Martin Scorsese vs Steven Spielberg

Who do you think has made the best movies out of these two Spielberg has made some great movies but hardly any of them compare to Scorsese's top 10 list my vote goes to Scorsese who do you like better

here are a list of the great films Scorsese has made

Mean Streets
Taxi Driver
Raging Bull
The King of Comedy
Goodfellas
Cape Fear
Casino
Gangs of New York

Now Spielbergs great films

Saving Private Ryan
Munich
Schindler's List

I have absoloutely nothing against Spielberg them three movies are brilliant but Scorsese makes great films all the time none of his films are crap like Spielberg has made e.g. ET need i say more

really this is equivalent to asking who makes better music...sebastian bach or jeff buckley...they both make music...but they're so different from one another that a comparison is pretty pointless

casino
goodfellas
gangs of new york
the colour of money
raging bull
mean streets
kundun
the aviator
taxi driver

v

schindlers list
ET
jurassic park
munich
war of the worlds
amistad
empire of the sun
close encounters
duel
jaws
and lets not forget his greatest work...an episode of columbo

i guess you could criticise both for doing several films of a similar nature...but given that scorsese does the gangster film and spielberg does the ww2 jewish history films so well that it's really pointless doing that as well

Did you all know that Scorsese was going to do Schindlers List before he gave the rights to Spielberg becuase he felt that the project should be done by a Jew

Yeah...pretty much.

Although if there were a right answer, you'd have to say it's Scorsese...he's the man.

Even his worst films fair better than Spielberg's weaker efforts, and he never gets annoying (too many Spielbergisms in Spielberg films that myself and many critics have come to grow tired of).

...having said that, the films that are most dear to me from those lists would be Spielberg ones...just 'cause they're my kind of films.

Scorses's the master though.

Yeah, you do. My vote goes to Spielberg, personally. Scorsese's got a tendency to overdirect all his films, and "Taxi Driver" is just overrated as hell.

"E.T." isn't overrated at all, it's a movie that people hold dear, that's all. It's never really won acclaim for anything. Scorsese's biggest flaw is that he lacks emotional variance, which is why he does the same movies over and over again.

Don't forget about 'Raiders Of The Lost Ark' now, y'hear! erm

This is a tough topic. I like them both, but I think Speilberg might be a bit more entertaining.

Spielberg is far more versatile. Scorsese does too many crime movies. Spielberg has made more movies and better movies that go across all different genres. Spielberg's light movies are much more fun than scorsese's heavier films, and Spielberg's heavy films are far more intense than than scorcese's. Has Scorsese ever come close to equaling the power of the D-day invasion in Saving private ryan, or the drowning of slaves in Amistad, or liquidation of the Krakow ghetto in Schindler's List, or the liquidation of the work camp in Schindler's List, or pretty much any scene in Schindler's List.

I think if they were to get into a fist fight, Scorsese would win of course. However, if they were to have like a big screaming match in Hebrew, Spielberg hands down.
