Why should certain people be excluded from the political process?
Edit: I'm editing someone's papers and it is totally ****ing up my grammar LOL
Read the other thread and you will see why some people do not need to be brought in to the process.

I read them. Why don't you teach these people so they will be able to make educated, informed decisions?

I tried, they don't want to learn. You can't teach everyone. Besides it would be chaos if everyone was involved because they would all have an opinion.

You do not have a degree yet. You are not in position to handle laws.
What method have you used to try?
Everyone has an opinion, informed or not.

It boils down to:
'They don't agree with my point of view, therefore they lack the ability to comprehend.'

dont forget:
...and therefore they should be reduced to second class citizen status
(allowed no voice in the political process)

Which I never said, I said they do not comprehend because they haven't been educated and therefore cannot be involved. There are lawyers who are against the death penalty. But there are those like me who are. And we both get to be involved.

Stalin, Metaxas, Franco, Saddam and Hitler would be so proud.

Thats what law professors are for. And Law is taught in high school as well. But I wouldn't trust someone with only a high school biology class experience to operate on me. Not everyone needs to be involved int he legal process. Their are lawyers with a wide range of political and ideological views to represent the country as a whole in the law making process.
So the same could be said that I wouldn't trust someone that went to a community college to get the law degree over someone that went to Harvard Law School. Just because you got a degree doesn't mean that you know what the hell your doing.

No it would more likely lead to a better decision than a few making judgment for all. quote: (post ) Originally posted by Starhawk

What makes you think that you can do it when others that have been practicing law for years can't? You can't even convince anyone here of your idea much less the logic behind it, this is not a slam but realistically what makes you think that you even have the legal skills or debating skills to get this done when others with much more haven't?

No the fact that by the time I'm done I will have spent 10 years training does.
And I have motivation and many other friends in the same field willing to assist me in bringing it back.
And if you honestly think I have no chance of doing it why are you acting so concerned?

"Twenty Years of Abolition: the Canadian Experience
Contrary to predictions by death penalty supporters, the homicide rate in Canada did not increase after abolition in 1976. In fact, the Canadian murder rate declined slightly the following year (from 2.8 per 100,000 to 2.7). Over the next 20 years the homicide rate fluctuated (between 2.2 and 2.8 per 100,000), but the general trend was clearly downwards. It reached a 30-year low in 1995 (1.98) -- the fourth consecutive year-to-year decrease and a full one-third lower than in the year before abolition. In 1998, the homicide rate dipped below 1.9 per 100,000, the lowest rate since the 1960s.
The overall conviction rate for first-degree murder doubled in the decade following abolition (from under 10% to approximately 20%), suggesting that Canadian juries are more willing to convict for murder now that they are not compelled to make life-and-death decisions.
All of Canada's national political parties formally oppose the reintroduction of the death penalty, with the exception of the Reform Party which supports a binding national referendum on the issue.
A motion to reintroduce capital punishment was debated in the House of Commons in 1987. On June 30, the motion was soundly defeated on a free vote (148-127), despite public opinion polls indicating majority support for the death penalty.
A national poll conducted in June, 1995 found that 69% of Canadians moderately or strongly favoured the return of the death penalty, exactly the same level of support as 20 years ago. However, other surveys suggest that this abstract support is 'a mile wide and an inch deep'. In 1996, a cross-section of 1500 Canadians were asked to name the major concerns and issues facing the country; not one named reinstatement of the death penalty as a priority. (For comparison, a similar sample in the USA would be 15,000 individuals; polls of this size are considered to be accurate within 2.5 percentage points 95% of the time). "
