Because he wanted to ambush him? That was from the same issue, early in his career - i.e. before he fought Doomsday. An attack like that builds more kinetic force anyway, so it did more damage than he would have done if he had just attacked directly (which he tried already).
Are you just going to ignore all the times he goes from standing still to flying somewhere on the other side of the planet so fast that noone knows what's going on?
In fact he even blitzed other Kryptonians in action comics annual #11....
His speed feats are so far above anything ever seen in DBZ that it's really pointless to debate this.
superman is written by many different writers and drawn by many different artists. there are enough inconcistancies to drive a person mad. at one time, a nuke seriously hurts him while another time, he absorbs explosions which can destroy galaxies, same with the speed, sumtimes he cant beat sub light flash and has to aaccelerate, while other times he travels to distant galaxies in hours.
Even so, you have to use the GCP (General Character Prowess) because Superman's power varies depending on the writer.
Here is the generally excepted view of Superman, Superman has to accelerate to reach great speeds, he can't withstand a nuke, but not a planet destroying explosion, he can fly at up to light speed, he can lift 1,000 tons, his laser vision can melt through all metals, he can hold his breathe far hours, and he can see through anything but led.

In my opinion superman in general is
able to move at near light speeds, ( light speed if its a life and death situation)
Can lift around 100,000 tons
Cane take a nuke, and just survive a planet destroying attack
Heat vision at its hottest come close to the surface of the sun
In general, Superman is Superman from 1978, and that Superman wrestled with techtonic plates to stop an Earth Quake, and time traveled with brute speed.
Superman can easily lift over several 100 thousand tons.
Heat Vision hotter than stars.
Can easily survive nuclear explosions and planet destroying attacks.
Can achieve faster than light speeds.
And he doesn't need to accelerate to achieve great speeds.
Cause you know Superman has never expanded his heat vision before.
And DBZ don't even have that great of durability feats to begin with. Gokou does have impressive display of will though during the fight with Piccolo at the end of DB though.

He's using movie Superman I think, cuz he thinks Goku would have a better chance against him than comic version, which is weird, because movie Supes kicks Goku's ass almost as bad as current Supes. Movie Supes= Pre-Crisis
Wait that seems a bit odd. Movie version beats Gokou almost as bad as current version but movie version is equal to a stronger version than current version? How's that work lol.

Sherlock Holmes is brought in to replace L and uses Watson to be the link between him and L's team. Can he figure out Light is Kira before Light figures out his identity and kills him? He gets all the knowledge of the Death Note book and the rules that the team has. Also can he figure out the fake rules before it's to late?
