Beleg Cúthalion
An elf worthy of praise.
Legolas should take note of this thread. Because here is where you can talk about Beleg Cúthalion
Strongbow Like the cider.
Talk about anything to do with him. From his daring adventured with Turin.....to his sad and early death.

BELEG!!!!
Definitely one of the most amazing characters
He's one of the few elves that is neither prissy nor foolish nor irrealistic...
And nearly the only fully good person I really, really like
If you do not wish for guests, you should keep better watch. Why do you welcome me thus? I come as a friend and seek only a friend. Neithan I hear that you call him.

The second one... isn't that by Anke Eißmann? Wonderful artist... she did several ones of Beleg
And the first one - Tad Nasmith?
Here another by Eißmann
I had a part of it as an ava in MSN for a while
Gwindor looks scary though

the first one is either Tad Nasmith or Howe. The site I'm looking at has the same pic for both artists. odd.

I don't think it's by Howe... his style is kinda different
Here another... where he's still alive must be some seconds before he is killed
From the Lay of the Children of Húrin
For at the feet's fetters then feeling in the dark
Beleg blundering with his blade's keenness
unwary wounded the weary flesh
of wayworn foot, and welling blood
bedewed his hand – too dark his magic:
that sleep profound was sudden fathomed
in fear woke Túrin, and a form he guessed
o'er his body bending with blade naked.
His death or torment he deemed was come
for oft had the Orcs for evil pastime
him goaded gleeful and gashed with knives
that they cast with cunning, with cruel spears.
Lo! the bonds were burst that had bound his hands:
his cry of battle calling hoarsely
he flung him fiercely on the foe he dreamed,
and Beleg falling breathless earthward
was crushed beneath him. Crazed with anguish
then seized that sword the son of Húrin,
to his hand lying by the help of doom;
at the throat he thrust; through he pierced it,
that the blood was buried in the blood-wet mould;
ere Flinding knew what fared that night,
all was over. With oath and curse
he bade the goblins now guard them well,
or sup his sword: Lo! the son of Húrin
is freed from his fetters. His fancy wandered
in the camps and clearing of the cruel Glamhoth.
Flight he sought not at Flinding leaping
with his last laughter, his life to sell
amid foes imagined; but Fuilin's son
there stricken with amaze, starting backward,
cried: Magic of Morgoth! A! madness damned!
with friends thou fightest! – then falling suddenly
the lamp o'erturned in the leaves shrouded
that its light released illumined pale
with its flickering flame the face of Beleg

Beleg was good, but I prefer Turin-so much untammed evil!

Túrin wasn't evil at all... in contrary, just think of his role among the outlaws, he has a good heart, just a little bitter... everything he did kinda served evil automatically, but that was hardly ever his intention... that's what makes him so unique and one of the best characters in the Sil - if not the best, besides Beleg of course

Beleg was great. He was a true friend.
it was sad that he was killed, but what was worse had to be Turin when he had realised what he had done. That would have just killed him.

Beleg certainly deserves a pint on me....but not silly strongbow sider (and definetly not Scumpy Jack, which I had the unfortunate grief to drink last night).
I think Beleg was probably one of Tolkien's best characters, he is just so damn cool and never gives up.

In my opinion he's one of the few elves that could beat Turin in single combat and only Legolas maybe could rival his skill with the bow. But none was better in forest warfare.
