Just wanting to check for those who may be in the know- is the Playstation Move on the back foot? It occurred to me that it had dropped out of my general consciousness in a way that Kinect and (obviously as it is so integral) the Wii remote had not.

As far as I can tell, yeah. They're really not making many (if any) games that are specifically for the Move, and they never did really advertise the thing at all.
For all the flak that MS got for the press conference at this years E3 by showing mostly Kinect features and games, at least MS are still making a big effort to promote it.
Damn!
The PS Vita has some beastly specs for a handheld.
Touchscreen + PS3-ish graphics + Dual analog + Quad-core = BEAST!
Next year or two will be interesting.
Smartphones are making a jump to quad-core as well.
Smartphones will be the future of handheld gaming, I predict.

Remeber that? I remember a few people in 2010 telling me that '11 was the year of ps3, but it was never the case.
i lent the prediction some credence even as a 360/pc player because of cell and it's potential but nothing happened to make it the year of ps3..it was more the year of wii, 360 and pc especially in the graphics department..

Because graphics doesn't really mean shit in regards to how popular a game is; ergo the PS3's only claim to fame (being the most popular system) didn't help it out much.

While I agree that its graphics really aren't the only thing it has going for it, I really don't think it has the better selection of games in terms of quality and quantity. I've never quite been impressed with the PS3's library of games (at least its exclusives).
Well going by the gamerankings aggregates at the very least, which is generally considered to be the most credible online videogame review aggregate, the PS3 has far more exclusives at the upper percentiles, having 21 games that score 85% or over, the 360 with only 13 (the Wii also outperforms it with 17).
And the PS3 only has better graphics on games that are exclusive to the console. Multiplatform games either look the same, or look better on the 360, thanks to the complexity of the Cell processor and developers not finding it worth their time and money to really bother with it.
Sony also has a really shit marketing department - they've never been very good with marketing, and while they've gotten better, they still don't market their exclusive games nearly as much as they should.
(merged the thread into the proper one - don't make a new thread for stuff that goes in here!)
They may be critically better than the 360 library of games according to game rankings and scores, but I'm just going for my own personal opinion on games. That's the only reason I've never gotten a PS3 after my PS2 was because the 360 exclusives just appealed to *me* more, that's all.
PS3 exclusives tend to get better critical reviews, but they also tend to be more of a niche appeal thing; games like LittleBigPlanet, Heavy Rain, and Infamous are amazing, but not for everyone. The 360's exclusives tend to target a much wider section of gamers, so they sell much, much better.
Heavy Rain makes me yawn just mentioning it. But yes, that is basically what I'm saying. Most of the PS3 exclusives just don't appeal to me. Even Little Big Planet, which looked fantastic upon seeing videos and watching others play it, turned out sub-par (to me) and just didn't hold my attention. It has an amazing concept and the gameplay is truly unique, but I would only play it once in a while.
The PSN debacle seriously hurt it, Move is barely supported (it integration into hardcore games is great, but not as advertised) Kinect help M$ tremendously... among other things
Next year PS will outsell Xbox, but that's just sheer numbers (the 360 it's only greatly successful in the US, outside it mostly sells like sh*t)
PC is only talked about now because of graphics, once the new crop of consoles comes out matching graphic quality, it will go back to being a niche group for awhile. Cloud/streaming gaming could be the future rendering PC gaming, and console gaming, almost obsolete anyways
what about the Wii? how could have this year been better for Nintendo than Sony? This was its worst year, there were no games for Wii (except Zelda just less than a month) and the 3DS bombed almost entirely. It since have taken some much needed steam, but still... nowhere better than Sony.
Still, and this is my opinion, PS3 had better games this year. Besides GoW3, I had no interest in purchasing games for my 360... maybe HALO Anniversary, and I still haven't bought Gears
the only game I bought this year for 360 was MK9
