Ultimate Thanos possessed Thing, and commissioned Reed to build him a Cosmic Cube, which would give Thanos the ability to control/erase the minds of any and all beings he wished.

Reed is trying to finish work on what he calls, a "Cuboid Volitional Lattice"..

Once powered sufficiently, this device can do anything, [in theory]:

In an effort to power this machine, Reed plans to "bottle a Star".

As you can see, he built a device capable of absorbing a Star's energy, from a completely different Universe:
