Killers made my hair stand up...pretty much the only musical highlight.
Oasis sounded more embarrasing with each song.
RHCP (hands down the biggest joke in pop music nearing a decade now) were just a complete carricature of themselves. I seriously wanted to punch Flea in the head as he was just a bit TOO into his funky bass player act.
Can't believe the Monkeys beat out the likes of Kasabian and Lilly Allen (two of the most innovative, creative, and just plain solid acts around).
...and that host got kind of annoying.
Where was Coldplay to give the night some class???

I like Supergrass, but I wouldn't say they were up with the best. I didn't think they were big there, though you seem ahead of the pack as regards UK music.
I've always admired, and even envied the UK music scene. It always seems so fresh, full of actual music fans, and the bands, even if they tank in the US, always thrive in their homeland. As far as Supergrass goes, they've evolved quite a bit over the past decade or so, and of course my exposure to them was as limited MTV. Just seemed like another dirty garage rock band.
It's always been about the UK scene for me. Growing up I've known more about what's happening over the pond than in North America.
Mostly it's because the Canadian music scene was absolute crap, and although the US had good artists, there was also way too much "popp-y" pop music. In the UK, you'd get "Unfinished Sympathy" on top 40 radio!!! Would that fly in North America?...absolutely not. Quite telling of the people's tastes and the artists abilities over here. Yeah that's right...
I'll say this flat out, and true to my style... the best music in the world comes out of the UK...and it pretty much always has.
Granted, even though a lot of stuff has started in the states...the UK seems to always take it and expand it.
There'd be no Beatles, Zeppelin or Stones if their influences and early cover songs didn't first come from south blues USA. The New York Dolls were the chicken to the Sex Pistol's egg, and the Detroit house scene was well dropping the beat while Basement Jaxx were still...well...playing jaxx in their basement.
Having said that, UK artists should take a lot of credit for blowing it up (as well as mixing it up), and pumping out great albums…(apart from also just being plain musically superior). There was nothing to match early synth pop in the states for example...and look at the huge influence and contribution of that today.
And know what? Even when it comes to humour...the superiority is plain as day.

i find it a bit odd that someone can compare SUPERGRASS which are one of the few truly English sounding bands weve had in the past 15 years with a band who i consider to have the American college rock sound nailed
You can strike my entire opinion of Supergrass from the record. I apparently have Supergrass and Superdrag confused, and according to some research, so did most of America.
We're forgettin' to give props to The Chemical Brothers here.
These guys managed to take the feel of quality underground rave/techno tracks and package it into neat little 3:00 min top 40 singles that were accessable for the first time to markets all over the world. That's huge!
They were the first electronica group who had albums that managed to break the North American Top 40 market as far as quality underground techno is concerend...and it all started with Block Rockin Beats...a pivitol release in pop music history.
Before that, there were only techno "songs" that were either considered too dorky by the cool kids (Haddaway) or too weird by the nerdy kids (The Prodigy) .
as much as i rate a fair few of their tracks i prefer the Chems as djs...although i did have the times of my life when i saw them on the Surrender and Dig Your Own Hole tours
ive never rated The Prodigy tho
i always thought they were a bit fake and by the time they got their stuff released and in the shops the scene had moved on leaving their stuff sounding dated
I've always like The Crystal Method a lot more than Chemical Brothers, personally. They debuted about the exact same time in the US, and were in direct competition with each other. Both bands were good for a single or two off of their albums, but ended up just being party music.
(As a sidenote, almost all of the tracks on "Dig Your Own Hole" are more than 5 minutes long. Including "Block Rockin' Beats". )
