or Hell for them so it's not for me to degrade them and be rude. I try to treat everyone the same reguardless of what they do in their life. Not everyone agrees w/ea other and thats OK.
moo cow im glad that she was open to it i mean yes i do respect everyone's opinion...but honestly...you might THINK harry potter is bad (witchcraft, etc.) but wouldnt it be better to read the books yourself and develop your OWN views about it rather than listen to what people stereotype it as? just be open to it! it might end up harmless!

yeah my frandma is kinda one of these anti-HP people. She doesn't mind me reading it and such be she says the witchcraft is evil, then picks up her bible and reads about turning water to wine and parting sea's. Gimme a break. I love her to death but religion is pretty stupid sometimes...well a lot of the time...you know what i mean
Besides, they're always going ooooon and oooon about literacy and reading more so long as it's the bible. I guess Metallica could say this best..."You can do it your own way. If it's done just how i say" lol (always wanted to use that)

It does talk about witchcraft in the bible and here are a few scriptures for ya 1 Sam 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
2 Chr 33:6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
I've never heard anyone ever say that turning the water into wine and parting the red sea are the same as witchcraft. Doing those things came from God, the spirit of God, Doing witchcraft comes from the spirit of Satan. Big huge difference. One is evil, the other is God.
<<<---opinion*** but any kind of magic, spells, sorcery witchcraft is the work of Satan, thats how he draws people in. Just like the 900#s to get your future told to you, that is using sorcery, it's not of God, it's of Satan, thats how he lures people in. Kinda like a stranger that lures a kid w/candy, Satan draws you by intriging your mind w/witchcraft, sorcery, spells, lust of the flesh..... YOU thk wow that cool, you just keep getting deeper and deeper into it. Once a door is opened, it opens doors for all other evil work to come in.
well there you said it fiery eyes. you said ANY kind of magic or spells are the work of satan, but miracles are also magic as well. god himself made magie/miracles...and here you said that ANY kind of magic is a sin. However i know you also said God did it, so its alright. but who ever said these wizards in the book were influenced by satan? Magic innitself is not the contributing factor; it is what you DO with the gift. Lucifer CHOSE to do evil with his gifts...magic did not SPAWN from him. God chose to do good with his gifts. There is the same message in Harry Potter. The Dark Lord choses to do evil with his, but so many more people chose to do good with their own gifts, like fighting the dark lord. people control their decisions. not their gifts. harry did not ask to be a wizard, he was born one. jesus didnt choose to be a savior, he was BORN the savior. then again, Lucifer wasnt BORN evil. HIS decisions and ideals are what contributed him to lose his archangel status and become what he is.
In essence i dont know if you believe that jesus has an effect on the things you do in life; maybe its reprecussions. When people are ready to die, they are taken up to purgatory until their sentence is passed. that is the only way i think god influences your life. being devout is good, but if jesus really TOOK HOLD of every single one of our actions, wouldn't we not be known as sinners? but we do, and we pray for forgiveness. i guess what im saying is that jesus cannot MAKE you do anything, and if he cannot neither can Satan. Voldemort cannot MAKE you do anything with your powers; it is up to you and strength of your will and character. Magic in the right hands poses no threat whatsoever so long as its user is responsible. no where in the books are any of the heros/heroines irresponsible. they may make a mistake or two, but according to the word of the lord, everyone makes mistakes; is a sinner.
i guess im saying that not all witchcraft is bad. witchcraft innitself has a negative connotation...have you read the books? NEVER in the books does JK call it witchcraft...why? she calls it MAGIC. that word has a positive connotation, just like the word MIRACLE.

There are instances of magic also expressed in the bible, some instances where they are harmless. "Magic" comes from the root word "magi" which means "unexplainable." (my brother is a latin major) There was a Magi in the bible mentioned in Matt. 2:1-12. They were not magicians in the ordinary sense of the word.
They belonged to a religious caste, the followers of Zoroaster, the astrologers of the East. However the things they found out about the celestial bodies in the sky were deemed "magical." Simon, a magician, was found by Philip at Samaria (Acts 8:9-24). Simon was called a sorcerer as well as a magician. We can recall that the Three Wise Men who visited Jesus at the manger were also referred to as magicians or magi (the root word in MAGIC. According to the first biblical description of Simon in the Book of Acts he was referred to as a wise man. The Samaritans said of him, "This man is that power of God which is Great," a judgment which is only acclaimed to few men. Simon also was called an "uncanny magician." His contemporaries sensed that Simon possessed abilities above the ordinary man. It was said that he "amazed the nation of Samaria." Not all magic is bad...heres reference from the bible itself

I see both sides of this contrevoursy.....but I am a book lover and I just happen to love this book................
It's intriguing to me b/c I know its not real. I love reading about things that aren't real. Real life gets boring to read about sometimes.............
But I'd never dig too deep into this. I just enjoy the HP, LOTR and many other books that have wizards..etc... IE: me=BOOK LOVER
