Another pretty good, incidental episode, though it clearly had no role for Rory.
Doing well so far with the polar opposite to the arc-heavy season 6. If they can land a real classic this season, I think it could be Matt Smith's best. Well, let's see how it goes.

I liked it, figured right away the alien doctor wasn't "clean". Yeah no real point to Rory in this episode. Not going to lie, I won't mind if Amy left and Rory followed the Doctor as his companion still. I know that won't happen as both will be gone soon.
I also liked the connection between David Tennant and Matt, as just like David without a companion the Doctor goes a tad nutty.
I think that was the implication for Chris Ecclestone, too, regarding how he changed over the first (revamped) series due to taking Rose on board. 'Dalek' is a good example for this.

The Black Cube story was not bad story but there seems to be a error in certain facts..
[SPOILER - highlight to read]: when the cubes killed people near them by stopping their hearts they would be brain dead after three minutes and the Doctor took way longer than three minutes to bring them back to life.
Apart from this over sight it was clever in its own way.

Well, yes, though really the plot part of that story made no sense in many ways. The whole 'the cubes are the most effective way to wipe out the human race' idea is obviously gibberish, so best not to think too much about it. It was more about the nature of the Doctor and his companion relationships; shades of The Lodger. That part was funny and good, the plot part... less so.
So that's another fairly good-ish episode. Hmm. Nothing is wrong with this series per se, but it does start to feel like it's coasting a bit. Next story looks to be the big one, of course.

With the 9th, the implication, if anything, is that he wasn't in that incarnation very long. His problem was PTSD from the war, though. The first series of new Who was, in many ways, the story of how a damaged Doctor was turned back into being the Doctor again (with Tennant playing a far more traditional Doctor persona) due to his contact with Rose.

Theory #1 [SPOILER - highlight to read]: the character Rory Williams is actually the Doctors arch nemesis, The Master.
"Rory has been becoming much more irrational and aggresively violent. Also, in the episode "Let's Kill Hitler" after witnessing River's regeneration and being exposed to RAW TIME ENERGY for the first time, he begins to complain of a "banging in my head", which Amy dismisses as Hitler in the closet. Also think back to "The God Complex". Rory did not have a room. He was the only character they made a point to say did not have one. And when the Doctor looked into his room all he said was "Of course it was you." and we hear the wailing of the TARDIS distress call in 4 repetitions. The only other time it has made this sound was when The Master stole it in series 3."...cool theory, but unlikely
Theory #2 [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Doctor Who. The Doctors name is a word of power, something that was introduced to the series in Moffat's series 3 episode "The Shakespeare Code". What does the Doctor's name do? It unlocks the time war. This is the reason he trusts no one but himself to know his own name. During the ending of "Forest of the Dead" the tenth Doctor also states to river that there could be only one way she could have known his name. This is also the reason why The Silence are terrified of the Doctor's name. And why not? It would release the Daleks and the Timelord from the locked time war. It's speculated that this is the premise of the 50th anniversary episode.....interesting.
The bit with the Brig's daughter was priceless. Last couple episodes have not faltered but were also somewhat formulaic. Still, every show has a central formula, so I'm not even sure that's a complaint so much as an observation.
Hmm, because of the fake out there, the emotional pacing wasn't quite perfect in that story. RTD did that sort of thing better; this one felt like it missed its crescendo. It's also another story where it's not a good idea to think too much about the logic of it.
But it was a good story, and much as I am generally annoyed to see River around, she was fine here.

I'm just wondering if we'll see the last meeting of River and the Doctor before she goes off to the library.
Any chance of somehow faking that out also goes out the window with the whole "if you see it it will happen" stuff from this episode.
But although the pacing was off (bits of it just seemed rushed and the whole thing could have possibly been done better as a two parter), I think this was possibly the strongest episode of this half of the season.
I can't feel super sorry for the Ponds. Though it probably didn't help that I wasn't quite as emotionally attached to them. For all her faults, Rose's farewell hit me harder. Good story though.
I actually liked Rory far more then Amy, I was sad to see him ago and his send-off was really non-existant. For some reason I thought they were going to fix Amy so she could have kids and that's why they would stop traveling.
That might have been a better ending. Ever since that episode with the flesh-clones, I've really disliked Amy, and she, imo, got worse and worse. Nice that she made that gesture for him at the end, though.
Yeah, I'd like to see that. His scenes with Wilfred were excellent back in the Tennant days.
I kinda disliked Amy, didn't really like Rose either cause I always felt like she was trying to be like the Doctor which kind of annoyed me for some reason
