Good Bye Lenin!
Good Bye Lenin! is one of the greatest stories put on film. Christiane is an award winning activist for socialism in East Germany until she has a heart attack, and falls into a coma. During the months she's asleep, the Berlin wall has fallen, and capitalism has taken over. She wakes up and the doctors tell her son, Alex, that she can't know the wall's fallen, and there's no longer socialism, or she'll have another heart attack, and won't be able to survive.
So Alex and his sister have to recreate their mothers room exactly how it was before, and they must dress the same way before. Everything must be how it used to be.
And you know she'll find out, but will Alex be able to think of something logical that would explain it? Or explain the hints she sees? There is so much more, but I don't want to get into it. You need to experience it yourselves.
This is a classic film, and I think it'll be around for a while.
It's hilarious at times. Touching. Happy. Sad. It has everything. The acting is all around great. All the leads and supporting actors were great. The director does an awesome job of conveying so many messages, while not shoving them in your face.
This will definitely be on my best of list at the end of the year, and I can't imagine a better script coming out anytime in the next couple years.
