Kal could be a reference to Kal-El, or they could've just liked the name. Although he is a big Superman fan, according to IMDb.

I didn't hear about that, but I heard from somewhere that there is some form of Superman reference in each episode (never watched the show).

I never watched it either, but there is supposed to be a Supes action figure somewhere in every episode.

Seinfeld is a HUGE Superman freak! And yes, every episode has something Superman-related, though most are just pictures or statues of the Man in the background, nothing significant. I'm sure Kal-El had something to do with his child's name, but also his father's--Kal Seinfeld.
