Yep and as such he is an American Icon and his symbol is recognized world-wide. His image has lasted 60 plus years and will live on much longer than any other Superhero.
No doubt the movie will make a crap load of money for Time Warner, not only in box office receipts, but also in likely associated Superman Returns comics, action figures, a resurgence of Superman Halloween costumes and assorted other crappy merchandise. It is after all the first Superman movie in over two decades if I recall correctly. Imo it will quite easily surpass the 200 million domestic mark whereas BB is looking to fall just shy. Superman probably isn't the worst character ever but imo he can't be thought of as the best for some of the reasons that some have offered up. Iconic does not necessarily mean best, first does not necessarily mean best and marketable does not necessarily mean best.

Oh yeah I Love Spidey Batman Wolverine and Superman the most ever but come on Supes holds his own.
lOl Superman didnt have to change much. Batman and robin holy shit they changeddddd. Holy jelly batman arnt we in a jam, andbats going pow, well now look at Batman and his changing to be the koolest person ever. In the past Bats acted gay as hell too. Spidet changed too. Superman stands strong.
Again first is not best so who cares if he was there before Marvel. Superman is largely a product of a bygone era. Frankly he's not that interesting, and the fact that as you imply he hasn't changed much makes him even less interesting.
I've read (but can't remember the source) that the level of introspection by Spider-Man is what set him apart from other superheroes in his time.
The colours on Spidey and Supes costumes aren't the same and their costumes bear little to no resemblance whatsoever. Superman's was designed in three primary colours with a big S on it. How original (this is sarcasm for those who don't get subtlety). There's a big difference between the costumes, Superman's one is very lame .
Many heroes wear costumes under their clothes. That scene was a homage to Supes. You should use spellcheck.Supes(and the rest of DC) was once so ridiculous and powerful that he had to be destroyed. The Supes you see now and the original are 2 different people. Supes is having more and more problems as Clark now. He was recently demoted at his job or something. Back in the day, he only seemed to have problems when in costume. They change that to make him more relatable, like Spidey. Spidey has grown up, but he hasn't really changed his character. Never needed to. The great thing about Spidey is that he's ALWAYS been cool. He never went through any gay phases or s**t like that. And yes, Batman was ultra gay back then
