Over the past few decades, the overall trend in mean spring and summer temperatures has been upwards. Whether this reflects genuine climate change or is simply part of a broad natural cycle is not yet clear.

Again, this apparent trend in climate change is in the direction of the prediction of the readings, assuming that "the upper portion of Europe will be changed as in the twinkling of an eye." Edgar Cayce also stated that "open waters will appear in the northern portions of Greenland." And for that to happen there must be enough warm water in the North Atlantic Basin to melt the permanent ice pack that currently exists off northernmost Greenland. Interestingly, a recent publication describes a record minimum in the Arctic sea ice cover during 1990, attributing the 1990 situation to being part of a larger scale temperature-anomaly pattern. And some satellite surveys show that a reduction of Arctic sea ice accelerated between 1978 and 1994.

I've been saying for a long time now that every single person should be storing up food and water. Even in countries like America. In fact, Edgar Cayce stated this in one of his readings when he said:

"Anyone who can should buy a farm, and buy it if you don't want to grow hungry in some days to come, for the hardships for America have not yet begun, so far as the supply and demand for foods are concerned."

Edgar Cayce

Ruth Montgomery stated that if a person is not prepared when these changes come about then it will be their own fault for not preparing when they had the opportunity to do so, and that they will suffer the consequences thereof.

New York

Here are some readings that Edgar Cayce gave regarding the state of New York:

Question: "Will there be any physical changes in the Earth's surface in North America? If so, what sections will be affected, and how?"

Answer: "All over the country we will find many physical changes of a minor or greater degree. The greater change, as we will find, in America, will be the North Atlantic Seaboard. Watch New York!"

Edgar Cayce
311-8
April 9th, 1932

"Portions of the now east coast of New York, or New York City itself, will in the main disappear. This will be another generation, though."

Question: "I have for many months felt that I should move away from New York City."

Answer: "This is well, as indicated. There is too much unrest, there will continue to be the character of vibrations that to the body will be disturbing, and eventually those destructive forces there - though these will be in the next generation."

What is there about the North Atlantic seaboard in general, and New York City in particular, that could make them vulnerable to Earth changes? By analyzing old surveying records, a group of Stanford and USGS scientists has recently found evidence suggesting that during the last 100 years stress has been concentrating in the upper crust in western Long Island and just north of New York City. Such stress accumulation, if maintained for several hundred years and then released suddenly, would generate a major Earthquake. A spokesman for the group concluded that "we just don't have any constraints on the timing or size of a future Earthquake."

The Hudson River area does lie at the northern end of a zone of seismic activity and larger Earthquakes have struck there before. There was a shock in 1884 that was probably located at the mouth of the Hudson River and was felt from Maryland to New Hampshire.

The moderator of an ABC-TV program ("Earthquakes The Terrible Truth") that aired in 1994 said that the 1884 shock was estimated to have been magnitude 5 and that such a shock could be expected roughly every 100 years. He said that the fault that generated the 1884 quake cut through Manhattan, Central Park, and beneath Greenwich Village. Columbia University seismologist Dr. Klaus Jacob said that a damaging quake in New York City is inevitable and that the city is not prepared to respond to it.

The Ramapo Fault Zone (RFZ) strikes northeast from Peapack, New Jersey, for about 60 miles into and across the Hudson River Highlands gorge. The RFZ lies adjacent to New York City. In a study involving radiocarbon dating of basal peats underlying tidal marshes, scientists found indications of both the sinking and rotating of crustal blocks within the RFZ in "a complex graben-like manner within the past few thousand years." They also found that the RFZ is an active fault zone with a recurrent interval of from a few hundred to 2,000 years. Indeed, data suggests that the RFZ will sustain a damaging movement within the next few decades.

If a damaging movement were significant enough to involve sinking and rotating of the crustal blocks beneath New York City then there could be a quick fulfillment of Edgar Cayce's prediction that "New York City itself, will in the main disappear."

Another fault, the New York Bight fault lies beneath the ocean to east of New York City and is some 25 miles to it at its closest point. It may extend north beneath Long Island. Past motion on this near vertically dipping fault plane is downward to the west, suggesting that the crust to the west of New York City may someday be subjected to downward motion.

The Raritan embayment is named after Raritan Bay, which lies off the south end of Staten Island, New York. The subsiding Raritan embayment is the site of the largest Earthquake in southern New York...and Earthquakes occur around it from northern New Jersey to southwest Connecticut. During the time of the larger Earthquakes last century Raritan Bay had an unusual subsidence rate.

Thus, the ingredients for the natural destruction and disappearance of a major portion of New York City by Earthquakes and subsidence, respectively, seem to be in place. Here again, we are struck by the ability of "the sleeping prophet" to describe general geophysical conditions well before their discovery by scientists. And we see again that Edgar Cayce's Earth-change readings predict an acceleration in existing geological trends for portions of New York, including New York City.

Connecticut

Edgar Cayce also gave direct reference to the Connecticut area and listed it as a dangerous place to be during the effects of the Pole-Shift:

Question: "Will there be any physical changes in the Earth's surface in North America? If so, what sections will be affected, and how?"

Edgar Cayce: "All over the country we will find many physical changes to a minor or greater degree. The greater change, as we will find, in America, will be the North Atlantic Seaboard. Watch Connecticut, and the like."

As for trends that might affect "Connecticut, and the like," relative changes in level-line data across the Connecticut valley suggest subsidence there. Quake data shows that coastal Connecticut has experienced a number of significant events that have been large enough to cause damage.

Flooding is also a possibility in Connecticut. There have been increasing rain storms and such in that area of the United States which have not been seen for hundreds of years. If these floods continue, it is very possible that they could change the face of Connecticut forever. Many people could lose their homes, their jobs, and even their lives. Edgar Cayce definitely listed Connecticut as one of the dangerous places to be during the effects of the Pole-Shift.

South Carolina

Edgar Cayce also mentioned that South Carolina would get hit hard during the Pole-Shift:

"The southern portions of Carolina (South Carolina) - these will disappear. This will be much sooner."

Edgar Cayce
1152-11
August 13th, 1941

There is bounding, northwest-trending fracture zones near the Charleston seismic Zone in the South Carolina area, along with a gradually subsiding embayment, which could cause the submergence of the "southern portions of Carolina."

And if the mantle movements associated with an oncoming Pole-Shift begin to raise the sea floor in the Atlantic, as per Edgar Cayce's readings indicate, off the U.S. east coast, then one might well expect an acceleration of some of the existing long-term trends in coastal subsidence along the present Atlantic Seaboard.

Another major threat could be the increasing strength of Hurricanes that would hit that area. As the Pole-Shift begins to accelerate, Hurricanes around the World are bound to increase in the amount of damage they do. Also heavy rains could hit the area as well, and if the two were to coincide, then there could be major problems for South Carolina as we approach December 21st, 2012.

Georgia

Edgar Cayce also listed Goergia as a dangerous place to be during the Pole-Shift:

"The southern portions of Georgia - these will disappear."

Edgar Cayce
1152-11
August 13th, 1941

A northwest-trending fault zone beneath the coastal plain sediments of southeast Georgia coincides with the landward projection of the Abaco (also called the Jacksonville) fracture zone. The Southeast Georgia embayment appears to lie over a crustal block dropped between the two major fracture zones. Coastal seismicity is concentrated at the flanks of the Southeast Georgia embayment, which is subsiding at present.

So what needs to be watched especially carefully are the Southeast Georgia Embayments. What I believe will happen to Georgia/Southern Georgia is that it will face roughly many of the exact same problems as Southern/South Carolina.

Nevada

Edgar Cayce said much about the western states of the United States of America including what is going to happen to Nevada:

"If there are the greater activities in the Vesuvius or Pelee, then the southern portions of Nevada - may expect, within the three months following same, an inundation by the Earthquakes."

Edgar Cayce
270-35
January 21, 1936

Just what sensitive spots in the Earth's crust and mantle was Cayce's clairvoyant power revealing in 1936 when he said the above? Geologists of 60 years ago had not yet put together the seismotectonic information for Utah, Nevada, to have made it possible, as some have suggested, for Cayce's mind to simply read the thoughts of geophysicists of that day to come up with his forecast. It was not until 1966, thirty years after Cayce's 1936 reading, that Alan Ryall, et al., published their ground-breaking maps of tectonic flux for the conterminous United States west of longitude 109 Degrees West. "Tectonic flux" is a quantitative, mappable index of seismicity that is defined by a rather complex mathematical expression. Maps of such a flux represent a compromise between methods of illustrating seismic activity that stress numbers of shocks, such as epicenter maps, and methods involving the energy released by earthquakes, which tend to emphasize the largest events.

There are major fault zones in a belt trending southwest from Salt Lake into southern Nevada, and a belt of relatively high tectonic-flux coincides with most of the fault zones. And so, Edgar Cayce's psychic vision of a likely seismotectonic belt within which an inundation of quakes might take place conforms to the results of the Ryall, et al., study. Note, too, that the seismotectonic belt roughly coincides with important structural features like the eastern limit of imbricate thrust sheets, part of the boundary between the northern Basin and Range Province and the Colorado Plateau, and the axis of the Late Cretaceous foreland basin.

The Wasatch fault zone, at the north end of the belt, straddles or lies adjacent to the Brigham City Salt Lake City-Ogden urban corridor that contains more than 1 million people and great building wealth. It is composed of at least 10 segments that have surface traces 9 to 36 miles in length. Each segment has been the source of repeated Earthquakes, of about magnitude 6.5 to 7.5, occurring on the average every several hundred to several thousand years. Potential losses to buildings and life from shaking in future Earthquakes in the Salt Lake City region may reach $1 billion or more, depending on the location of the Earthquake relative to the urban area and the time of the day that the Earthquake occurs. It should be noted, too, that Tooele, Utah, near Salt Lake, is home to America's largest stockpile of chemical weapons.

In Cayce's mention of the "Southern portions of Nevada", at the southern end of the tectonic flux belt of Las Vegas, which has the largest population concentration in the immediate region. The effects of "an inundation by the Earthquakes" on the Las Vegas metropolitan area, nearby Hoover (Boulder) Dam, and the nation's building of the only high-level nuclear waste repository, at Yucca Mountain, would be devastating. The Yucca Mountain project is the U.S. Department of Energy's answer to a national problem. There it is charged with building a geological repository (a large, deep underground mine) for the final disposal of commercial spent nuclear fuel and "high-level" radioactive waste. Current DOE plans call for keeping this waste secure and away from the public and the environment for 10,000 years, the time required for the most long lived of the various radioactive isotopes to decay to safe levels.

Most of the radioactive waste to be stored in the Yucca Mountain repository must be transported there by rail or truck from nuclear-electric power plants across the United States. Yucca Mountain is a small fault-block mountain composed entirely of volcanic rock called tuff. The repository is to be set in the relatively dry, unsaturated zone of the tuff, well above the water table.

This is part of a geohydrological setting that is expected to continue in effect for the required 10,000 year period, because the climate is semiarid and has been so for a long period geologically. But, even if this site were to survive Earthquakes and breakup of the land, the shift in the poles would alter the climate, quite possibly to a more humid one that could cause the water table to rise and compromise the integrity of the repository.

If the land in the western states is "broken up" and if southern Nevada does suffer "an inundation by the earthquakes" as Edgar Cayce said it would near in time to the beginning of the significant Earth changes, then it would seem that the Yucca Mountain repository and the nuclear waste transportation scheme that DOE is developing will be trumped by natural events. This will leave a big problem whose solution may require developing a suitable waste repository in one of the "safety lands" that Edgar Cayce gave readings about.

South America

Some of the worst natural disasters in modern times have occurred in Latin America. Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions have bypassed few countries in Central and South America. And more can be expected. As a few examples, In the Michoacan, Mexico region, 9,500 died in an 8.1 M event in September 1985. Mexico City suffered more than $3 billion in property damage, 30,000 inhabitants were injured, and a small tsuami was generated. In Guatemala, 22,778 died in a 7.9 M Quake in February 1976. In the Managua, Nicaragua, region, 5,000 died from a 6.2 M Quake in which a fault ruptured for over 200 kilometers in December 1972. 20 Years later this area suffered another Quake that generated tsunamis that ran as high as 32 feet in places and caused extensive damage along the Pacific coast.

As for South America, Edgar Cayce's reading 3976-15 predicts that it "shall be shaken from the uppermost portion to the end," that is, from Colombia and Venezuela in the north to the Chile-Argentina tip of the continent in the south.

A potential for significant shaking and damage to property is quite expected, given the long history of pronounced seismicity in western South America.

None of these disasters can compare with what happened a few years later in Peru. In October 1969 Quakes leveled two villages. But the destruction there was but a prelude of horrors to come. Eight months later, on May 31st, 1970, halfway through a quiet Sunday afternoon, the Earth began to tremble in a high mountain valley of north-central Peru. Before it stopped, a mighty Earthquake registering 7.7 on the Richter scale had shaken the Andes, shattering town after town in a long narrow valley known as the Callejon de Huaylas. Some 75,000 people perished in the Quake and in the ice and mud avalanches that it spawned, making it by far the worst natural disaster in the history of the Western Hemisphere. And despite Peru's history of repeated Earthquakes, the 1970 catastrophe took more than double the toll in lives of all the country's previous five centuries of Earthquakes.

In "No Bells to Toll," which brings that extraordinary event in the Peruvian Andes to life, anthropologist Barbara Bode quotes a Peruvian who experienced the calamity:

"This is not the terror felt by someone running from a furious bull, a threatening knife...This is a cosmic terror, an instant danger, the universe caving in and crumbling away. And, meanwhile, the Earth lets out a muffled sound of thunder, in a voice no one knew it had. The dust raised by the houses as they came crashing down settles little by little. And we are left, with all the dead, not knowing how we happen to still be alive."

- Pablo Neruda, Memoirs

It should be noted that South America, the largest of the continents in the Southern Hemisphere, has more active volcanoes than North America.

More Active Sun Means Nasty Solar Storms Ahead

(please log in to view the image)

SPACE.com Staff

SPACE.com Space.com Staff

space.com – Wed Jun 9, 6:00 pm ET

The sun is about to get a lot more active, which could have ill effects on Earth. So to prepare, top sun scientists met Tuesday to discuss the best ways to protect Earth's satellites and other vital systems from the coming solar storms.

Solar storms occur when sunspots on our star erupt and spew out flumes of charged particles that can damage power systems. The sun's activity typically follows an 11-year cycle, and it looks to be coming out of a slump and gearing up for an active period.

"The sun is waking up from a deep slumber, and in the next few years we expect to see much higher levels of solar activity," said Richard Fisher, head of NASA's Heliophysics Division. "At the same time, our technological society has developed an unprecedented sensitivity to solar storms. The intersection of these two issues is what we're getting together to discuss."

Fisher and other experts met at the Space Weather Enterprise Forum, which took place in Washington, D.C., at the National Press Club.

Bad news for gizmos

People of the 21st century rely on high-tech systems for the basics of daily life. But smart power grids, GPS navigation, air travel, financial services and emergency radio communications can all be knocked out by intense solar activity.

A major solar storm could cause twenty times more economic damage than Hurricane Katrina, warned the National Academy of Sciences in a 2008 report, "Severe Space Weather Events—Societal and Economic Impacts." [Photos: Sun storms.]

Luckily, much of the damage can be mitigated if managers know a storm is coming. That's why better understanding of solar weather, and the ability to give advance warning, is especially important.

Putting satellites in 'safe mode' and disconnecting transformers can protect electronics from damaging electrical surges.

"Space weather forecasting is still in its infancy, but we're making rapid progress," said Thomas Bogdan, director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colo.

Eyes on the sun

NASA and NOAA work together to manage a fleet of satellites that monitor the sun and help to predict its changes.

A pair of spacecraft called STEREO (Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory) is stationed on opposite sides of the sun, offering a combined view of 90 percent of the solar surface. In addition, SDO (the Solar Dynamics Observatory), which just launched in February 2010, is able to photograph solar active regions with unprecedented spectral, temporal and spatial resolution. Also, an old satellite called the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE), which launched in 1997, is still chugging along monitoring winds coming off the sun. And there are dozens more dedicated to solar science.

"I believe we're on the threshold of a new era in which space weather can be as influential in our daily lives as ordinary terrestrial weather." Fisher said. "We take this very seriously indeed."
