The story arc isn't over yet, but I think what it boils down to is, he's been hired by the X-Men (astonishing team) to help take down Cable. I'm not exactly sure why they gave him the new costume, besides placing bets on how he reacted to it when he woke up with it on.
I think they should completely reform the X-Men. One team to represent them. None of this 80 incarnations. It shouldn't be Wolverine & Buddies, it should be the X-Men. Deadpool joining would be ****ing amazing, him and Wolverine, the comedic value of Torch/Thing times 100.
The whole Deadpool with the Astonishing X-Men is happening in the current Cable/Deadpool arc--Burnt Offerings happening in issues 7-10. 11 and 12 is a two parter which deals with the repercussions of Cable's acts and it guest stars the Fixer! Effin' A!
Ord revived him with sciences beyond that of meer regular ol' Earth Joes. They then kept him around to test/torture. Though not stated in so many words, I'm guessing they were able to modify the anti-bodies that cured the Legacy Virus into curing mutancy. Colossus was a primo case of these anti-bodies, and no one would miss him, as he was "dead". The Colossus that the X-Men cremated and spread in Russia was just a fake body or something.
