The Adventures of Kai
Character
Name: Kai Lein
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Appearence: Long brown hair that goes just past his shoulders, a red cape on his back, black sweatshirt and black pants. He wears a red scarf over his mouth so he can not be seen chanting spells.
Equipment: Wooden Staff, spell book
Bio: Kai Lein is 15 years old, and a powerful sorceror. He uses fire magic to fend off his enemies or to blind people around him for a quick escape. He is somewhat nervous around other people.
Volume One: Ruler of Darkness
Prologue
Kai was walking through the forest. He loved the darkness of which the forest held under its deep green leaves. The willow trees added the mysterious feeling to the forest He looked up at the trees and smiled under his scarf covering his mouth. He heard a small sound and he raised his wooden staff in an instant, aiming it to the area of which the sound came from. "Who's there?!" he said from under his scarf. He only heard more rustling from the green rose bush. The flowers had started to bloom, meaning it was almost spring. He had been in the forest for almost a year now. He walked closer to the bush and touched it with his staff and it rustled louder. The sudden rustle startled Kai, making him jump back. "Come out!" he yelled with a deadly tone. Kai walked to the bush and rammed his hand into the bush and yanked out what he grabbed. "...A squirrel..." he muttered to himself as he stared into the eyes of the small rodent. Kai sighed and dropped the squirrel and turned to walk away when all of a sudden he heard a voice "Do not let your eyes deceive you young mage" said an older man.
"Where the hell are you?!" Kai yelled looking up in the trees while he backed up. "Show yourself!"
"I am young master, forgive me." the old man.
Kai followed the sound of the voice to the squirrel. "The hell?"
"Ah, so you know its me" the squirrel said putting its index finger on his chest "But who else.... Grab him!" The next thing Kai knew he was being surrounded by bandits. The bandits weren't that old. They looked as though they were in their mid-twenties. One of the bandits however were old. The old man had gray hair, a very long beard that went down to his knees and a hunch, as if he had been like that for years. That was all Kai could get out of his consumption before the bandits had grabbed him and quickly tied him up. Kai smirked "do you think you can hold me?!" Kai closed his eyes and started to chant.
"Des spiritueux du feu je vous appelle!" he started, but couldn't finish because one of the bandits had gagged him. Kai struggled to get free, but to no prevail. Kai's eyes started to glow as he started to mentally summon his power, but then felt a sharp pain on his head, and then nothing.

Chapter One
Kai awoke in a tent, he was tied to a pole. He sighed because he needed his staff to use his magic. He tried to loosen the ropes, but failed. He looked around so something sharp, but nothing. He did the only thing he could think of and that was yell. He screamed loudly, hoping someone would come in. If he could get someone in that tent, and close enough to him, he could knock that person out and cut the ropes. Eventually a woman came in "Will you stop that racket?!" she yelled as she walked in front of him "You scream anymore and i will cut out your eyes, got it?!" the woman said.
Kai smirked and yelled again. The woman growled and grabbed her knife from its sheath and brought it forward towards Kai's right eye. That is when Kai took his chance. He lifted his entire lower body and grabbed hold of the woman's neck area. This shocked the woman, but before she could react, Kai moved his body back down to the ground as hard as he could, bringing the woman's head with it. He slammed her head down on the dirt floor as hard as he possibly could, knocking her out cold. Kai smiled in self-satisfaction and moved her knife with his feet to his hands. He grabbed the knife and started cutting the ropes quickly. After a few minutes of painful sawing, Kai was finally free from the ropes. He stood up and wiped the blood from his hands and arms. He quietly crept to the tent entrance and peered out. He needed to find his staff. He saw a few bandits and he went back in the tent. "what to do what to do...." he though to himself and he got an idea. He walked to the woman's unconscious body and searched through her clothes for a better weapon than that pitiful knife. He found three smoke grenades and matches. He smiled greatly from what he found. He walked out of the tent stealthily and hid in the shadows of the night. He peered in a tent only to find a bandit making himself a sandwich. Kai smirked and walked in quietly behind the bandit. He lit on of the matches he had found, making a small noise. The noise caught the bandits attention. Kai made sure he was looking into the bandits eyes before manipulating the flame of the match onto the bandit's clothes, catching him on fire. The bandit yelled as he burned. Kai placed the burnt match beside the sandwich to make it look like he did it himself and ran out of the tent before he could be seen. The bandit that was yelling did an excellent job at distracting the guards. He ran from tent to tent trying to find his staff, but no luck. Eventually there was one tent left, the biggest tent of all of them. Kai quietly crept inside the tent and looked around.
"Looking for these?" a strangely familiar voice said from behind Kai. Kai turned and pulled out the matches in one swift motion, only to see the old man from before. The old man must have been the bandit's leader. The old man was holding up Kai's spell book and his staff.
"Give me those or burn old man!" Kai yelled.
"Heh... kids these days... no respect for their elders... kids like you should be punished!" the old man yelled at the end of what he said, drawing a large steel scimitar and charging at Kai. Kai smirked and lit a match, by manipulating the flame, Kai sent the fire directly at the old man. The flame was slashed out of existence by the old mans scimitar. Kai swallowed hard and looked for something to do, while the old man was mere seconds from slashing Kai into nothing. Kai saw it. His staff. He waited for the old man to get close enough and ran directly at him As soon as the old man swung his scimitar, Kai slid under the old man from in between his legs. He dived for his staff and grabbed it. He rolled on the floor for a mere second and jumped up. "Fire storm!" he yelled, twirling his staff in a clockwise motion. The old man stopped and looked at the Staff. The staff then shot out hundreds of flames at the old man, not all of them missing.
"Don't mess with a mage, Old man!" Kai yelled as he walked up to the tired old fool and smacked him upside the head with his staff.
"Yes... you are strong.... just as the prophecy says..." the old man said as he lay on the floor. Kai didn't feel like listening to the old man, so Kai raised the sharpest end of the staff and stabbed it down into the mans skull. "Prophecy?" he asked himself "I guess that is my next quest, learn about the prophecy." Kai walked to the entrant of the tent and picked up his spell book. But was greeted with many of the bandits. They were all kneeling to him.
"You defeated our king, therefor, you are now king of the bandits!" on of the bandits spoke, encouraging a yell of happiness.
"...No" Kai said simply and walked past them and into the meadow.

Kai continued walking without rest for four hours. he stopped when the clouds covered the sun. He looked up and squinted his eyes. "Rain...." he said to himself. He felt the first drop of rain and he smiled as he put his spell book under his cape and it dissapeared. He stabbed his staff into the moist earth and sat down. "Rain... how i love your feel... your depressing ties..." He smiled and heard rustling in the large grass. He looked over and saw a small fox that seemed to be injured. Kai was not usually a person to help animals or anyone or anything for that matter, however this small fox pup seemed baddly injured, as if it were attacked by a hunter or a larger animal. Kai picked the small pup up and placed him in his lap. The small fox almost immediatly fell asleep from the warmth and comfort. It was obviously worn out, maybe from running from its attacker. Kai gently rubbed the small animal, struck with pity for it. It was strange to him, the feeling of wanting to care for another living organism. He sighed and held out his hand. His spell book appeared in his hand and he opened the book. Not only was the book a holder of the dark arts, but also white magic. He flipped it to a cure spelled and put his left hand on the small fox's stomach and started chanting. "puissance de la magie blanche, svp me prêtent votre puissance de sorte que je puisse aider ce petit renard." A white glow appeared on his left hand and the glow went into the fox, healing all of it's wounds. He then turned the page. "Here... now you can communicate with me little one..." he said, sympathy obvious in his voice. this was a non-chanting spell, just a simple concentration. He concentrated deeply and a blue glow from his throat and it moved from him into the the fox's throat. "Now rest..." Kai saiid petting the small animal gently. He looked up into the clouded sky, letting rain fall into his scarf. He took off his scarf, reaveling a felinous face with two blue stripes directly under his eyes. His whiskers twitched lightly. He took of his wizard hat reaveling two large cat like ears. He is a feline. and no one knew it. This was one thing he found weird was he was a Feline, and the small fox was a canine. He pulled a small badana out of his pocket and wrapped it around the small fox. The rain fell into Kai's long hair and his fur. He smiled at the fox and purred slightly before he caught himself. He shook his head "What am i doing?!" he asked himself. He stood up, holding the fox in his arms and picked up his staff and his hat. He put his Wizard's hat on and made the staff dissapear. He cradled the small fox pup in his arms gently and had forgotten about his scarf that was in his pocket. He held the fox close to his chest as he walked on towards town. He smacked himself mentally as he walked with the pup in his arms. The tall grass gently scraping against his cape and pants as he walked. The rain was slowly ceasing. HE looked up and shook his head. Luckily, he had kept the fox dry when the rain hit hard, though it left him soaking wet. As rain dropplets slowly fell off of his whiskers and onto the small fox's face, awakening him. The fox quickly sat up. and tried to bark but what came out were words. "Mother... where is mother?!" the small fox yelled.
"I...I.... I do not know, young one..." Kai said, rubbing the fox's head "May i ask your name?"
The fox was very startled and started shivering. He was very scared of humanoid beings. "I..I'm.. Spike...." he answered.
Kai sighed, "I will not harm you, Spike... i saved you.... why were you covered in blood and injured?"
"Well...." spike started "m..me and my mother.. were walking in the.... feild... when a hunter... and wolves... started chasing us.... i heard... my mother yell at me like i did something wrong... she yelled 'Kepp running, Spike! Do not look Back! Listen to your mother!'... and then there was a loud sound and the silence... the next... thing i knew I wasface.. to face with a large wolf.... i tried to fight it the best I could... but.. i failed.... the wolf had me and then.. i was with you.... I... I.. i want my.. my mother..." he yelled and started crying.
Kai knew the feeling of losing ones mother. He did not wish to have this young fox sad in anyway..
"Spike.... i...im afraid.. your mother is gone.." he said, only making things worse. The young fox cried harder and started digging himself into Kai's arms.
"N..no.. m..m..my mother..c..cant be.... dead!!" he yelled as he cried, tears streaming down his young canine face.

“power of the white magic, please lend your power to me so that I can help this small fox. ” )

The young fox pup, Spike, cried for hours, and Kai did not make him stop. For he had done the exact same thing when his parents were taken from him. The young pup finally stopped and dug himself deeper into Kai’s arms.
“K.. Kai…” Spike started, “…a-are you going… to take care.. Of me?” he asked Kai. Kai sighed and smiled, his sharp teeth shined in the sun light.
“I will do as best as I can Spike…” Kai assured as he rubbed the fox gently down his back. Spike only whimpered a bit more as he curled in Kai’s arms. The sun was already going down, and Kai was very tired. He looked around for a good spot to lay for the night. He smiled as he saw a small cave. He walked towards it and into it. Kai made a fire by snapping his fingertips and gently laid down, Spike still in his arms. Kai sighed as he stared into the flames that he made. He new what Spike was going through, and he felt sorry for the little guy. Kai sat up and laid Spike down and took his shirt off. His white and black fur gleamed in the fire’s light. Kai laid back down and closed his eyes for a rest. Spike however, was not use to sleeping with having someone to lay with. He slowly walked to Kai and laid against his chest. Kai’s fur was warm to Spike, just as his mother’s was. Spike felt like crying more as he thought about his mother. They both eventually fell asleep, as the light of the fire grew dim.
Kai opened his eyes and looked at Spike who was laying on his said against Kai’s chest fur. Kai smiled and gently stroked Spike’s neck. Kai stood up and stretched before sitting back down. He looked at the fire, so warm to him. As if he were a reptilian, he is always cold unless he is in the sun or near a source of heat. He thought he was weird at first, but then learned his fur never grew very long, so he was cold because of the air. The fox however, grew his fur just fine. It must be because Kai is half human, therefore making his body cells more human than his feline side, while Spike is a full fox, making his fur grow just fine. Kai sighed when he put his shirt over Spike. “Why am I even letting this fox stay with me?” he asked himself. Spike lay there, sleeping like a log. Spike’s breaths were easy and smooth. Amazingly not rough and horrid, from a bad dream of some sort about his mother as Kai had for weeks after. Kai laid back down and held spike softly to keep Spike and himself warm. Kai wasn’t tired in the least. He just laid there.
Morning eventually cam. Kai was woke up by Spike, who was running in circles laughing. Kai sat up with a yawn.
“Your awake!” spike yelled happily, still running in circles around Kai.
“What are you doing?” Kai asked as he put his hand on spike to hold him down gently, “Your making me dizzy.”
Spike struggled a bit and groaned “I’m trying to get you awake, just like I woke up my mother….”
Kai shook his head and picked the small fox up “Meaning your hungry… have you started eating solid food, or still on milk?”
“Uh… what is… solid.. Food?” Spike asked him, curious as to what it might be.
“It would be meat, such as deer.” Kai told him, hoping that he could eat meat.
“My mommy fed me from her body…” Spike replied.
“Ok, we have some walking to do…” Kai said as he put his shirt on and stood up. He picked the fox up and walked out of the cave.
“Where are we going, Kai?” the small fox asked as Kai carried him
“To town so I can get you some milk.” He said as he walked.
Spike yawned and stretched in Kai’s arms. He closed his eyes and fell asleep, curled up in Kai’s arms. Kai continued walking through the forest, heading to town. The young feline knowing e was an outcast in a canine area, and a primal target for being attacked, but if he were to even attempt to take care of Spike, he would have to get him something to eat, or drink in this case. He walked through the tall grass and trees for about an hour. He finally saw the town. Though, what he did not know, was it was his home town. He doesn’t know that his child hood friends from the past were there, his family were there as well. Everyone there were just like him, felines. He walked into town holding the small fox, ignoring the eyes upon him. An old man stepped in front of him, looking down at Kai. Kai kept his eyes in front of him, not daring to look up at the large feline man.
“What is your name, boy?” the man asked.
“That is none of your concern old man.” Kai replied and tried to walk past the man. The man growled and smacked Kai with the back of his hand.
“I asked you your name, young man!” the man roared.
Kai’s hat flew off as he fell to the ground, his ears perked up.
“I.. I’m Kai Lein..” Kai said, rubbing his face.
“Your name.. is Kai Lein?!” the man asked, as if he were shocked.
“Yes, what does it matter to you?” Kai asked, getting irritated.
“Kai! It’s me! Your Father!!” the man yelled happier than ever as he grabbed the young feline and embraced him in a tight hug. Kai’s eyes opened wide as he pushed the man away, still holding the small fox.
“Do not say things like that you old fool! My family were burned to death, along with my town!” Kai yelled, angrily.

Kai looked at the man with a mad face, one that showed fear and pain.
“Do not lie to me old man!” he yelled, “My parents are dead, as are my friends!”
“Kai, we were all safe! I brought you to the top of the canyon during the attack, only to make sure you were safe. I fought the beast that attacked us, me and the others.. Yes, lives were lost, but please… its been so long since I’ve seen you. Not to mention your friends… and your girlfriend, she misses you.. You should stop by her house.”
“…I… is… it can’t be… You left me up there!” he yelled “I waited for three days for you!” he looked at his father with sad eyes.
Spike, who had been woke up by the yelled, yawned and stretched “Are we there?” he asked as he looked around. He looked at the bigger feline and yelped. He dug his head into Kai’s arms.
“What’s that thing you are holding, Kai?” his father asked, “Is that.. A fox?”
“Yes….” Kai said, “I am taking care of him… do you have a problem with that?!”
“No… but it talked!” his father exclaimed.
“Its called magic, you old fool!” Kai yelled, and was rewarded with another smack.
“Do not talk to me like that!” his father yelled, “I, Lon Lein, Did not raise a son who talked like that to his father!”
“so…. You call yourself my father… and yet you left me on the canyon… some father you are! Now if you will excuse me, I have to get some food for Spike!” Kai shoved past his father, who was now shocked at what his son had said.
Kai walked past many people who started to follow him. He stopped and turned “What do you people want from me!” he yelled. He then noticed his entire face was showing because his hat had fallen off. He looked at the crowd of people who were following him. “Why.. Are you all following me…?” he asked. And as soon as he did, a female walked in front of the crowd, around Kai’s age. It was his childhood friend, his father called her his girlfriend. She walked to him slowly and stared at him. She gritted her teeth and smacked him hard.
“Why did you leave?!” she yelled, tears welding up in her eyes, “I thought you were my friend! Do you even remember me?!” she smacked him again, but not as hard this time.
“Kai didn’t look at her face “Of course…” he said slowly “You were my best friend, Jessie…”
Jessie looked at him, tears streaming down her fur. “Am I really?” she asked, balling her hands into fists. “Because… you are no friend of mine…” She smacked him again and turned around “Stay away from me, Kai…” she said before she walked off. Kai rubbed his face, still watching her. How could this have happened… he thought he was alone… his family was dead… but, it turns out they were alive.. But left him at the canyon. Now his best friend hates him, and everyone watched it. Kai shook his head and looked at spike “Amazing how people are like that, isn’t it Spike…” he said
Spike looked up and shrugged slightly “I don’t know..” he said “You’re the only other person I’ve ever talked to.”
Kai smiled and rubbed the small fox. He walked into the store… big mistake. He looked up to see three men staring at Kai.
“Well.. Look who it is, boys.” one of them said.
“it’s the runt of the litter!” said the other
“Mike, John, and Alex…” Kai said “Get lost or I will kill you.” he said, raising his hand.
“Well well, looks like he is big and bad.” Mike said stepping forward.0 He pulled a knife out of his pocket and swung it at Kai. Kai stepped back, dodging the knife. “I’m going to kill you first!” Kai yelled and his hand lit fire. Spike had jumped out of his arms and ran and his. John smirked when he saw the small fox. He picked it up by its baby fur and pulled out his knife. He walked out in the open so Kai could see him do what he was about to do.
“Hey, runt. Watch this!” john yelled and stabbed his knife into the small fox.
Kai watched in horror as his only friend was stabbed. Something in Kai snapped. His eyes turned black. He charged at John and pounced on him. Strangling him with his burning hands. Basically the whole town was watching Kai kill John. Alex and Mike were horrified and ran. Kai’s hands squeezed as the fire burned through Johns neck. After five minutes, Kai had killed john, john’s neck was pitch black and burnt. Kai snapped back to normal and looked at Spike. “Please don’t leave me, spike!” Kai said as he picked the small fox up. Spike’s lifeless body just laid in his arms silently. “Please don’t die… I don’t have any reviving spells..” he said sadly, he, himself starting to cry. Spike opened his eyes slowly. “Kai… it hurts…” he said, “it… really.. Hurts….”
Kai put Spike on the ground, relived spike wasn’t dead. He started chanting “puissance de la magic blanche, svp me prêtent votre puissance de sorte que je puisse aider ce petit renard.” it healed the young fox once again.

Jessie walked behind Kai, staring at the dead feline next to him. “K.. Kai… a…are… you ok?” she asked nervously.
“What do you care…” Kai said, standing up, keeping his eyes on the fox. “I am no longer your friend, as you said to me… you shouldn’t worry about me then…” Kai walked to the back and grabbed a carton of milk and a baby’s bottle.
Jessie followed him “I…. I’m sorry Kai, don’t be like that!” she said.
“Be like what… like you were to me…” he walked past her and past the group of people who watched him. His father stepped in front of him, and Jessie ran behind him.
“Kai… what has happened to you?” his father asked “You killed… that man….”
Kai shook his head “He shouldn’t have put his hands on Spike..”
“Kai… if your leaving… at least take Jessie with you…” His father said pointing to the female feline.
“Why should I…?” Kai said rudely.
“Because she would like to come… she likes you, Kai, understand that.”
“I…I do not!” Jessie yelled as her skin under her fur turned a deep red.
“Don’t care. If she says she is no longer my friend, so be it. I lived alone for ten years, I don’t need her.” Kai said and walked past his father.
He was stopped by Jessie taking his arm and pulled back “Please Kai.. Let me come with you… I did not mean to do that… its just been so long….” she said
“I don’t care…. What you did was dumb… smacking me three times in front of the whole town… for not a damned reason!” He pulled his arm away from her. “If you want to follow, I don’t care, but do not expect to much.” He looked at her with his dark red eyes and turned around and started out of town, her right behind him “Kai… what did you do.. When you were gone for the ten years?” Jessie asked.
“I learn the arts of magic. Other than that, I wept thinking that I lost my friends and family. But apparently, you do not care about what the hell I went through when I thought you and everyone else were dead.” Kai walked into the woods with the silent female behind him. He sat down against a tree and picked up the bottle and milk. He filled the bottle with milk and held up Spike. He put the bottle at Spike’s mouth. Spike opened his eyes and slowly started drinking the milk from the bottle.
“I… I thought you ran away from us, Kai…” Jessie said
“No.. I was abandoned by my father and left at the canyon.” he said blankly as he fed the small fox.
“Kai… I went through a lot while you were gone…” Jessie said, “I looked for you for a while, then I began to think that you were dead… and I was told I should give up…”
“So you gave up…” Kai finished for her, “It doesn’t matter anymore…”
“Yes it does! I liked you a lot Kai!” she snapped, “You were my best friend and I thought you had been killed!”
“I don’t think it does….. Anyway.. I have a question… do you know anything about ‘the prophecy’?” he asked her.
“No, I don’t…” she said sadly. “I do know that you have become a heartless jerk.. It seems through time…. You lost the need for relationships and friends… like the only thing you care about is that stupid fox!”
Spike choked a bit when he heard her call him stupid. Kai instantly pulled the bottle from its mouth so he could breath and cough.
“I am not stupid!” Spike yelled, shocking Jessie. Her fur stood up and she jumped back “It talked!!!” she yelled.
“I used a spell for him to communicate.. I found him injured so I healed him…. And your right.. I have no need for pointless things… but… I have grown.. So there are things I need in life… but that is not something I wish to discuss”
“Pervert…” Jessie said to him, sitting back down.
“I said I did not wish to discuss it, and that was not what I was talking about. That means you are the one with the dirty mind, Jessie…”
“Then what do you mean?” she asked
“I am not going to repeat myself…” Kai replied
“Tell me… c’mon Kai!” she yelled
Spike looked up at Kai “I wanna know too!” spike said happily
Kai sighed deeply “It is not something that I need, but it is something that I wish to have. I know that it will never happen.”
“What is it..?” Jessie asked him.
“A family” Kai said simply and turned away from her.
“Really?” Spike asked “I don’t have a family anymore… I consider you family Kai”
Kai sighed and gently pet Spike’s head “Thank you…” he said to Spike
“You.. want.. a family, Kai?” Jessie asked, getting nervous. “Well… who with?”
