The border is a bit too fat, but that happened cause the border was too small for the sig, and I was too lazy to redo it, so I used freetransform to make it bigger. Lol.

I dunno, personally I hate those kinda borders, I feel the border should be small and unobtrusive and not be a focus of the sig.

But that's just me.

Brush using only black or white (depends on what the background color is), and use gradient, color, and color balance layers yes

looks much better and you can get much smoother and more polished effects.
