So, how long did it take people before they got sucked in by the game?
I tried the demo back in god knows when, and I really didn't think much of it so I never played it. However now with all of the Bioshock Infinite buzz I decided to pick it up during the amazing sale where it only cost $1.
And honestly, it isn't doing anything for me. I've played to the point where we first encounter water (ie.e water I can shoot plasmid at to electrocute enemies), and the aiming (or rather, lack of) mechanics I find annoying and the setting seems interesting enough... just not enough for me to prioritize this over everything else I have got lying around.
So, does this game get a lot better soon, or is it just me and you were all hooked at this point?
I never got very far into it myself. A few hours in before I ADHD'd out to play some kewler shit.
The gameplay is very hit or miss, I think. I know people who laud the game like it's flawless, I know people who got bored to tears with it.+

Yeah. Game's not for everyone. I was enthralled pretty much within a few moments of entering the light house and stayed that way pretty much right till the end.
You know, I think my main issue are the aiming mechanics. In shooters, I like to be able to aim (clicking in the right stick didn't seem to do much). This was also one of the reasons why I didn't get into Halo 3 much. We'll see when I continue with this game (downloaded Banjo-Kazooie on the XBLA, now this game is ****ing awesome).
I'm convinced the game will win you over when you start doing Tango with the Big Daddies and the story starts getting interesting and more plasmids are introduced.

I don't care for Bioshock all that much. Loved Bioshock Infinity (in my top 5 games of all time now). I guess the reason I didn't get as into Bioshock as Infinity was the overall setting. I'm just not that big into horror and that's what Bioshock had was a horror atmosphere. I like the game. Still leaps and bounds over some of the crap they come out with now like Halo 4.
That's also a factor, the same thing that stopped me from trying and enjoying Gears of War for ages (huge fan of GoW 2 though). Dark, depressing... seen it so many times it just feels boring.
Just to follow up on that, in the same sale I got Bioshock I got Max Payne 3. I have now played 20 minutes of both games, and MP3 makde a much, much better impression on me (both storywise and gameplaywise), so I'll focus on that before returning to Bio. WHich is why I posted my original question, how long did it take for people who liked the game to... like it?

I beat this recently for the first time since 2011.. there were certain parts I didn't remember not liking..
The game definitely peaks around the time you [SPOILER - highlight to read]: fight Ryan. The rest of the game is pretty cool, exploring apartments and building the suit, but it definitely feels different. The end fight itself was underwhelming and the escort mission at the end felt tacked on.
That said, there are several places I absolutely loved - Arcadia and Farmers Market, first and foremost. Cohen's section was awesome and meeting up with Tennenbaum was reasonably cool too.
Morridini if you're still mulling it over, definitely play - but be aware that the game (IMO) doesn't really begin to get good until the midportion of Neptune's Bounty [SPOILER - highlight to read]: after you get the camera - probably a good couple hours in.
I started Bioshock 2.. but I'm still getting glitches - on the Steam version this time.
