I laugh at the people who said that Deadpool got played in Origin. Honestly, think about it: It showed off his fighting skills, it showed off his funny side, and it showed off his serious side.

And what if Deadpool HAD succeeded. Wolverine is dead. Story over.

He HAD to lose. I dont think theres any other way about it. He was the bad guy, he was GOING to get played. But it definantly showed off his finer moments during the fight.

Besides, Deadpool seems like he's always been written as a largely impotent villain in the mainstream comics. Even when his name is in the title, he still comes off as operating well below his potential. I think it's all part of his mistique. If he ever really tried he'd be a force to be reckoned with, but he doesn't...Why?

You have to look past the fact that two + two is four, and ask Why only two?

Yeah, DP got played do Logan could get to the kid, but I don't really look at it so much as Wolverine winning as Deadpool loosing. He played the Bond villain to the hilt, he usually does, and he ended up haning himself.

Sure maybe it's just writer's preference, but I kind of got the idea that they were trying to say a little more. Like maybe there's a reason why he's not giving up his all. Like if he really gives it his all and F's it up, he's got nothing to build on, and if he starts doing more than just enough to get by, people will start counting on him?

I think they're building him up for his big paradigm shift....Or maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part.

i hear that.

in the matter of respectability on the behalf of deadpool, you could argue that wolverine was letting him win but, you could argue that wolverine became bloodlusted during the fight. wolverine knew that he could prolong his fight with deadpool, win or lose, he would live long enough for the next step to fall into action because he knows wade. in other words, to logan, the setup was worth the risks.

dp could've killed him in the next issue. you could argue that too but, pm me if you're going to.

that doesn't mean he wasn't fighting back. regardless of what issue 24 had in it, the previous issues would suggest that wolverine was being serious. especially after he was duped by the decoy baby bomb.

moreover, Kenori has a point, it's a wolverine book. it's not going to be about wade and it was a bad story to top it off.

one thing for certain is that credibility lies within the way deadpool setup traps and his overall humor, if nothing else.

now please, this is a respect thread, if you aren't going to show it (post scans or give props) gtfo.

Look. Dude. You don't have to think that a character is perfect or wonderful on some deep phylisophical level to be a fan.

It's all about the love, man. I love DP even when She hulk hands him his ass with a flick of her wrist (ok, she had a little shoulder in there too). If you love a guy, you love him most when he's at worst....like that poem about the footprints.

Umm.. Ok I just finished reading the last issue where it explains his whole plan, and nowhere in that issue did it say that Wolverine planned EVERYTHING. Yeah he hired deadpool to take him out. But he didnt set up all the stuff with him. Nor did he beat the shit out of himself.

No this is still relevant to a Deadpool respect thread. Wolverine had no idea WHAT was coming, only that it WAS coming...

??? Ok, Grumpy Dwarf, us mere mortals will endeavor to avoid making comments and pics that remind you of anything unpleasant....

But seriously, I'm saying that, if you're really a fan of a character, you respect him for who he is, not what you think he should be. If seeing DP fail at something makes you uncomfortable, maybe he's not the guy for you.

All of that aside, I've heard a rumor that he's supposed to do something important with the secret invasion, and have his new solo comic out of that. Which they said is coming in September.

And who is this Agent X you speak of? I've heard the name, but can't place it.

Battlehammer does have a point.

I think we all need to consider that the point of these Respect threads is for people who may not be familiar with a certain character (or not even sure if they like them) to get a taste of some of the things that character has done without having to invest in buying back issues. With out the proper context (ie. the last issue), those scans are ambiguous and misleading.

Now, I can't say the scans shouldn't be included in this thread; they certainly were impressive at the time they were uploaded... but the final issue changed the context of the entire story arch. I saw the plot twist coming a from a mile away at the start of the very first issue, but I can fault anyone for missing it. It's not a big deal that the scans were added and even ignoring the fact that Deadpool got "played" there are some impressive and funny character moments at the very least.

BUT I think at the very least the scans of the final issue should be included to put the fight in context. That way anyone who isn't familiar with Deadpool, who didn't read the Origins story and is just cruising the forum for scans with out reading the posts isn't misled. Remember this thread isn't for people who already love and respect Deadpool, but people who might be swayed to do so... don't mislead them.

Agent X is from the Agency X book that "replaced" Deadpool's solo title for a while. He was an assassin that was an amalgam of Deadpool, Black Swan and himself. Not sure if it is worth reading now though... I liked it at the time it came out, but much of that might have been because we weren't sure if he was Deadpool or not. Taskmaster has appearances though, and that's always good.

I'm a little worried about Deadpool.

Marvel Zombies 3

quote:
“[The miniseries] will have serious ramifications for the Marvel Universe moving forward,” Van Lente said. “And for one Marvel hero in particular.”

“Still hungering for a clue?” Sankovitch teased. “Let’s just say that ‘Merc with a Mouth’ will gain a whole new meaning!”
