The Katari
Chapter 1: The mission
“Zeke, Zeke, ZEKE!!!” came the usual morning call from his mother. He rose grumpily from his bed, picked out a set of royal blue robes from inside his massive closet, and threw them on. He walked back to his room, to find it in its usual state: a mess. Clothes were strewn on the floor; scrolls from his bookshelf were all lying on each other; and ink and paper all over his desk. Ignoring the mess, he walked over to his mirror, which looked back at him, revealing a boy with sleek blonde hair, and deep blue eyes. He straightened up his hair, which was all over the place, and walked to the kitchen.
By the stove was the maid, cooking something up that smelled delicious; at the table was his brother, who was exactly the opposite of him with tidy brown hair, and brown eyes. “Sup, Zeke” he said without looking up from the scroll he was reading.
Taking his breakfast, he walked huge yard, with a fountain in the middle of four paths; one of which he knew led to a pool, which was the shape of a crown; another leading to a practice court, with targets for bows, and enchanted dummies; the other leading to a bird house, with thousands of birds and owls for letters and his mom, who absolutely loved them; the final one leading to the city.
He sat down by the fountain, and ate the cinnamon toast and the large glass of orange juice the maid had given him. When he was done he waved his hand at the plate and glass, which obediently flew back to the kitchen.
He whistled, and from what seemed like nowhere there came a purple magic carpet. “Hello Kirby” he said with a smile. “Good morning master Zeke. I wonder where we might be going?” the carpet asked curiously. “Lessons of course” said Zeke. Zeke leaped 5 feet into the air and landed neatly on the carpet. He tapped the middle of it, and a door appeared, showing steps going into a little room inside of the carpet. He walked down to a room with lots of high-tech gadgets, and weapons.
He picked up from a desk a utility belt. He went over to the counter and picked out of a jar a 5 round, gel-like balls, one red, one blue, one brown, one transparent, and one purple, and placed them in a small pouch on his belt. Next, he took out of a long, case, a slender sword. He fitted the blue sword into its sheath. Next, from a case right beside his sword, he took out a dagger, short but pointy, in a black leather sheath, and attached it somewhere in the back of his belt. Then he took a rebreather from a cabinet and put in a long leather strap. Finally, he took out seven similar green balls from a jar and put them in a different pouch, similar to the other. All set, he took from the counter a waterskin, and filled it with water. He was halfway up the stairs when he felt something was missing. He went back, and from a small, hidden safe under his bed, he took out a shining yellow orb, and placed it in the same pouch as the green. Finally, he stepped back out onto the carpet. What he saw was a thin, balding man dressed in linen green robes, with a golden sash to hold it together. His eyes, which were a sky blue, were looking back into Zeke’s royal blue ones.
Zeke walked up to him and said “hello master.”
“Today is an important day, Zeke, today, you get your first assignment” said Sadem (SAA-DUM). Zeke whooped with excitement. “What is it master? Where am I going? What am I doing? Tell me about it!” Zeke exclaimed with excitement. “Not just yet. First, we need to go though today’s lesson, and then I will tell you more about the assignment.”
Without warning, Sadem produced a ball of water and through it at Zeke. Without thinking, Zeke through out his hand, and watched as the water turned to ice. Which he through back at Sadem. The old man, who was not fast enough to move out of the way, merely disappeared. “Find me, Zeke” said a voice inside his head.
He closed his eyes knowing this was a drill. Using his power of magic, he reached out with his mind, searching for a presence. From his hands he produced a ball of energy. Taking notice of something invisible, he through it at what seemed like a fountain. The ball collided with Sadem, who suddenly appeared, throwing him into the fountain.
Zeke, reached down immediately, put his hand on his master’s chest, and said, “fenna.” Sadem sat up immediately.
“Good job, Zeke!” he said enthusiastically, as if he had not just been knocked out. “I think that is good for today” said Sadem. “Read this scroll, and prepare for your mission.” He hastily drew a scroll from his robes and presented to Zeke.
With a murmured “thanks” he bowed and ran over to his carpet Kirby, who was at a nearby carpet rack. He broke the seal on the scroll, and read:
