okay now im confused first u tell me that this isnt much of a fight and surfer wins, then u say that cable can extinguish stars and he BROKE the surfer's board, if he can extinguish a star and break the surfer's board than surely he can defeat the surfer.
Yes, he could have defeated him and had the power to do so but unfortunately he wasn't focused on fighting the surfer at all. If he could break the unbreakable...then surely he could defeat the Surfer had that been his intention and obviously it wasn't. Throughout Soldier X, Cable had been trying to get rid of his powers and something tells me he didn't go full force on Radd because this is the result he wanted.

"It's all right, scott - dad - this is what i wanted...what i needed - only way to stop my powers - to keep myself from ever losing control - was to - to ..."
He is probably referring to wut happened, which was his goal.
But yea, i was shocked myself that he broke surfers board because as nathaniel mentioned, it meant surfer could be broken aswell. however all you surf supporters beat it in to me that its impossible.
I guess we were all right though in a way. Cable CAN technically beat surfer, but it would never be allowed so realistically..cable can't beat surfer. and to fit it in tha plot...cable WANTED to lose.
Hmm...interesting. The way I read it was that Cable wanted to become a messiah figure...he wanted to be a martyr and teach humanity a lesson through his death (hence the original name of the arc). If anything, SS showing up was a wrench in his plans since he didn't want to fight him.
The way I read it, Cable eventually got pissed off enough to go all-out against Rad, and managed to break his board. Radd in turn juiced up and disabled him....I suppose the writers did a good job since there are a lot of ambiguous points in the fight to satisfy both surfer and cable fans.
Not saying you're wrong...just interesting how we can read the same story differently...
The only thing I didn't like about the fight was that it was toooo short, and Surfer was portrayed as a bit too cold (which people seem to like).
Yeah he lost his powers i believe. his arm has to be fixed now, thats wuts gona happen in tha next 2 issues. if you ask me, it REALLY sucks that he lost his powers...but then again with powers that supreme, wut can you do? it would get boring.
this is incorrect, maybe cable is able to beat surfer but not because of this. morg already broke surferīs board once and then surfer beat the crap out of him. ths surf board is virtually indestructible but the board is not a living being able to control the cosmic power. maybe it was a bad choice from the writers to do so. but i didnīt read the story and i donīt know how easy did cable break his board so canīt really talk.
No hes saying that if tha board is breakable than Surfer must be breakable [material wise]. Surfer is known as an indestructable being as repeatatively mentioned in this very thread but apparently if his board is breakable..so is he.
yea but Maorg broke the board too and it didnt mean anything...it just meant that Surfer got pissed and went crazy on him, the fight destroyed an entire planet
Okay, having finally read this story through several times...I gotta say the authors did a good job.

Both SS and Nate were tearing apart and reconstructing things as they were fighting.
Cable opens his *mind* to SS, and is baffled why SS is trying to stop him. Finally, Cable let's it be known that he won't be thwarted by SS (so SS showing up was NOT a part of his plan). He easily breaks his board, and points out to SS that his board WAS unbreakable, so he better watch himself...Cable's show of force is to inform SS that he's not messing around. SS get's smacked around a bit, get's up and finally speaks his few lines of dialog, which makes perfect sense and in my opinion explains Surfers actions satisfactorily, and projects a wisdom that only a herald of Galactus could learn the hard way from experience.
So with a blast, SS downs cable and knocks him out. I thought SS nearly killed him, but he didn't...that's not in SS's nature! Rather, he knocked him out, and so Cable's powers drop to near-nill levels. Before flying off, SS tell's cable "You'll live without your powers...".
I thought he was striping away Cable's powers, but that's obviously not the case since later Cable is using his powers. Rather, SS is giving Cable *advice*...I suppose SS knows Cable's predicement from the mind-link they had at the begining of the issue. So it's only reasonable to have SS state what the reader already knows at this point: Cable's gotta get rid of his powers before he looses control of them, killing him in the process (isn't that what happened to X-Man?). SS is being compasionate, although in a cold way...AWSOME!
Ive never considered the Surfer's board unbreakable, Morg and Galactus have both easily broken it...in the case of Morg, breaking the board only ensued a very horrid ass kicking...Cable may have travelled time but he has still only whitnessed or experienced a mortal life...SS was Galactus' 2nd herald, do u know how long he's been around?
this story sounds pretty neat...I will read it in the comic store if i dont buy it.
