So, what? The player basically fights a losing battle against Wesker?

you go through the mansion (full of traps) I naturally assume it will cut off just before the cutscene segment.

It sounds good.
supposedly is good old fashion RE (before it became more action oriented) so I'm all up for it.
hopefully it'll come as DLC, but I wouldn't hold my breath

All About Resident Evil 5 Alternative
Full report on Capcom's motion control update.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/102/1029349p1.html
quote: September 29, 2009 - Resident Evil 5 is getting motion controls for a PlayStation 3 retail release titled "Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition." Capcom and Sony announced this at the Tokyo Game Show but unfortunately failed to share all the details. Today, thanks to Famitsu, we have a closer look.
RE5 Alternative Edition combines the original RE5 with motion controls and a new gameplay episode. It also includes all the download content that has been released until now.
The motion controls are handled through Sony's new motion controller, which is currently unnamed. During Sony's TGS briefing, staff members controlled movement with the Dual Shock and aiming with the motion controller. It's also possible to play just with the Dual Shock.
In addition to using the motion controller for aiming, you'll use it to swing your knife and perform other such actions. Famitsu also says to expect additional new combat elements that one might expect from a motion controller.
The new episode pairs RE5 hero Chris Redfield with classic RE series character Jill Valentine for a scenario that's set three years prior to the events of 5.
A trailer shown at the Tokyo Game Show left some believing that the mansion that serves as the setting for the new episode was the mansion from the original Resident Evil. It's actually different from that. The mansion you'll be playing through appeared in a flashback scene in RE5.
Producer Jun Takeuchi shared a few additional details on the new episode with Famitsu. The episode was originally planned as part of the main RE5 release. However, during development it was decided that it didn't quite fit in with the flow of the rest of the game.
Because the development team believed fans would love a chance to play as Jill, they considered offering the episode as download content. However, it ended up being too large to be offered as a download, leading to the retail release.
The new episode will not actually be a part of the main game. Players will have to select it as a separate mode from the game's title screen.
You can expect a two hour play experience from the new episode. In terms of content, Takeuchi said the taste is more horror than the rest of RE5.
Aside from the motion controls, the new episode offers a similar play experience to the rest of RE5, with Jill taking over for Sheva. The game can be played cooperatively online and offline.
Cooperative play is actually compatible with the original, so owners of RE5 Alternative Edition can engage in multiplayer play with owners of the original. Takeuchi would not rule out being able to play the new episode between the two versions. Despite what Takeuchi said about download sizes, this seems to suggest download content for current RE5 owners. Or perhaps Capcom will stage some sort of trade in program?
For those who upgrade to the new version, Takeuchi confirmed that save data and trophy data will carry over.
Takeuchi also confirmed something that he said during a stage event at TGS. Xbox 360 owners can look forward to the content in a different form. He said to expect details in a future update.

The Japanese alternate edition site goes live; as you can see from the front the new scenario is being shown at full force.

It really does feel a lot more like RES then 5 did.
Also a trailer showing the flashback gameplay.

They better crap this out on the PC, because RE5 was actually pretty fun.

I hope to God the Alternative Edition will have zombies in the Spencer Estate because I've been waiting to see that happening. Fighting zombies in RE4 gameplay would be a win.

It's Spencers mansion not THE Spencer mansion, I doubt Spencer would live in a manner full of zombies.
If anything the guards will be mechanical in nature and the place will be full of traps but other then that don't expect anything else.
Again to clarify this is not the spencer mansion from RES 1 this is Ozwell E Spencers own private mansion.

I know that. Hopefully he has a secret lab in his basement with B.O.W.S. that escaped captivity and are after Chris and Jill. They need to put something in there because if it's just traps, then what's the point of making an extra chapter for the game?

Add much needed length to the game since it's short as hell?

True but it ain't as short as ODST that's for sure and adding only traps feels lame because Resident Evil is popular because of the creatures, not booby traps.

And yet everything that makes Resident Evil popular is taken away in 5, go figure.
Except for the awful voice acting, that still stays.

Everything that made Radiohead popular for OK Computer was gone with Kid A.
So were most of their fans.
It's arguably their best album.
I'm basically saying that Resident Evil 5 didn't suffer at all, in my humble opinion.

Screw zombies. I don't want to fight sitting ducks. The mansion needs Mr. Xs and smart Tyrants .

I lent my copy of RE5 to a friend for the weekend and he, too, says that the final fight is lame, lame, lame.
Why is it that so many final boss fights are such a letdown?

Because they're often shoehorned into a game. Boss fights aren't necessary anymore, they're an archaic element that are often more annoying and predictable than anything else.

I totally agree. I saw what was coming at the end of Batman: AA from a mile away.
Still, I think that as good a job that developer Rocksteady did with AA, the could have tried a shade harder, if you ask me.
