After killing my first Big Daddy, I thought the area was clear, so I went back to do someting and then I realized another Big Daddy was there...I was like, "Sweet, more Litter Sisters". Then I realized that the game just gives your another Big Daddy and repopulates the area with him.
Kinda of shitty. I killed him then, went to Neptunes Bounty and then changed my plasmid to Icenerate so I could get into the Funeral Home. Another Big Daddy, so I just sneaked by him. heheh.
General Kaliero, my problems with the demo are not unique to my system, according to Gamespot's review, some systems have audio problems.
ooo getting it tomorrow hope my PC will play it okie, got a couple gigs or ram, 7600 geforce and duel core and tonnes of storage about 500/600 gigs so hopefully it will not be too buggy in the full release
Started playing this evening- nice! Though I can conifrm it's definitely an upgraded SS2. The central mechanisms- weapons, powers, vending machines, hacking, genetic alterations (change 'annelids' to 'splinters' and you have the same thing, basically), mechanicals, audio logs, a character guiding you by radio and a nutter behind the whole thing comunicating at you at times, set scary pieces, the conversations you can hear of other bad guys around, the use of sound, light, visual effects... all of this is from the previous game. At the point where I am listening to an audio log under sudden attack from genetically weirded up beings as scenery explodes around me whilst trying to get my armour piercing bullets ready to take on the defence turret whilst my hacked security bot flies around trying to keep me safe... well, I could very well be back on the Von Braun where I learnt that play style for the first time, a few years back. Exact same use of ghosts, too.
In fact the two main differences for a fan seem like retrograde steps- no choice of starting skills (not really a skill system in the same sense at all, really) and no inventory system. However, neat as it was the inventory system didn't add much to SS2 and was a right pain at times so things are smoother without it. I'll hold judgment on what game has the better development system.
Of course they have become better at everything, and that's not just the awesome graphics (which luckily my PC can cope with). The 30s style is exceptionally well realised and gives it an originality beyond the (although also well done) biological/cybernetic sci-fi of System Shock.

The only thing I don't like very much is the death system. Having pretty much no consequence for death hurts the tension at times. Did SS2 have the same death system?
But, the game is so immersive and engrossing that even then, it's still easy to lose yourself in the game, and it does a great job of suspending disbelief. Despite the whacky premise of the game, everything is so perfectly realised, it makes everything feel plausible.
I think I'm approaching the end of the game. When I finish I'm going to start a new game and play through it again.
Actually yes, SS2 had a very similar one, though you had to find the chambers and pay to use them.
Also inn SS2 they were carefully integrated into the plot in a clever nod to anyone who had played the ages old SS1 and were a clue about what was going on.
Whereas in Bioshock it seems to be a matter of "Oh btw, they could come back from the dead here."
Hmm.

I played the game for the first time today and I'm enjoying it.
The graphics are amazing of course. I didn't realize right in the beginning that I was in control of the character. I was just in the water waiting for something to happen and I decided to see what happen if I moved the knob forward and he moved. SO yeah.....
The levels are quite expansive and can be intimidating a bit trying to find your barings but it's all good.
This game isn't as scary as I had anticipated though.
I believe the closest part to being truly scary was [SPOILER - highlight to read]: when you get the shotgun and are ambushed, but that's more simple creepiness since you can't see anyone but hear their footsteps all around you. The sound design may be the best part of the game.
