it did what it was suppose to do.
chronicles the last 12 hours of Jesus.
One of the greatest movies I have ever seen {and I have seen alot, alot, of movies. alot}. mind can register, cannibal ferox to now and back.
Whomever said it is like an indie up and coming filmaker's first try is comparable to ****. The quote, not the person.
It was harrowing, and violent, and thats what I would like to see more off.
Ok finti here's my review of the Passion of the Christ:
A very good movie. Any version of this true story is going to have some interpretation involved, but from what I could tell, the interpretations were accurate with Biblical accounts of the events. It was sad and a bit gory.....but that's good. It brought to light the sheer amounts of pain that were involved with Christ's crucifixtion. The injusticeness of it all is clear....he did NOTHING to deserve such treatment, but the wicked hearts of men prevailed. In hindsight, it was a good thing, for through his sacrifice we are indeed saved. However, as this movie pointed out it wasn't some simple "ok I'll do this" kinda deal....this was "OK, Father, I submit myself to your will."
I saw this movie about a week ago, didn't see anything stupendous about it. The gore was good and well done as was the acting, the rest of the film was pretty typical. It was good, but if the movie werent about jesus christ then no one would have cared about it.
The gore itself got very out of hand, and ended up dulling the story a bit and actually desensitizing the audience too the violence. I found myself falling asleep at numerous occasions where the violence was continued for far to long.
I agree BF.Ppl made such a big deal about it I ended up getting very disappointed.
I liked the acting and the story is put together well, with the going back to give us a little insight. I dont think it is as violent as ppl say maybe because the violence is continue like you said. I liked the devil (it wasnt over the top) and the Judas scenes, nice touch.
But Mr.Mel Gibson needs to learn a few things about continuity and meaning. I didnt like the parts where he tries to be arty, like slow motion falls and stuff. Also there are a few scenes that have no meaning and only serve to give the feeling that the movie is bigger then it should. Which it is IMO.
Overall I was disappointed. Whats the big deal??(rhetorical question).
I thought that it was good that the movie was very realistic. It didn't show him doing loads of miracles, and almost all of the movie (except for the last scene-which only lasts for a few seconds) is true to historical fact rather than religion or myth. It is more of a movie about the death of an individual, rather than a religious preachy film.
I thought the whole thing was extremely graphic. The scene where he gets almost all of his skin flayed off stands out in particular, and the part where he has the nail hammered into his hands.
I noticed that in most other movies or TV programmes about his death, they blame the romans for it, but in this film, they portray the jews as the one who killed him, showing how the romans set him free and did not find him guilty of anything.
I thought that it was a really good movie, and passed quite quickly for a 2.5/3 hour movie.
*****
The Norwegian press slaughtered it, they uses a dice to rate movies. (where 6 is the perfect score :rolleyes
This one gets a lot of 1`s, 2 is the highest score of the papers I read so far. (4 of the 5 major ones in Norway).
It is described as a boring splatter film, but my fav among the critics was the one who said "what a piss poor story"........ oh now I just have to go see it. Will come back with my personal review after that...........................stay tuned
The part where he gets all of his skin flayed by the whips that have metal blades on the end is really graphic. I'll remember watching that for some time.
i'm not religious or anything and the bible is the most misunderstood peice of writing ever, so, it can really mean whatever you want it to mean. Who cares if biggus dickus was shown slightly more understanding.
i have asked people who don't like this movie, and to tell the truth, they give no real reason not to like it. other than it was boring and violent or not violent enough.
look, lots of amazing movie have boring scenes in them. Citizen Kane, probably the worst-best movie i have ever seen.
get good reasons.
and no, they don't play organ music when Jesus comes on screen. I mean, of course, to a certain extent they have to sensationalize Jesus, but, i don't care, and i really didn't notice.
people also told me, that this is kind of the bubble gum movie of its kind. People who want to retain their rough-and-"tough" exterior may not want people to be privy to the information that they like a movie about Jesus. Because, c'mon, religion sucks, right? Aethiesm and Anarchy, is the swing that kids these days are getting themselves into, right? because it is, whats the word i am looking for, uh, cool! thats it, it is cool to hate.
now, i am not a religious person, but as a movie, i loved it. it was sad, and everything a truly good movie should be.
still a 10/10
i want to say it is my favourite movie, but Fight Club still holds a dear place in my heart, ironically.
