In both cases, note that Wolverine lives, though in the latter, he is rendere'd useless.

Decapitation would be the only way to kill Wolverine (omitting extreme old age) though the problem comes about as to how? Remember, the Adamantium in his body is indestructable once in a solid form, and not only that, but you need to compete with his regeneration abilities simultaniously. This having been explored, what is needed is another character with adamantium since only a metal of equal or greater density has a chance of doing any damage (this is taking into account that in the Marvel universe, Adamantium is the end all strongest compound of course). There is other option however, Vibranium which in the Marvel universe is known as an "anti-metal" that CAN pierce even adamantium. At this point I point to Captain America, who's shield was constructed from Adamantium and coated in Vibranium, and thus, theoreticly, if thrown hard enough, could decapitate Wolverine! Problem with this is since Captain America's death no one has wielded the shield again (save Stephen Colbert). Thus, very few people in the Marvel universe have the tools to kill Wolverine. The following is a brief list of people with access to weaponized adamantium who could possible decapitate Wolverine:

-Agent Zero
-Citizen V
-Moon Knight
-X-23
-Lady Deathstrike
-Underworld
