Very true debbiejo, theres no point in bending over backwards in a relationship...if someone else is willing to share their personal time with you then why would you have to go out of your way to be something you're not
One other reason I've come across is fear of committment...its a big issue these days, fear can bar people from doing a LOTTA things...kinda sad

Yeah, because if someone changes themselves by over extending, later on it will come out anyway who they really are, and ohhhhh is someone not going to be happy.
Fear of commitment is a big issue, you are right. There are many in that boat. That's why honestly is a biggie in my book. I always let it be known up front if I intend to play the field or not. As of now. I'm a field player.
