First off, hope this isn't old news. If so ... please go easy on me; I have been away for six months, after all ...
Well ... the title is pretty self-explanatory, I think: Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie, and Scarlett Johansson are ALL apparantly now out of the running to be the Bond girl in the upcoming "casino royale" {having all been offered the part, rumour has it, only to turn it down}. A shame, really - they're all beautiful, talented actresses whom I'm sure would have proven excellent leading ladies for Daniel Craig's James Bond. But then again ... an actress is surely only as good as the script that she is given; I mean, look at what happened with Halle Berry's Jinx ...
Still, it's good to know that they're casting higher and higher profile actresses these days to lend some gravitas to the role of JB's latest squeeze. And so, the search continues, I suppose...
I actually quite agree, I believe that it's empowering for women that they are casting higher profile actresses for the bond girl role. They can now I feel hold their own against for example Pierce's amazing bond imo.
Disappointed that Charlize turned it down as rumoured. And I hate Johansson so that's alright. I couldn't see Jolie playing it, I think she'd steal the show in a sense, but that's a biased view since in Tomb Raider where her and Craig worked together I saw no chemistry nothing.
I wouldn't bet on it, Ahnold that they offered Jolie the part... she's been rumored to be the bondgirl for the last 3 movies now and she never got a meeting with the Broccolis or something. I think it's just (up to now) a fanboy thing
Though I suspect them casting the girl would be something for the first week of january so we're getting closer
I've read that she turned down the role because it wasn't right for her after having read the script. She wanted changes and they refused, apparently. But again, all rumour.
I wouldn't want any of these 3 to be the Bond girl. I'd want someone that is like a Brandt or something. All of the girls recently have been so caught up in the whole "hey look, I'm Bond's equal, aren't I great? Hear me roar, I'm smart too and I can punch a villain!" that they're losing their coolness. I understand that for a while now there have been some Bond girls that have fought along side of Bond (Goodhead, Amasova) but if every girl in a Bond film has to somehow top Bond in a way, it gets ridiculous. Think about it...
GE - Natalya calls him an idiot and such all the time and apparently he needs her to do computer skills when he even thinks of the password in a second flat and she wastes time. Xenia kicks the shit out of him.
TND - Wai Lin is now the Chinese Bond. Paris was a great character, the best Bond girl in a long time.
TWINE - Elektra out does 007, and Christmas is needed for diffusing the bomb and such
DAD - Jinx is the 007 Equal, Miranda outdoes Bond.
C'mon now. Why can't we have a Bond girl like Kara Milovy, who is a pawn in the villain's game and doesn't know it, but doesn't have to show "serious woman power" too? Kara's a great Bond girl. And don't give me the "women need role models" bullshit cause there shouldn't be an issue about that in every single film coming out.
Do you agree with me or do you not - Bond is a GUY'S SERIES. It should be written for guys, not for women. If they want their own James Bond person, let them make Jane Bond and see if it works as well. Bond at one time was the ultimate guy, he smoked, he drank (and none of it affected him), he had sex with every hot chick he could and a lot he couldn't, he was legally allowed to kill people, he drove fast and awesome cars that had freakin rockets in them and such....now what..
