Matt Bellamy - The new Hendrix. He mixes ability with songwriting where other guitarist's focus solely on ability and descend into pretentious, self-satisfying rubbish (Eddie Van Halen).
You do realise he has to have a billion and one guitar effects built into his guitar to do what he does, right? He's a good guitar writer, he's not the outstanding player everyone thinks, and certainly not the "new" Hendrix.
There is no new Hendrix, but if there was, it would be Tom Morello. Does everything Matt Bellamy can do, better, with barely anything more than a regular guitar.
Though, I don't think Matt Bellamy is the greatest guitarist of all time. I do think he's an extraordinary musician. It's evident on songs like Unintended and Space Dementia, in which his abilities shine through.

It's probably impossible to say who is the "best" guitarist of all time. If we're going on ability to play then I know loads of guys who can play anything as good as Eddie Van Halen. Does this make them among the "best" guitarists of all time? Anyone can play guitar, the trick is to be innovative with it and subsequently you have a "line" of "best" guitarists - guys who make the guitar sound fresh again. Hendrix, Page, Van Halen, then we go to the Vai's, Satriani's etc. However, Hendrix will always be at the top of any innovative list so I guess that makes HIM the best guitarist of all time.
